So there's like 3 villains in this movie or something? Is this a bad sign? Usually these movies overloading with villains is never a good thing.

Contrary to what the previous movies showed us, I'm pretty sure Spidey's one of the characters who could work with 2 to 3 villains in a movie, as long as there's a clear cut main antagonist. Comic Spider-Man is usually juggling multiple villains at a time anyway.

Plus, Vulture's gonna be the main antagonist of this movie, so he's going to be the primary fighter. Shocker will probably have a fight or two with Spider-Man, but that's it. Everyone else will probably just be more on the antagonistic side, but just side characters at the end of the day.

It's similar to the show. He has multiple villains to take care of, like Juggernaut, Electro, Lizard etc... while the main ones of the show are Doctor Octavius and The Green Goblin.

For the most part it's distracting though there have been some times where it worked very well.
Well, the issue is that most of these characters were created in the early/mid-'60s when nearly every character was white by default. Culture, and pop culture, have evolved since then, and staying 100% accurate to that outdated cultural environment doesn't represent the world we live in now.

There are some characters where their race is key to who they are -- Black Panther, of course. And the imagery of a blonde, blue-eyed Steve Rogers punching out Hitler is pretty important, IMO. -- but there's no reason Mary Jane or the Shocker need to be white. And if they were created in 2016 instead of 1966, they might never have been.

Agreed. It's like Batman Begins... it had R'as al Ghul, Scarecrow, and Zsasz. We might have preferred more attention given to Scarecrow than he got, but overall, that movie succeeded with three Batman villains. Not all of them have to be "top billing", just so long as they know their place and fit well into the overall narrative.

The "too many villains" thing is a myth that we can thank filth like Batman & Robin, Spidey 3, ASM2 and the like for.

To say nothing of comics and animation, there are plenty of great superhero movies with lots of baddies. You already said Begins (and I'd throw Falcone in that list too), but TDK had 3.

Cap: WS had 4. Civil War had a ton (I mean, they were actually heroes, but still antagonists per either POV). Guardians technically had 4.

I'm surprised at how faithful they are to the original costume.

You and me both.

Maybe if we're lucky, we'll finally get a faithful looking Green Goblin costume down the road.

Shocker is the deputy villain? Awesome! I would not have expected a second villain despite tradition form reports. Its also nice to see Shocker get a little respect and hopefully with Marvel in control there will be no worries of that. With Electro in the previous film even if different continuities I am surprised Shocker was selected due to he often confusion over their powers being allegedly similar.

I actually thought the Raimi one was great! The ASM2 one though...

To me, the GG costume from the 2002 film looks like something off of Power Rangers. And don't get me started on Harry's Goblin "costume" in Spider-Man 3.

For years, all I've ever wanted was a close as accurate Green Goblin in the same vein as this at least:

Spoiler:

But yeah, screw the ASM2 take on Green Goblin. I definitely hate that one the most.

It's hard because in the comics it's a rubber mask. To pull that off convincingly in live-action... can it be done?
