Care Bears: Unlock The Magic

Quote:
The Care Bears are returning in the new animated series “Care Bears: Unlock the Magic” from Cloudco Entertainment. Boomerang announced Thursday that it will be bringing back the children’s animated show as part of its subscription streaming service. The series will return to the 2D animated style and will feature adventures outside of Care-a-Lot in the never-before-seen Silver Lining world. The Care Bears most recently appeared on the Netflix series “Care Bears and Cousins,” which used 3D graphics and ran for two seasons.

“We swung for the fences to give the bears the best and most compelling storytelling, animation and broadcaster home,” said Cloudco Entertainment President Sean Gorman. “I am super-proud of the result and thank our own internal team as well as our production partners for their immeasurable hard work and support.”

The show will also introduce a new character, Dibble, who becomes the Care Bears’ pet. The round, pink character will not be able to speak; instead it will communicate using limited words, coos and sounds. It will also travel using its own personal cloud. No premiere date has been set.

For non streaming viewers, Boomerang television network will air select “Care Bears: Unlock the Magic” episodes in the months following the show’s streaming service world premiere.

I've talked about this here a few times already, but I honestly believe that this franchise is way too saccharine and not very enjoyable. I know that some people found Mr. Rogers Neighborhood to be too sugary sweet, but after watching the documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor his series did in fact have very good lessons and meant well. This, however, tries way too hard and doesn't put a lot of effort into its scripts.

The original 1985 Care Bears film wasn't awful, but its 1986 sequel Care Bears The Movie II: A New Generation really was one of the worst films ever made. I didn't even like it when I was in pre-school. I know babies cry, but it was happening every five minutes with its characters. I'd happily watch the scenes in Maleficent where the titular character and Diaval secretly raise Princess Aurora instead of the cubs being raised by their guardians or being babysit by pre-teen humans. The flashback scenes of Splinter taking care of his sons in 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are also more well-done than what I just mentioned. Plus, the songs in Care Bears The Movie II:A New Generation were grating on the level of "I Love You" from Barney. Two of its voice actresses, Cree Summer and Alyson Court, were much better than that movie's screenplay. I stopped watching the original TV series around 1st or 2nd grade.

I vaguely remember watching the original show and I had a few toys.

I got a 3 inch grumpy figure for my birthday a few years ago. I think it was a blind bag. I recently noticed it matches very well next to my 3 inch classic Sonic figure that I happen to stand him by.

Never watched any of the more modern shows. They were preschool or kindergarten material right?

This looks cute though. I’ll check it out on tv. Have no desire to get that streaming service.

I'm lowkey a Care Bears fangirl. Have a lot of nostalgia, was a favorite growing up. With that said, man, while this does look adorable, I probably wouldn't keep it on for anything more than background noise. Don't use the Boomerang service, won't bother for this one show that I'll only half pay attention to. Hard pass unless I find it for free.

Also, I've noticed how rarely there's real redeisgns? Sounds weird but like, the 2012-2018 designs are pretty much the same as the ones from the early 2000's, which in turn are kinda just more polished versions of the 80's designs. Only major departure from that classic look was the 2007 redesign, which, given that the next reboot went back to the classic look, I take it hadn't done so well. I'm not expecting this one to last for long. Which is a shame, because really, it is cute, cuter than the 2007 look IMO. I feel like this says something though. Not sure what. Perhaps how we hate change? Or maybe it's just the conclusion that nobody gives a damn about this franchise anymore, it only appeals to nostalgic adults nowadays. Who knows.
Spoiler:

I realized the other day Care Bears are the perfect franchise to crossover with My Little Pony.

I found this. https://mlpforums.com/topic/112205-m...ars-crossover/

I agree an update might need to re-establish them somewhat into mainstream. Maybe this could do that. It seems to matche the look of FiM already.

Both shows have Magic in their title. The crossover practically writes itself!

Shredder could've done more than blow up the Channel Six building. I don't mean as far as murdering Splinter, but think of the possibilities if censors were not an issue.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

I know right? Looking at the other promo stuff it also looks to have a similar tone to FiM. It’s amazing how perfect they are for a crossover.

Their character designs remind me of the happy little tree friends

I wonder how many taglines they pitched before settling on Unlock the Magic? I'd have called it Care Bears or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Fired a Love Laser out of my Belly.
