Episode 72: Turtlemaniac
Written by: Rowby Goren

Voice Cast:
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Lieutenant Montoya
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo, Clyde
Jennifer Darling: Irma Langinstein
Barry Gordon: Donatello
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Monroe Q. Flem, Vinnie
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Edler

Mistakes:
1. At the end of the episode, Donatello and Raphael pick up a wax copy of Splinter, and Donatello speaks in Leonardo's voice. Also, when everyone laughs, the wax Splinter even laughs.
2. While he's watching the Turtles on a monitor's screen, Flem's mouth doesn't move for half a line. After the Turtles enter the museum, Donatello speaks in Raphael's voice, then the two of them switch positions, but Raphael continues the line.
3. The Turtles recall the "Case of the Two-Headed Biker" when they used a shovel to battle the Sumarion Slug, but these events never happened in a previous episode.
4. Flem seems to know the layout of the Turtles' lair, but if it was that simple, then why couldn't Shredder and Krang ever track it down, considering Krang's more technical skills?
5. At first April is lowered in the vat of hot wax horizontally, but after the commercial break, April is being lowered vertically.
6. Flem freaks out twice about his wax figures melting, but the second time is a repeated clip of the first time his wax figures start to melt.
7. April's fanny pack is yellow in portions of this episode.
8. A part of Shredder's wax figure has different colors from his normal appearance and is missing his gauntlets.
9. Rocksteady's wax figure is missing its right shoulder strap.
10. Splinter's wax figure had a brown nose in his first shot.
11. As the Turtles walk past the replica of their lair, their shells are dark grey instead of olive green.
12. As April heads for Flem's mansion, the portion between the top and middle of the "6" on the News Van is red instead of light blue.
13. Before the commercial break, the positioning of the tied up Turtles against the wall from left to right is Michelangelo-Leonardo-Raphael-Donatello. After the break, the order switches to Leonardo-Raphael-Michelangelo-Donatello. Also, the way the Turtles are shown tied up is incosistent; before the break, it shows Michelangelo and Leonardo tied up on their stomachs, but not Raphael and Donatello. After the break, only the Turtles' feet are shown tied up.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. April signs out of her report with "April O'Neil, with Channel 6 News."
2. After Michelangelo heard about April's idea for pizza, Michelangelo says "Let's make Turtle Tracks, dudes!"
3. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga, dude!" when he pops out of the flodded storm drain on a surfboard.
4. April calls Edler "smogbreath" as he is about to lock her in the birdcage.
5. Flem calls Clyde a mushbrain after he drops some artifacts. After possessing hold of a replica Turtlecom, he calls Clyde a "doat."
6. Michelangelo: "We're all going to be Turtle Waxed!"
7. April calls Flem a scuzzy weasel after complaining that Flem considers news reporters like April a dime a dozen compared to the four Turtles.
8. April signs out of her final report saying "This is April O'Neil for Channel 6 News."

Pizza References:
1. After April's report, she invites the Turtles to join her at Vinnie's Pizza. In response, Michelangelo says "did someone mention pizza at Vinnies?"
2. As the Turtles are shown at Vinnie's, Michelangelo asks Vinnie for a jumbo pizza with everything to go. However, Michelangelo notices that one of the pizza boxes above the counter on the menu is missing.
3. As Michelangelo goes after Clyde before he goes into the sewer system, he asks April to keep an eye on his pizza. In response, April feels that he has better things to do.
4. Michelangelo is shown with Vinnie's Pizza box after returning to the Lair.

Pop Culture References:
1. Another Toys 'R' Us reference as Leonardo saves April: "Rescues 'R' Us."
2. Raphael tells Flem to pop out and say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this is your life, referring to the 1950s documentary-biography radio and TV series.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Raphael: Promise him (Michelangelo) a pizza and he'll follow you anywhere.
2. The Turtles seem to take the laughing gas from Clyde's truck TOO literally, all laughing hard for about 30 seconds. Leonardo says to Michelangelo that this is no time for gags. Towards the end, Michelangelo says "What else could I get you dudes to laugh at my joke?"
3. Donatello: "Why couldn't we use the elevator to get to April's apartment?"
Raphael: "This is more visual."
4. Raphael: "They can always read addresses like this in the movies."
5. Michelangelo: "This Flem sure laughs a lot."
Raphael: "Villains on this show always do."
6. Leonardo: "Let her go, you fiend!"
Raphael: "Another classic line, Leonardo."
7. April: "Getting gas means never having to listen to bad jokes."
8. Leonardo: "Look out, gas!"
Raphael: "Three times in one show."
9. Michelangelo: "Very funny dudes."
Raphael: "Good one Leonardo."

Wacky Inventions:
1. Flem's Waxmation Robots and remote control
2. Flem's Frequency Tracking Device
3. Flem's Special Turtle Knockout Gas
4. Flem's Wax-making vat of hot wax and control panel

Kidnappings:
1. Edler gags and carries away April into a bird cage in Flem's mansion and locks her up.
2. Flem and his minions tie up all four Turtles against the wall in his mansion. At the same time, April is now hung from the ceiling and in line to become a wax figure.

Notables:
1. This episode is animated by Murakami Wolf Dublin.
2. Vinnie is animated differently compared to his normal appearance.
3. Wax statues of Shredder and Mr. Ogg and the Turtlenator from previous episodes are seen, along with wax figures of Bebop, Rocksteady, and Leatherhead. Also, Flem's Wax Robots highly resemble the Turtlenator in design.
4. April's apartment has a different layout compared to its normal appearance since the beginning of Season 3, along with orange-colored walls. April's telephone in her apartment is still green, but is now push button instead of a rotary dial in the last episode. Also, the only part of the apartment block that is shown is the same as the hallway outside.
5. Final appearance of the "sleepy" background music cue at the start of the episode.
6. The Turtleneck jackets in which the Turtles are wearing in this episode are a different color to those worn in the last episode, in which they corresponded to their colored bandanas. Leonardo's is yellow, Donatello's is a light blue, Michelangelo's is red, and Raphael's is purple.
7. April's stock voiced scream is heard as she tries to outrun Flem's guard dogs.

James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady, Oswald
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo, Rondo
Pat Fraley: Krang
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael

Mistakes:
1. Shredder releases some movie snakes, and they slither towards tied up and sitting down Donatello and the college boy, but after the commercial break, both of them are standing up.
2. Rocksteady's eyes are white while Shredder speaks to Krang on his comlink.
3. Shredder's comlink is light blue instead of magenta when the back of it is shown in the theater's projection room.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. April signs out of her first report with "This is April O'Neil, live, for Channel 6 News."
2. Shredder calls Oswald a fool after he makes him spill the Vitalizer.
3. Donatello says "Donatello here" when he answers his Turtlecom.
4. Shredder calls the audience in front of the box office fools prior to the beginning of the Movie Marathon.
5. Shredder says that the blasted turtles are at the cinema while he's talking to Krang on the com-link. Krang calls the Turtles fools in response.
6. While Bebop & Rocksteady are eating popcorn, Shredder wants to enjoy the end of those meddlesome reptiles.
7. While Bebop & Rocksteady fight over a sample of the Vitalizer, Shredder calls them numbskulls.
8. The movie Rondo calls one of the monsters an alien scum.

Pizza References:
1. Michelangelo mentions that the theater is serving free pizza.
2. After the Turtles reach the theater, Raphael wonders where the free pizza is.
3. When the Turtles reach April, Raphael mentions that pizza is their pied piper.

Pop Culture References:
1. Bebop and Rocksteady are watching Cheezy & Freezy, a parody of Tom & Jerry on the TV in Oswald's lab.
2. As Rocksteady attacks Raphael and Leonardo, he says that this rock is going to roll, mentioning the music genre.
3. Michelangelo said to Raphael that Rondo owned a condominium on "Entertainment Tomorrow", a parody of Entertainment Tonight.
4. The monster movie marathon promo ends with "Be there and be scared", a takeoff on the popular 1950s expression "Be there or be square."
5. The movie Rondo appears in front of the street saying "Never fear, Rondo is here", a spoof on Underdog's catchphrase.
6. Another Wrath of Khan reference when the movie Rondo wants to prepare to face the wrath of an enraged Rondo.
7. (See Pizza Reference No. 3) Raphael mentioning that the pizza is their pied piper refers to the Pied Piper of Hamelin.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Raphael: "Isn't movie magic wonderful?"
2. Michelangelo to Rondo: "You got to help us. Us fans are counting on you!"
3. When Krang holds a sample of the Vitalizer in the Technodrome, he thinks Shredder is going to terrorize the city with more cheesy and sleazy cartoons.
4. Raphael: "I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist."
5. Raphael: "I know its a silly question, but why didn't we just take the regular elevator instead?"
Leonardo: "I prefer the element of surprise."
Raphael: "You're right Leonardo, it works every time."

Wacky Inventions:
1. Oswald's Vitalizer, which makes inanimate things come to life.
2. The anti-monster searchlights

Kidnappings:
1. April is briefly gagged by one of the movie's monsters.
2. Shredder kidnaps Donatello and Oswald and ties them up at the city college.

Notables:
1. This episode is animated by Murakami Wolf-Dublin.
2. April's stock voice scream is heard after a movie monster grabs April.
3. Splinter does not appear in this episode, the first occurrence of this series.

Episode 74: Planet of the Turtles
Written by: George Shea

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady, Rupert
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo, Fritz
Pat Fraley: Krang, Hans, Turtle Cab Driver
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop, Turtle Wrestling Announcer, Personal Energy Projector spokesman
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Dalton Dumpsky
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick, Dr. Turtlestein

Mistakes:
1. Just as the Turtle Wrestlers enter the sewers from a portal, Leonardo speaks with Michelangelo's voice.
2. Shredder's boots flashed between light grey and back when he slipped on the glue while battling Splinter.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. April signs in with her Garbagecopter report with "This is April O'Neil for Channel 6 News."
2. Shredder sees the blasted Turtles when he sees them carrying hypnotized April on the Technodrome's main screen.
3. The Turtles say "Let's Turtleize them!" to Hans and Fritz as they drag them through the portal.
4. April says "I'm April O'Neil of Channel 6 News" to two Technodrome workers carrying protective suits.
5. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga!" as he launches his grappling hook at Fritz.
6. Raphael says "Banzai!" as he and Leonardo tackle two Foot Soldiers.

Pizza References:
1. After Michelangelo was disappointed with the wrestling match on TV, he wanted to go out for pizza.
2. Speedy Turtle is a fast food choice that sells a regular pizza and a pizza on a bug.
3. The Turtles are eating pizza while watching April's report at the end of the episode.

Pop Culture References:
1. The title of this episode is a parody of the 1968 movie Planet of the Apes. Donatello also comments that one of the channels he received on the TV in the Lair was from the "Planet of the Cows". In the van, Raphael wanted to tune in to "Planet of the Humans."
2. This episode has a bunch of wrestling-themed references, such as the World Federation of Intergalactic Combat Tag Team Wrestling, a spoof of the former WWF, now the WWE along with its Tag Team moniker, along with technical skills such as being pinned and a reverse double arm back forelock.
3. The method in which the Personal Energy Projector can be ordered is styled like a vintage infomercial, with ordering only via snail mail and a PO Box address. Later, when Rupert introduces the Portable Portal, he also says "batteries not included", a common expression on TV commercials.
4. The Turtles, April, Splinter are seen wearing the Technodrome's protective masks. This is a possible reference to the Stormtroopers of Star Wars.
5. Michelangelo calls Hans a Jolly Green Giant after the mascot of the vegetable company.
6. After April, Vernon, and Dumpsky fell asleep, Michelangelo thought that they were in Dreamland, which was a former amusement park in Coney Island in the early 1900s.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Shredder says to Rupert "Villains don't pay for things."
2. April says to the Turtles after the Garbagecopter crashes by saying "But I thought you guys were supposed to rescue us", given that the Turtles almost always have rescued April up to this point.
3. Shredder: "Oh I love being a villain."
4. After Donatello explains his plan to go to the Planet of the Turtles, Raphael says, "Did you folks at home get that?"
5. Krang: "And then, we'll go into reruns! I guess."
6. Krang: "I'm not sticking around for the climax of this show."

Wacky Inventions:
1. Rupert's Personal Energy Projector (PEP)
2. Rupert's Beauty Overhaul Device (BOD)
3. The Garbagecopter
4. Dumpsky's Converter
5. The Technodrome's protective suits
6. Rupert's Pocket-Sized Portable Portal

Notables:
1. This is the only syndicated episode of Season 4 not animated by Murakami Wolf Dublin, with the Murakami Wolf Swenson logo appearing at the end.
2. Hans and Fitz roles in this episode seem to have a similar function to Bebop and Rocksteady, which do not appear in this episode.
3. One of the cows in the channel that Donatello picked up from another dimension has a ring on a nose, a possible shout out to the bull in the episode "Mutagen Monster."
4. April's stock voiced scream is heard as Hans and Fritz walk through the portal in the sewers.
5. The first time in which Splinter and April were in the Technodrome's main control room.
6. In Turtle Tracks, Shredder instructed all Foot Soldiers to return to the Technodrome using a microphone. In this episode, we finally see Shredder using a microphone alerting the Foot Soldiers. A security alarm also sounds like in the first episode, but with a different pitch.
7. The episode ends with an iris out on Leonardo.

Episode 75: Name That Toon
Written by: Misty Taggart

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo
Jennifer Darling: Irma Langinstein
Pat Fraley: Krang, Burne Thompson, Howie Hardy, Arty (the Junk Store Owner)
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael
Peter Renaday: Splinter

Mistakes:
1. Pay close attention to the countdown on the Dematerializer. Throughout the episode, the countdown is much different and sometimes adds remaining time. When it first appears, the countdown says 12. It is later shown saying 18, goes from 4 to 7 after the first commercial break, back up to 17 when we return back to the Technodrome where it goes as low as 2, then back up to 1879 later on, then quickly drops from 303 to 115 when it shows the Turtles trying to destroy the time bomb.
2. Right as the time bomb is defused, neither Donatello nor Michelangelo's mouths move to their lines.
3. When Krang first feels the effects when Howie plays the Motherboard, the shot of Shredder and him show Krang as smaller than Rocksteady and Bebop who were standing behind them. Also, the old Transport Module tubes which were seen behind them was a normal wall in a previous shot.
4. Krang's android hands are human colored instead of red when Krang first holds the tracking device to track the Motherboard's interference.
5. One of the knobs on the Turtles' TV is missing its cover when Donatello changes the channel in which we first see Krang. In a following shot, the knob is shown back on the TV.
6. Right as bebop throws the Motherboard through the portal, it is missing its black keys.
7. The word antiques on the junk store is incorrectly spelled "antigues."
8. After Michelangelo and Donatello catch the Motherboard, Michelangelo's "M" is missing.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Krang complained that the blasted Turtles used music to sabotage his computers.
2. Donatello answers his Turtlecom saying "Donatello here."
3. Shredder calls the Turtles fools after they thought that the Motherboard had something to do with Krang's threat.
4. Donatello calls Shredder "tin grin" as he tries to stop Shredder from escaping Howie's loft. Shredder says "you fools" as everyone starts to escape.
5. As Shredder causes a door to block the Turtles from escaping, he calls them "repulsive reptiles."
6. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga!" and the other Turtles say "Turtle Power!" as they grapple out of Howie's apartment building.

Pizza References:
1. The pizza billboard on top of Vinnie's Pizzeria is shown when we see a shot of the Channel 6 building twice in this episode.
2. Michelangelo thought that the close call with the Dematerlializer had to do with the last pizza he had.
3. Michelangelo delivers a pizza to Howie's loft after the battle.

Pop Culture References:
1. The episode title is a spoof on the game show Name That Tune.
2. Howie's song "Teenagers in Shells" is based upon the 1958 Dion and the Belmonts song "A Teenager in Love." Another song resembled "Get your Kicks on Route 66."
3. Donatello wants to watch "Adventures of secret agent 000", a possible reference to the 00 Agents of James Bond.
4. Howie's first song he wanted to play was "Big City Blues", possibly in reference to the 1932 film by Mervyn LeRoy.
5. Burne complains that the newsroom is too much like a hootenanny, which commonly referred to a folk-music party which was most common in usage from the 1930s to 1950s.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Irma: "It's playing our song", referring to the melody the Motherboard plays (See Notable no. 3)
2. Shredder: "It's curtains Turtles! I've always wanted to say that."

Wacky Inventions:
1. The Dematerializer
2. The Motherboard
3. Donatello's tracking module
4. Donatello's Portal Activity Detector
5. Krang's tracking device

Notables:
1. This episode is animated by Murakami Wolf-Dublin.
2. First appearance of Howie.
3. The melody in which the Motherboard and Dematerializer play automatically is "Heroes in a Half Shell" from the theme song. The song which Howie broadcasts citywide uses these lyrics in an '80s pop/rock styled song.

Episode 76: Menace Maestro, Please
Written by: Martin Pasko

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo
Jennifer Darling: Irma Langinstein
Pat Fraley: Krang, Howie Hardy, Eric/Erk, Al
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, First Construction Woker
Peter Renaday: Splinter

Mistakes:
1. April appeared to be smiling after Al had fired Howie.
2. The typeface for the words "LAUNCH TEST SEQUENCE ABORTED" on the Technodrome's big screen changes from a blocky font to a sportsboard-style font when we pan out in the next shot and back again.
3. Shredder, Bebop, and Rocksteady use the Transport Module Tubes to travel to Earth in this episode instead of the Dimensional Portal.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. April signs in her newscast in front of the music hall with "This is April O'Neil Channel 6 News."
2. Krang calls Bebop and Rocksteady morons after they believe that the Energy Accumulator is a vacuum cleaner.
3. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga" as the pipe organ rises from the pit.
4. Shredder hopes that those mutant morons had the Energy Accumulator assembled as he was returning to Rocksteady and Bebop.
5. Shredder refers to Rocksteady and Bebop as numbskulls after Rocksteady says "Ain't that it is me, boss?"
6. Bebop and Rocksteady say "Mama" after Erk attacks them.
7. The Turtles say "Go Green Machine!" as they come to rescue April and Irma. After their thanks, the Turtles all say "Turtle Power."

Pizza References:
None in this episode.

Pop Culture References:
1. Eric/Erk's persona as the Phantom of the Moxie is a parody of the character from the novel/musical The Phantom of the Opera. Eric was the actual Phantom's true name.
2. The episode title is a parody of the 1938 swing song "Music, Maestro Please" by Jack Hylton & his Band.
3. April said that the Floxy was reopening as a new wave dance club, which was common throughout the 1980s.
4. The Floxy may have been named based upon the Roxy Theater on Broadway in NYC.
5. The melody in which Howie plays his first song on the pipe organ is based off of Jerry Lewis' 1957 rock and roll classic "Great Balls of Fire."
6. Raphael thought that there were Daddy, Mommy, and Baby Phantoms, in reference to Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
7. At the end of the episode, Raphael says whoever said rock and roll will never die never had to listen to Howie. This refers to the 1959 song "Rock and Roll is Here to Stay" by Danny and the Juniors.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Krang to Shredder: "At the rate you're going, you'll tune in to some silly cartoon show."
2. Shredder: "The Turtles? They're always in my way!"
Krang: "It is their show you know."

Wacky Inventions:
1. The Energy Accumulator
2. The Pipe Organ Spaceship
3. Donatello's Improved Tracking Module

Kidnappings:
Rocksteady and Bebop tie up April and Irma as ordered by Shredder.

Notables:
1. This episode is animated by Murakami Wolf-Dublin.
2. Final appearance of Howie.
3. An urban legend states than the actual episode 76 was a cancelled episode titled "Shredder in Love." However, many sources state it was just a skip in the production numbering, and given the continuity with the previous episode, is generally accepted for this to be the actual episode number 76, and this topic will list episode numbers based on the proper order.
4. A few clips from the previous episode, "Name That Toon", are shown as the Turtles and Howie explain how they got the chips from Shredder.

Mistakes:
1. When the Turtles see the police taking Rocksteady and Bebop away, Raphael speaks in Donatello's voice.
2. Krang says that he needs a power vacuum to free the Technodrome from the lava bed and mentions the volcano's eruption, but the volcano hadn't erupted yet like it did in this episode "The Dimension X Story."
3. After Raphael asks "What about Shredder?" to Leonardo as they approach the bridge, Leonardo speaks in Donatello's voice.
4. While Michelangelo is swinging onto the bridge, Michelangelo's nunchucks are visible in some shots in his shell, but in others, they are missing.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. April begins and ends her report on Gadgetman with "This is April O'Neil, with Channel 6's Where are They Now."
2. Shredder calls Rocksteady and Bebop numbskulls after watching April's report.
3. As the Turtles enter the power plant they all say TURTLE, then only Donatello says "power" as they encounter Shredder and some Foot Soldiers. This is repeated when they enter the second power plant later in the episode.
4. Michelangelo refers to Shredder as Shredhead in the power plant.
5. Shredder is upset that the cursed Turtles escape the power plant after hearing the news report.
6. Krang says "Oh no" and Bebop says "Mama!" as the energy is rewired into the Technodrome and shuts off its power.

Pizza References:
1. The Turtles are each holding several pieces of pizza like they are playing poker.
2. At the end, Michelangelo tells Gadgetman that he has a far out idea for a pizza dough tosser, and that we can't fight crime with a pizza.

Pop Culture References:
1. This episode is one huge Inspector Gadget reference, including his Egg beater helicopter and van.
2. Another Underdog reference: "Never fear, Gadgetman in here!"
3. Gadgetman makes a Superman reference when he says "This looks like a job for Gadgetman!"
4. Michelangelo says that candy is mondo dandy, in reference to the Candy is Dandy poem by Ogden Nash.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Michelangelo: We'll don't have a cow, man.
Raphael: Wrong show.
2. Shredder: "Why do I think this is where I come in?"
3. Gadgetman: "Taster the bitterness of defeat!"
Rocksteady: No big deal, we taste that all the time. (Bebop and Rocksteady both laugh acting like a laugh track.)
4. Raphael: "So are you Shredder? Let somebody else handle the snappy comebacks, Leonardo."
5. After April explains to Donatello how she unplugged the generator, Raphael says "What do you expect? It's a cartoon."
6. All Turtles: "TURTLE..."
Donatello: "Power."
Raphael: "Didn;t we do this already?"
7. Leonardo: "They got away again!"
Raphael: "After 100 episodes, you expected something different?"
8. Gadgetman; "The Meanage Newtant Injured Myrtles... no the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I'm sorry, I always have trouble with that."

Wacky Inventions:
1. Gadgetman's Egg Beater Helicopter
2. Gadgetman's Pursuit Boots
3. Krang's Power Vacuum Amplifiers
4. Gadgetman's Van
5. Gadgetman's Plunger Rope
6. Shredder's Turtle Destruction Device
7. The Rewired Relay

Kidnappings:
1. Gadgetman ties up a man during his flashback scene.
2. Gadgetman, Bebop, and Rocksteady kidnapped a few civilians and are found near Shredder's command center.
3. Gadgetman and some Foot Soldiers tie up the Turtles to the power plant's generator.

Notables:
1. This episode is animated by Murakami Wolf-Dublin.
2. Irma does not appear in this episode, although Jennifer Darling still voices a character.
3. Krang's bubble walker is used when Shredder contacted him on his comlink while setting up the energy drainer.
4. Gadgetman must be of very old age since he wasn't suspicious as to why somebody claiming to represent a superhero is wearing a villainous costume. He also still watches on a black and white TV.
5. The Turtles wear their winter outfits in this episode.
6. The Technodrome briefly moves in this episode, the only time it ever does this entire season.

Episode 78: Back to the Egg
Written by: Dennis Marks

Voice Cast:

Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo
Pat Fraley: Krang, Maitre'd
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Louie
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael
Unknown Voice Actor: Captain Kroolik, Grillox, Uncle Bob

Mistake:
The Channel 6 building has the "6" shown as yellow instead of its normal red in this episode.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Captain Kroolik calls Shredder a clumsy idiot after he noticed that his Serum only worked on two of the pizzas.
2. Shrunken Leonardo call Raphael and Donatello meanies.
3. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga" after he and Leonardo pull away on the Cheapskate.
4. Donatello answers his Turtlecom when April contacts him saying "Donatello here."
5. Tiny Leonardo and Michelangelo say "Tiny Turtle Power" after defeating Captain Kroolik.
6. As April gets tied up by Gorillox, she says "Let go of me you big ape!"
7. April calls Captain Kroolik a despicable heartless monster after she is tied up.
8. Shredder says that a Turtlecom keeps him in contact with those slimy reptiles.
9. Michelangelo says "Holy Guacamole" after he returns to his normal size.
10. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga" after he lands on the studio's floor.

Pizza References:
1. Michelangelo finds a flyer for Posh Pizza, that includes a special introductory offer of four pizzas for the price of one.
2. Shortly afterwards, Michelangelo suggest the Turtles to watch "The Turtles that scarped pizza."
3. The Turtles arrive in posh pizza, which unlike a typical pizzeria is a fine dining establishment.
4. The four pizzas are visible behind the Posh Pizza building when Shredder allows Kroolik to spray the Serum on the pizzas.
5. After the Turtles taste their pizzas, Michelangelo and Leonardo shrink in size thanks to the Serum's formula. Leonardo complains that he can't reach the pizza, and says "I want my pizza" like a four-year old. The shrunken Michelangelo then fights with Leonardo, and causes the slice to fly across the room and onto the Maitre'd's back, and start a food fight.
6. As Leonardo and Michelangelo get ready to cross the busy street full of traffic, three "Pizza For You" trucks showing five pizzas on them are visible.
7. Little Leonardo and Michelangelo are eating pizza in the kitchen while Donatello explains the Serum. Little Michelangelo says that the pizza is yummy but doesn't even remember how to make pizza.
8. (See Fourth Wall No. 3) In an alley, Raphael throws some pieces of rotten pizza. The search ends with Donatello finding Michelangelo's teeth marks on the slice of pizza he tasted at Posh Pizza and Raphael finding Leonardo's teeth marks.
9. After discovering the pizza that shrunk Leonardo and Michelangelo, Raphael jokes about stopping for more pizza.
10. Donatello explains to April on the Turtlecom that Shredder slipped some Serum on the pizzas.
11. Uncle Bob thinks that Leonardo is Italian, but responds by saying that he likes pizza.
12. Donatello instructs Raphael to bake two pizzas in the microwave after creating his antidote.
13. Donatello throws the two antidote-covered pizzas to Tiny Michelangelo and Leonardo, but Michelangelo feels tired of eating pizza, and Leonardo is not pleased with the mushroom topping. Raphael tells them to quite griping and eat the pizza, while Donatello tells them to finish the pizza and the Tiny Turtles will get ice cream. They agree and eat the pizzas, causing them to return to their normal state.

Pop Culture References:
1. Preschool-aged Leonardo and Michelangelo chant the nursery rhyme "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe."
2. As Donatello and Raphael take off their trench coats, Donatello says "Easier said than done fella", possibly referring to the 1963 pop hit by The Essex.
3. Leonardo and Michelangelo are seen drawing coloring books in the living room.
4. One of the objects on April's TV/Computer that Leonardo is playing with looks like Pac-Man.
5. Uncle Bob's Costume Kiddie Cartoon Show features kids in the audience dressed as Bugs Bunny, a football player, a pirate, a ghost, a witch, and a princess.
6. Uncle Bob tells Shredder, Kroolik, and Grillox that they're taping Star Trek in studio 4B.
7. Michelangelo sings "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" as he spins around Kroolik in front of the stage.
8. Donatello says "Run April, Run" while she's still tied up, a possible reference to the 1975 David Geddes song "Run Joey Run."
9. The episode title is in reference to the 1979 Wings album of the same name.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Krang: "Stop whining Shredder! The show must go on."
2. Raphael reminds the other Turtles to leave the Maitre'd a tip, but instead of referring to the money added to the substotal, tells them to not eat crackers in bed.
3. Raphael: "Anybody who thinks that Ninja Turtles is all fun and games should see this episode."

Wacky Inventions:
1. Krang's age-reversing Serum
2. Donatello's age-reducing Antidote

Kidnappings:
1. Captain Kroolik slams a garbage can completely covering the shrunken Leonardo and Michelangelo.
2. Grillox ties up April in front of the Uncle Bob Show's stage.

Notables:
1. This episode is animated by Murakami Wolf-Dublin and is the final syndicated episode of Season 4, unless if you consider "Turtles and the Hare" as a Season 4 episode as the DVD set does unlike most other sources. This is also the final usage of the original opening sequence until "Turtles and the Hare."
2. In the scene where Krang explains the serum, Shredder's movements and expressions suggest that he is laughing, but it is not accompanied with any sound.
3. Raphael is shown holding only one pizza before he and Donatello enter the Channel 6 studio before switching back to holding two as they enter it.
4. Despite the appearance of Krang and Shredder, Bebop or Rocksteady do not appear in this episode. Captain Kroolik sort of takes on a similar role to Baxter from the early episodes.
5. The Turtles' TV in their Lair looks more modern than normal in this episode with a more rectangular screen and more buttons.
6. First instance in which Shredder and Krang walk outside of the Technodrome onto Dimension X's asteroid.
7. Michelangelo's drawing of himself as a five year old is properly spelled "Michelangelo."
8. Michelangelo's nunchucks are never seen, even on his shell in this episode.

Episode 79: Son of Return of the Fly II
Written by: David Wise

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo
Jennifer Darling: Irma Langinstein
Pat Fraley: Krang, Burne Thompson, Baxter Stockman, Computer Salesman
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Herman J. Mellish
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick
Unknown Voice Actor: Z

Mistakes:
1. When the debris from the clock tower's gears fell over Shredder, Baxter, Bebop, and Rocksteady, the sheath and dagger handle switched colors.
2. When Donatello unveils Baxter's footprint on a piece of plaster in the Lair, he first does it in the Turtles' kitchen but after the second commercial break, he does it in the bedroom.
3. Raphael speaks that the gadget might have sank in Leonardo's voice while at a junction near the end of the sewer system. He also says "I don't think so" in Leonardo's voice in the same scene.
4. How could the Turtles survive a fall after being sprung up from the clock tower without even noticing a slight pain?

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. When Baxter first sees the Turtles, he refers to them as "stupid, greasy."
2. Shredder referred to Baxter as a pipsqueak fly when defending his stance with regards to who should defeat the Turtles.

Pizza Reference:
Vinnie's Pizza's billboard next to Channel 6 is visible twice in this episode.

Pop Culture References:
1. The clock tower has the same bell pitch as Big Ben's.
2. Raphael says "Do You Hear What I Hear?", a Christmas song when he hears what turns out to be Vernon's shaver.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Baxter: "Not funny, not funny!"
Raphael: "Nobody likes puns anymore."
2. Before Shredder breaks down a wall at the clock tower, Raphael tells Baxter that Shredder won't show up. After Shredder, Bebop, and Rocksteady bust down the wall, Raphael asks Baxter to sue him.
3. Raphael: "Since when did we become the Teenage Mutant Ninja Boy Ninnies?"

Wacky Inventions:
1. The Solid Energy Generator
2. Channel 6's advanced computer network, including a card reader-device.
3. Channel 6's secret door
4. Melish's Auto-destruct device

Kidnappings:
1. Baxter ties up all four Turtles via the Solid Energy Generator's energy ropes and holds them hostage them in a clock tower.
2. April, Irma, Vernon, and Burne are held motionless to the ceiling by Z in the hallway in the Channel 6 building.

Notables:
1. This is the first episode on the DVD set that was produced for CBS, and the first with the new opening sequence and no title card. The Group W Productions logo is silent after the MWS logo, and will remain that way for about half of the CBS episodes of this season. CBS episodes are also approximately 90 seconds longer than syndicated episodes at around 23 1/2 minutes in length, including the opening and closing credits. However, this was not the first episode that aired on CBS Saturday morning (The Dimension X Story).
2. The first appearance of Baxter's Alien Computer Z outside of his ship seen in "Bye, Bye Fly" and also the first time he is given a face.
3. The Rat King and Leatherhead are mentioned in this episode by Raphael.
4. The World Trade Center appears in this episode.
5. The T.V. Vision store has a sign that advertises a sale for widescreen TVs, which were very rare in 1990.
6. Bebop's eyes are briefly shown after the Turtles escape the clock tower.
7. Shredder's stock-voiced "Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh" is heard as he is bound by Z.
8. Vernon is shown wearing a white undershirt at the end of the episode.

Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Anchorman
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick, Pinky McFingers

Mistakes:
1. Barney Stockman seems to know about Baxter's fly transformation, but ever since Baxter became a fly, he's been where he would have no contact with anyone on Earth.
2. The first scene of Pinky at the House of Ha-Ha was frozen.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Vernon says that Raphael is making a total fool of himself.

3. In reply, Mr. Bigelow calls her a nosy reporter.

Pop Culture References:
1. Donatello wants to watch "Lifestyles of the Brilliant and Scholarly," a nod to "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous."
2. Michelangelo is seen reading a TV Guide.
3. One of Pinky's goons asks Joey to "Make me Laugh", which was on a couple occasions a TV game show.
4. A portrait of Leonardo's Mona Lisa is shown during Raphael's spell under the Gag-a-Magnifier.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Donatello tells Raphael that he gets his daily quota of bad jokes just by hanging around him.
2. Raphael says that he could be such a great stand-up comic if he wasn't so busy protecting the world from evil.
3. Raphael: "I've heard of a captive audience but never a captive performer."
4. Raphael: "I can't believe this is happening! This is too bizarre, even for a cartoon." (These lines also comprise a portion of the opening sequence of Rob Paulsen's podcasts.)
5. Every joke Raphael and the other comedians make while under the Gag-a-Magnifier's control is subject to this.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Barney's Gag-a-Magnifier

3. Burne's Insect Repellent
4. Barney's Gagmasks
5. The Laughometer

Kidnappings:

2. After Raphael frees himself, he ties up Pinky and his two goons, though it wouldn't be long until they free themselves.
3. Pinky and his minions rekidnap Raphael with a net on top of him inside Barney Stockman's lab.

Notables:
1. First appearance of Pinky McFingers.
2. Although Shredder does not appear in this episode, James Avery still voices a few minor characters in this episode. For the most part, the rest of this season will alternate between episodes featuring Shredder and another featuring a specific Turtle.
3. April pronounces Raphael as both "rah-fay-ell" and "rah-fie-ell" in this episode.
4. Michelangelo is seen holding and spinning his nunchucks as they arrive at Pinky's hideout with Leonardo and Donatello.
5. Barney Stockman's character design is the same as his brother Baxter except that his hair is red instead of blonde.
6. First episode with a special focus on Raphael.

Mistakes:
1. Rocksteady speaks with Bebop's voice when Zach gets away with the Anxietron Ray.
2. The sign on City Bank was misspelled "CTIY".
3. When Leonardo takes out his kantana to give to Zach, the sword sheath on his belt disappeared in the next shot.
4. When Raphael says "Well, that worked like a charm," Leonardo is shown gaining Donatello's mask.
5. On the side of one the Channel 6 News Vans in the building's parking lot while April in another van talks to Vernon, the logo is completely red instead of a red "6" on a white background and red border, rendering the "6" indistinct.
6. The "6" on both the side an back of April's news van as Gorgonzolla approaches her is partially indistinct.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Shredder calls Bebop and Rocksteady idiots and peabrain pinheads when he contacts them on his comlink.
2. As the Turtles jump into City Hall's elevator, Michelangelo says "Cowabunga."
3. Zach says "Turtle Power" as he tries to flee Rocksteady and Bebop with the Anxietron.
4. Michelangelo says Cowabunga as he and Zach slide down a tree branch to try and stop Rocksteady and Bebop.
5. Shredder calls Bebop and Rocksteady inculcate idiots right after he steps out of the portal.

Pizza References:
None in this episode.

Pop Culture References:
1. "Gorgonzilla" is a parody of the movie Godzilla.
2. At City Hall, Bebop mentions that every day's a holiday except for Sunday, possibly referring to the 1937 film.
3. The title of this episode is in reference to the 1940 film Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. April: "How come you guys always have to wait until the last minute to rescue me?"

Barry Gordon: Donatello
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Pat Musick: Mona Lisa
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Channel 6 Announcer
Thom Pinto: MacDonald Crump, Captain Filch
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick
Unkown Voice Actor: Blonde Woman with blue costume

Mistakes:
1. While April is delivering Captain Filch's ransom report, the background is of the city skyline during the day, but the party takes place out to sea at night. It is also shown as daytime when Raphael says "we better get moving before it slithers its way back on board."
2. When Raphael surfaces through the sewer cover near Crump's yacht, he speaks in Leonardo's voice.
3. Raphael's "R" is missing when he tells Mona that she isn't a grotesque mutant.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. April calls Vernon a wimp as she grabs the camera from him.
2. April calls two of Filch's monsters overgrown seaweeds as she is being carried off by them.
3. Michelangelo says his stock-voiced Cowabunga as he slides down the Turtle Blimp.
4. Michelangelo says Cowabunga as he swings and knocks down seven of Filch's monsters.

Pizza References:
1. When everybody returns to the Lair, Mona presents pizzas to everyone, thanks to Michelangelo's happiness.
2. The episode opens with a shot of Pick-a-Peck-o-Pizza, with a space-age design. The pizzas are very small. Raphael comments that MacDonald Crump owns the chintziest chain of pizza parlors in the world. Michelangelo then says that he would stick with Vinnie's, but three Turtles aren't happy enough that they won more mini pizzas from Pick-a-Peck-o-Pizza. Raphael's ticket shows a pepperoni pizza on the top of the ticket.
3. During April's report, Macdonald Crump says that his promotion at Pick-a-Peck-o-Pizza made the cruise possible.
4. As the yacht pulls away, Mr. Crump tells guest aboard to do his pizza restaurant's twist. However, Vernon says that all that pizza talk makes him nauseous.
5. MacDonald Crump says that he would sell shares of stock of his pizza chain just so Captain Filch could free him.
6. MacDonald Crump offers the Turtles as Vice Presidents of his pizza chain after they defeat Captain Filch.

Pop Culture References:
1. MacDonald Crump is based off of tycoon Donald Trump.
2. "Pick-a-Peck-o-Pizza" was modeled after the alliteration Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers.
3. One of the people in costume boarding Crump's yacht resembles Batman, and two others have a Ninja Turtle costume with Donatello's and Michelangelo's colors.
4. Mr. Crump's pizza twist is inspired after the 1960 Chubby Checker song.
5. Mona says in the bridge to Raphael that they will be trading one-liners with Davy Jones if the yacht doesn't change course.
6. Raphael knocks off one of Filch's monsters with a shuffleboard stick and treats it like a shuffleboard puck.
7. Raphael makes a Long John Silver reference when he swings to Captain Filch that he hasn't wrecked Long John Turtle.
8. Another Godzilla reference as Michelangelo is watching "Bugzilla" on the Lair's TV.
9. Aboard the bridge, Raphael says "mattahari" to Mona, which was a dancer convicted of espionage during World War I, and included a 1931 film starring Greta Garbo.
10. Captain Filch refers to "The Seven Seas", which are basically the seven largest bodies of water on Earth, though its meaning varies now and in a historical sense.
11. When Raphael says "Man to Mutant", this may have possibly referred to Man to Man, a 1922 movie.
12. April mentions about walking the plank, which is a form of torture practiced by rogue seamen.
13. When Michelangelo says "Brave little turtle", that may be a nod to the 1980 Thomas M. Disch novel The Brave Little Toaster.
14. As Raphael prepares to leave Mr. Crump for the Turtle Blimp, he says "Easy Come, Easy Go," possibly referring to the Elvis Presley song and movie of the same name.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Donatello: "Okay Raphael, the coast is clear. I finally get to say that."
2. Raphael: "Have we met?"
Mona: "Yes, such a kidder."
3. Raphael: "I thought I was supposed to have the clever remarks."
4. Raphael: "Now I think she's finally catching on."
5. Raphael: "I feel a flashback coming on. You see, I told you so."
6. Mona Lisa: "I always wanted to hear one of the real Turtles say a line like that."

Wacky Inventions:
1. Captain Filch's Forcefield Generator
2. Captain Filch Submarine's automatic catwalk

Kidnappings:
1. Mona Lisa ties up two officers in the yacht's bridge.
2. About 15 people including MacDonald Crump are tied up and held hostage by Captain Filch and his monsters.
3. April is bound by two of Filch's monsters and has her mouth covered after her news report.
4. Raphael is tied up near the front of the yacht.

Notables:
1. First usage of the short, 30-second 2nd intro introduced with 'Son of Return of the Fly II." This version had a tendency to be used for non-Shredder episodes because during CBS's one hour block of TMNT on Saturday mornings, the full intro had already been played for the first episode that normally features Shredder, and this was the second episode of the block. There are also no spoken parts (such as "Hey, get a grip") used as well. The lyrics for this short version are:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
They're the world's must fearsome fighting team!
They are Heroes in a Halfshell and they're green!
When the evil Shredder attacks, these Turtle boys don't cut no slack!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Heroes in Half Shell, Turtle Power!

2. The dialogue that Raphael tells Mona Lisa that he's one of the Ninja Turtles is part of the introductory sequence of Rob Paulsen's Talking Toons podcasts.
3. Michelangelo is holding is nunchucks when he lands aboard Crump's yacht.

Pat Fraley: Krang, Slash
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop, Raphael Impersonator
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Donald J. Lofty
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Fenton Q. Hackenbrush

Mistakes:
1. A part of the Raphael impersonator's costume has a nose which turns a flesh color and not green.
2. Raphael is shown with Michelangelo's colors when Leonard and Raphael grapple with Slash.
3. When Donatelo says "What are they so miffled about?" just before the mob chases the Turtles, Raphael's pants are missing.

3. Donatello asks April to meet the Turtles at the Flying Pizza Inn when he contacts her from a phone booth.
4. April is shown inside Flying Pizza Inn, where a chef is putting a pizza in the oven and another pizza is on the counter next to him. We then go outside and see a shot of the sign for the pizzeria.
5. A moment later, Slash goes inside Flying Pizza and eats a total of six pizzas on the counter while standing next to April.
6. April tells the Turtles after Slash gets away that he even liked pizza.
7. A pizza box falls on Slash's spaceship and Michelangelo says that April said that he dug pizza. Michelangelo then picks up the pizza box, says "pizza time, dude", and Slash says "give me that pizza." Slash then says "I want that pizza", then Michelangelo allows him to open it, only to reveal a few leftover crumbs.

Pop Culture References:
1. Donald J. Lofty, like MacDonald Crump from the last episode, is a spoof of Donald J. Trump. Interestingly, he says "You are fired!" to Fenton at the end of the episode many years before it became Trump's signature catchphrase from the reality series The Apprentice.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:

1. First appearances of Slash and Donald J. Lofty.

3. Final appearance of Krang's background music cue, used right after the first commercial break.
4. The Turtle Impersonators play a similar role to the Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang in the episode "Return of the Shredder."
5. Florida is mentioned in this episode.
6. It is revealed that the Flying Pizza is the same pizzeria first shown in the episode "Beneath the Streets", where we can see the Rex Movie Theater visible, though it is no longer playing the Kung Fu movie it was still playing in the episode "The Big Blow Out."
7. April's stock voiced scream is heard after she gets in the Channel 6 Newsvan and Slash bangs on the van.
8. The Chrysler Building is shown in this episode.
9. It is revealed that the wall in which the Technodrome's portal screen is attached to adjoins the exterior when Slash escapes.

Barry Gordon: Donatello, Fingers
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil

Mistakes:
1. As Vernon drives off to escape the loud music, the top half of the "6" is fully red and indistinct.

3. April reports from the US Mint, but there is no actual mint in NYC.

5. The Turtles say "Turtle Power" after Leonardo returns to normal.
6. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga" as he fires his grappling hook at G Clef's sound system.

Pizza References:

Notables:

3. April's stock voiced scream is heard immediately after the first commercial break.
4. The exact same animation is recycled when the Turtles are riding their blimp above buildings, specifically when the blimp is too far away to see the word "TURTLES." The first usage is as the Turtles are checking in on Leonardo at the beach, the second is right before we are introduced to the Soundproof Helmets.
5. First episode with a special focus on Leonardo.

Mistakes:
1. Donatello was with the other Turtles in battle with Rocksteady and Bebop in the plane, but after he, the other Turtles, Irma, and Vernon had fallen from the plane, was later seen riding the Turtle Blimp. No new inventions in this episode.

Kidnappings:
1. The Rat King kidnaps Irma and Vernon with his black rope (See mistake No. 5)

2. Shredder speaks to Bebop and Rocksteady with his Comlink instead of watching them on the Technodrome's portal screen.
3. The original tension theme is used again before the first commercial break, and will continue to be used throughout the rest of this season.

5. Donatello then cooks a pizza in which the Turtles eat in the kitchen.

3. No lava was seen around the Technodrome's tracks in this episode.
4. After Lotus breaks one of Leonardo's swords, another sword is shown on his belt after the other Turtles pick him up, though when the Turtles retreat into the record warehouse, only one of Leonardo's swords is visible.

10. Donatello's mouth does not move when he says "Uh Oh" while standing in a box of records in the warehouse.

4. The city transitions into a medieval Japanese city as Chakahahi uses his magic. Several Japanese cultural touchstones are featured, including mackerel, pagodas, and Mount Fuji.
5. Another AT&T reference when the Turtles end up in a telephone pole after the city returns back to normal when Raphael says "want to reach out and touch someone?"

1. Final appearance of Donald J. Lofty.
2. Ray in this episode is sometimes confused with Ray Fillet, a Mutanimal from the Archie Comics' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures (TMNTA) series that is an ally of the Turtles. In fact, Ray Filley was originally intended to be what ended up being Ray in this episode, but creator Ryan Brown and TMNTA writer Stephen Murphy did not want to see this character as a villain.
3. April calls Ray "Fishface" when she asks her to release her, which is going to be a new mutant villain in the 2012 Nickelodeon animated series.
4. This is the only CBS episode from this season that ran during the second half hour and did not feature a Turtle as the feature character.
5. After Leonardo finished talking to April on his Turtlecom, a clip from the episode "Raphael Knocks 'Em Dead" was played, featuring Michelangelo and Donatello walking through the sewers in that episode. This footage was recycled in this episode when Leonardo says "Let's fan out and search for her!" when they were searching for April in the sewers right before another segment of footage from that previous episode showing the water flowing on the sewer floor was shown.
6. Shredder, Bebop, Rocksteady, and Leatherhead are mentioned in this episode.
7. The prefix poly- is used for name calling against Dr. Polidorius in this episode by the Turtles, including Polyunsaturated, Polynesia, and Polyhedron.
8. The credits are slightly modified in this episode and is the first episode since Season 1 that does not include the Group W Productions logo after the MWS logo.

Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick, J. Gordon Hungerdunger, Hungerdunger's Butler

Mistakes:
1. Leonardo is wearing Donatello's purple colors when he cut the rug on the wall to capture Hunderdunger's butlers.
2. The "6" on the Channel 6 building is yellow instead of red in this episode.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Shredder refers to Bebop and Rocksteady as idiots after he comes through the portal. After he bumps into them, he calls them morons. After he describes the Scanner, he calls them atom brain airheads. He then refers to them as morons after the two mutants escape.
2. When Hungerdunger asks to Shredder who's on the Turtle Blimp, Shredder responds by saying the "accursed Turtles."
3. Right before Shredder and his henchmen could escape through the portal with the diamond, the Turtles arrive saying "Go Green Machine!"
4. During the battle for the diamond, Shredder calls Raphael a wretched turtle.

Pizza References:
None in this episode.

Pop Culture References:
1. The Turtles are dressed in navy blue jackets with white pants and sailor hats when they are topside at the start of this episode. This resembles the uniform of the Navy.
2. Shredder mentions Fort Knox where the largest reserve of gold in the US is held.
3. Another Underdog parody as Vernon says "Have no fear, Newsman is here," and Rhinoman says "Rhinoman is here."
4. As Newsman, Vernon says that he could do the Locomotion, a pop hit by Little Eva and Kylie Minogue in a single bond.
5. Raphael makes another King Kong reference when referring to the diamond like an engagement ring for him.
6. Two statues in front of Hungerdunger's mansion firing a laser at the Turtle Glider are carved like Cupid.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. In the living room of the Lair, Raphael warns the other Turtles that next week the show may be called "The Adventures of Bebop and Rocksteady."
2. As Rhinoman and Might Hog climb into Hungerdunger's airplane, Shredder says that he hates being wrong.
3. Raphael says that you'll become a zombie if you work in television for too long.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Krang's Calcinator Heat Ray
2. Rhinoman and Warthog's Jet Packs
3. Shredder's Police Broadcast Scanner
4. Hungerdunger's Zombie Serum
5. The Zombie Serum Antidote

Kidnapping:
The dark haired burglar is tied up by Bebop and Rocksteady.

Notable:
Final appearance of the dark haired burglar who first appeared in "New York's Shiniest". The burglar has a lighter skin tone in this episode.

Dan Gilvezan: Brick Bradley/Bugman
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Robber #1
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Dr. Dome
Unknown Voice Actor: Electrozapper

Mistakes:
1. When Donatello and Raphael save April from the fire at the power station, Donatello's bo magically disappears when it lies on the ground.
2. While the Turtles are practicing and Michelangelo is blind-folded, he's wearing Donatello's purple colors and the "D" on the ninja belt.
3. When Leonardo asks where Michelangelo is, his mouth doesn't move.
4. When we get a shot of the Turtlevan with Michelangelo and Bradley inside, the word "TURTLES" is missing on the front bumper.
5. The central portion of the Channel 6 logo on the side of the Newsvan is blue instead of red and white in its first shot in front of the power plant.
6. April says that this is the first time she has gone flying with a real fly, but that had already happened in "Return of the Fly" when Baxter Stockman grabbed her and flies off with her.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. The second robber driving the truck full of loot calls Brick Bradley an idiot.
2. Michelangelo says "Cowabugga" when hearing about Bugman's origin.
3. Michelangelo says Bugman Power and Turtle Power together at last after accepting Brick Bradley's request to join him as heroes.
4. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga" as the Turtlevan launches out of the garage.
5. Raphael says that the electricity in the Lair is not acting as weirdly lately as the Cowabunga kid is, referring to Michelangelo.
6. Raphael says "as Michelangelo would say, Cowabunga!" as he, Donatello, and Leonardo pull away from the sewers on the Turtle Jetskis.
7. After Michelangelo is freed from an electron tube, Electrozapper calls Michelangelo an overgrown reject from a pet shop.
8. Electrozapper calls Michelangelo a repugnant reptile during his battle with him in the power plant.
9. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga" right before Electrozapper retreats from the power plant up an elevator.

Pizza References:
1. Michelangelo asks to Bradley "Do Turtles like pizza?" right before both put their seatbelts on in the Turtle Van.
2. A pizza is seen on the table in front of the couch in the Lair when Donatello reads an issue of the Bugman comic.

Pop Culture References:
1. Dr. Dome's name is a spoof of the Marvel Comics villain Doctor Doom.
2. The Leestanite substance, which is Bugman's weakness, is named after Marvel author Stan Lee. Bugman's origin story and powers were inspired by Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk, both created by Lee. Electrozapper was likely based off of the Spider-Man villain Electro.
3. This episode's plot somewhat resembles The Real Ghostbusters episode "Captain Steel Saves the Day."
4. April first calls Brick Bradley "The Incredible Hunk", a reference to The Incredible Hulk.
5. After April learns that the comic book-style heroes names' are Electrozapper and Bugman, she comments if she stumbled into a comic book convention.
6. When Electrozapper first attacks at April, she says "Take Five!", which is a 1959 jazz song by the Dave Brubeck Quartet.
7. Raphael says "Yes Virginia, there is a Bugman" during the final battle with Electrozapper, a parody of the expression "Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus."
8. Electrozapper tells Bugman "You don't mean a thing if it ain't got that sting," a reference to the 1931 Duke Ellington song "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing".
9. When Michelangelo saves Bugman in the sewer, he says to him "A turtle's got to do what a turtle's got to do," a break-in on the John Wayne quote "A Man's Gotta Do What a Man's Gotta Do" from the 1953 movie Hondo.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. As the other Turtles turn the light off in the Ninja Practice room of the lair, Michelangelo says "Very funny. Turn the lights out on a dude wearing a blindfold."
2. When Michelangelo asks if Bugman's powers during his origin story contained floating like a butterfly and stinging liked a bee, his response was that some other guy already did that.
3. Michelangelo and Brick Bradley say that they are together because "you asked for it."
4. Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael laugh very hard for about ten seconds after they read Michelangelo's note that he's gone off to fight Electrozapper with Bugman, and Raphael admits that its his funny joke he's ever made.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Leestanite
2. Electron tubes

Kidnappings:
1. Bugman wraps up and captures Electrozapper during his first battle with him. However, Electrozapper fights back and kidnaps Bradley and Michelangelo in electron tubes!
2. April is paralyzed and caught in a ring of fire after Electrozapper activates the electron tubes.

Notables:
1. First appearance of Brick Bradley/Bugman.
2. Final appearance of the Turtle Jetskis.
3. After the MWS logo, the Group W logo reappears with its standard short version, consisting of a synthesized melody of three ascending notes repeating several times followed by a horn as the W fills to a brownish color. Also, the logo begins with the W appearing sideways as laser lights fill its outline.
4. The Family Home Entertainment paintbrush logo from the VHS release appears on the DVD release.

Jennifer Darling: Irma Langinstein, Buffy Shellhammer
Pat Fraley: Krang, Buffy's Father
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael
Peter Renaday: Splinter

Mistakes:
1. Before the first commercial break as Buffy's weight collapses a sewer pipe as she falls, the order the Turtles appear horizontally from left to right is Leonardo-Michelangelo-Donatello-Raphael. After the break, the order switches to Leonardo-Donatello-Raphael-Michelangelo.
2. Leonardo is seen with Donatello's bo as he talks to Buffy at April's apartment.
3. Raphael is colored like Donatello when he says "how come the odds became lousy all of a sudden" after a bunch of Foot Soldiers encroach on the Turtles.
4. When Michelangelo delivers two pizzas at the end of the episode, they are first shown looking more like pies, then look more like pizza in the closing shot of them on the table.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. April signs off of her report with "April O'Neil, happy hour news."
2. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga" as he grabs Buffy right before Bebop and Rocksteady could use the Shrinking Ray on her.
3. As the Turtles jump to save Buffy in the sewers, Raphael says "Banzai!"
4. Donatello refers to Bebop and Rocksteady as dimwits after the Turtles/Buffy land after the big drop in the sewers.
5. Buffy calls Rocksteady a sleazoid after he grabs her.
6. After Shredder contacts Rocksteady and Bebop on the Comlink, he calls them lamebrains.
7. As Bebop and Rocksteady invade April's apartment, the Turtles say "Go Green Machine!"

Pizza Reference:
Michelangelo delivers two pizzas to the table at the end of the episode.

Pop Culture References:
1. Buffy first thought that Michelangelo was a Martian.
2. The episode title is a take off on the 1936 Shirley Temple film Poor Little Rich Girl.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. When Raphael talks to Buffy in the park, he says "How come we couldn't get stuck with one of those icky cutsy sweet kids that they have in all those other cartoon shows?"
2. As Donatello's bo breaks the popcorn machine and cause some popcorn mix to fall on Bebop and Rocksteady, Bebop says "That's what I call a tasty fight!"

Wacky Inventions:
1. Shredder's Shrinking Ray
2. Shredder's 17 Tracking Devices
3. The carousel in the park has a switch that allows it to float up into the air.
4. The Technodrome's Brainalyzer. This is similar to the Brainwave Detector in the episode The Old Switcheroo but is not the same device.

Kidnappings:
1. Rocksteady and Bebop capture Buffy after the Turtles fail to stop them at April's apartment. They then tie her up into the Brainalyzer.
2. After Buffy escapes from the Brainalyzer, Shredder shrinks her using the Shrinking Ray and imprisons her in a miniature prison.

Notables:
1. The Turtles are seen wearing their winter apparel in this episode, which is rather odd since based on the tree foliage in West Park, it is presumably late spring, summer, or early fall.
2. Michelangelo is shown hold his nunchucks when he leaps over a brick wall in front of Bebop and Rocksteady at the Shellhammer's estate. He is also shown carrying a pair when the Turtles say "Go Green Machine" at April's apartment.
3. Final appearance of the Techno-Rover.
4. The Group W logo as it first appeared on Michelangelo Meets Bugman is used in this episode.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:

6. Krang's volcanic detonator explosives

Kidnappings:
Rocksteady and Bebop capture April, Irma, and the Neutrinos inside the Plast-o-rama dome and drive them off inside the volcano next to the Technodrome.

Notables:
1. Michelangelo and Raphael are successful in blowing up the volcano and trapping the Technodrome in molten lava, but it is never explained how it erupted in the syndicated episodes of this season.
2. The first time Irma and Vernon visit the Technodrome.
3. As original recordings circulate, this was the actual first episode that aired on CBS Saturday Morning on September 8, 1990, along with Donatello's Degree afterwards.
