Comcast is apparently planning an all cash bid to stop Disney from acquiring Fox.

The Murdochs picked Disney for a reason despite having a higher bid from Comcast.

Yeah. Disney will own Fox. Don't know why Comcast wants Fox. They already own Universal Pictures anyways.

Why do you think Disney wants Fox?

Translation: very minor annoyance in the news today for Disney in the middle of their already signed and secured deal to acquire Fox that is only awaiting a government thumbs up that it's wholly expected to receive soon enough.

Disney is considering letting Comcast have Sky Plc and keeping the rest of FOX's assets.

"Outbid"? There is no outbidding. The time for bidding ended a year ago, Fox publicly accepted Disney's offer and they're both just waiting on government approval. We don't even know if Fox can or will entertain additional offers from anybody and after spending 2 years in government review (by the time it's done next summer), I'm not sure any party is keen to repeat the process and spend another 2 years doing the same.

Comcast already outbid Disney. Fox wanted the all stock deal from Disney for a number of reasons.

True, but a lot of these articles are acting like there is still a bidding war going on, a year after Fox accepted Disney's offer. There's not.

That's not true. Shareholders from both sides still have to approve the Disney deal this summer and any new offer from Comcast would still be viable and could negate the Disney offer. Fox would have to pay Disney over $1 billion if they backed out.

Technically it could happen but these sites are acting like a war is going to break out for Fox because Comcast is increasing their bid. That's not going to happen.

I must have missed where the shareholders weren't already on board. Is there an article about this anywhere?

It's in the original press release detailing the transaction:

Quote:
The Boards of Directors of Disney and 21st Century Fox have approved the transaction, which is subject to shareholder approval by 21st Century Fox and Disney shareholders, clearance under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act, a number of other non-United States merger and other regulatory reviews, and other customary closing conditions.

Disney is lining up financing in case Twenty-First Century Fox's board demands cash, sources told CNBC.

Disney is prepared to offer significant cash if needed, the sources said. The two are in agreement on a $52.4 billion bid for Disney to buy Fox's movie studio and other assets. But Disney is competing with a potential bid by Comcast, the parent of CNBC.

Comcast is expected to make a bid if a federal judge rules in favor of AT&T in a trial over its merger with Time Warner. Its offer is expected to top Disney's and be in all cash. Disney is preparing to counteract in the event Fox's board decides it wants cash as part of Disney's deal, which currently is all stock.

Disney is looking at whether it will add cash on top of its existing bid or simply change the composition of the bid to include cash.

Last week, Comcast said it was in "advanced stages of preparing" a superior all-cash offer for the Fox assets. But Disney's all-stock offer has been viewed more favorably because the assets could be spun off tax-free.

So many of Fox's properties are dying or dead too:

X-files = pretty much going to end again
Alien franchise = dead and buried
Predator = has one new movie coming
Simpsons = It's on Season 30 and hasn't been good for a decade and a half
Family Guy = Is probably going to end eventually
Married with Children = ended, they'd have to reboot it
