What are the TMNT's favorite Sports Teams?
I got into a huge debate with a buddy of mine at a bar last night over the topic of what Sports teams the four Turtles would root for.
It is obvious that coming from NYC they would probably root for New York clubs. But there are quite a lot of teams to choose from... Two Football teams, Two Hockey teams, two basketball teams, two baseball teams. ect. To make this more complicated is the fact that the Borough of NYC that the TMNT live in - Manhattan has a very polarizing sports spectrum. With no team really dominating the area over another... (outside of the Knicks.) So my real question is, Are they Jets/Mets or Giants/Yankees? I am aware that international TMNT fans might not have any knowledge or interest in American sports.

Guess
I guess:
*American football = no ideas. *Baseball = no ideas. *Basketball = New York Knicks (at least in the 2010's films) *Ice hockey = New York Rangers (New York Islanders are from Long Island, but maybe the Mirage Turtles prefer the New York Islanders because they dominated the NHL during the early-1980's) *Soccer = New York City FC (2010's versions) I think it's more interresting which sports clubs Casey Jones prefer... |

I've always imagined them as living in The Bronx/Upper Manhattan. So: Rangers, Knicks, Yankees, Jets. (The first 3 having to do with stadium proximity, but with football having no geographical divisions in NYC, they chose The Jets because they're green lol.)
I like to imagine that part of Raph's friendship with Casey is based around them arguing over sports. Since he's a Brooklyn boy, he roots for the Islanders, Nets, Mets. They do bond over the Jets, however. I remember at least one Tales issue where Don wore a Red Sox hat. Maybe he spent more time watching TV in Northampton since he had less stuff to tinker with and started following Boston. Last edited by ToTheNines; 05-26-2017 at 03:40 AM. |

I like to think OT Raph liked the Mets, as he seemed somewhat familiar with Shea Stadium in the first season.

I feel like Raph would be the only passionate sports nut. I imagine everyone else as passive/casual fans. |

Mikey's also been known to hero worship. I could see him being more into his select few favorite players rather than a die-hard fan of any one team.

Gamera of course. But on his father's side it's A'tuin. If we're talking about Splinter's mom, it's Mr's Brisby.
Yeah, I don't understand what "His grandmother" means here. Tang Shen? |

ROFL! Gamera indeed!! No no. Brisby was a mouse. Splinter's mom would have been one of the rats from NIMH. Maybe Nicodemus was his dad? And now I suddenly have the urge to write Splinter's origin as one of the NIMH rats or their descendants.....

New York Cosmos
I try to imagine the Utroms of TCRI in disguises during the 1970's going to watch Brazilian player Pelé playing soccer for New York Cosmos.
To be more serious, how about Splinter watching more sumo wrestling and table tennis (with some rivalry between Japan and the People's Republic of China)? In some versions, Hamato Yoshi may have been in Japan to watch the 1972 Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo. Last edited by Original TMNT Cartoon Fan; 05-27-2017 at 03:01 AM. |
