I don't disagree with Cinemablend here.

They are not wrong about the 2007 movie. Come on guys, pay attention to the threads here... the 1990 movie is talked about way more than the 2007 one. Even Turtles Forever gets more discussion!!! So for them to say it was forgotten by the fanbase is not thaaaat big of a stretch (and fanbase aside it was certainly forgotten about everyone else :p).

The 2007 movie isn't very good. The turtles looked pretty good. Some of the fights were good. Otherwise it's a total wash. Story is crap. Villains are the very definition of forgettable and generic. And Splinter looked dumb as hell. Those are just my initial thoughts I could go on!

And you can't ignore that the designs have been very controversial. Every forum I go on that has a thread on the film... it's nonstop trashing on how the 2014 movie turtles look. I'd say bad impressions outweigh good at least 2 to 1.

Meanwhile... other examples of 2014 reboots/redesigns... such as Godzilla? Getting pretty good reception. So it's not just "internet hates everything" syndrome.

I'm not convinced it will bomb... but I'm not predicting a big success.

Why not?? I guess that's true if you're referring to the original cartoon only, but almost all other interpretations of the TMNT would fall under the 'action' genre. I loved the original cartoon as a kid, but I don't care to see that characterization of the TMNT anymore and I don't see why any old school fans (who mainly consist of 25-35 year-olds) would.

it depends what you are defining as action...when i say "In your face action" i mean explosions destruction and loud booms, not martial arts

i just dont feel bay fits the martial arts style action

i mean don't get me wrong ill still go see it, hopefully opening night

You might be right, but I don't think that would be a problem when there are so many fight choreography teams available in Hollywood, nowadays. Look at the current 2012 TV series, after all. Also, I kinda find it hard to imagine that in 2014, Bay and his team would completely overlook incorporating martial arts style action in a TMNT movie.

That's not what I meant to say. And it has nothing to do with old cartoon. Though scenes where Technodrome rampages through the city would have made a good foundation for the Bay-style directorship.

Bay likes to do BIG things. BIG explosions, BIG punches, BIG shootouts, e.t.c.
It could fit some Turtle villains, but not Turtle themselves. As I see it, they are martial artists, not Hulks, not Transformers. They are about precision and efficiency, rather than BIG BOOM and PWANCH!!.
What we seemingly will have in the new movie, leaning to the other of the spectrum and I don't like it.

The constantly-rebooted show is never exactly a breakout hit with TV audiences.
Oh no a franchise that's been around for 25+ years had 2 reboots.

Also really, none of the shows ever been a hit? lol

I think perhaps a lot of people are wanting to see the comics characterization of the TMNT on film, something that's never really been done. The original movie was a decent blend of comics and cartoon, but with Hollywood's "er mah gerd, everything gritty reboot" a lot of people were hopeful for a more true-to-comics take.

I doubt this film will bomb, though I do think the negative press it's been getting so far will hurt it when it comes out.

I actually unliked CinemaBlend on Facebook a little over a week ago because I got tired of all the garbage they post. This is no different. I think this film is going to have a weak performance, but no way will it do as badly as they're predicting.

that's exactly how I feel. I think micheal bay has his niche and its big action movies with cool cars, military hardware, gunplay, epic destruction and hot chicks. I can see why you would look at that guy for something like transformers where the cool cars and military vehicles turn into giant robots who have shootouts with each other but it doesn't seem to make him a fit for what should at its core be a martial arts movie about a band of brothers

that's slightly what I was hoping for. personally I didn't want or expect them to go full on mirage but I was hoping for something that matched the tone of 2k3 at least

Completely subjective (gutter) Internet “journalism” at its best. Also, a lot of it is just plain wrong. I’m not saying TMNT will be a big hit, but it may be a moderate one. Either way, I honestly cannot see a scenario were it will outright flop. It could underwhelm, for sure, but not bomb spectacularly. That’s not happening.

I have a feeling it's going to be one of those movies like Pacific Rim...dumb but well loved across younger audiences.

CinemaBlend is less about journalism and more about driving traffic to their site. I just can't take them seriously.

As far as the idea of "in-your-face" action, if you look to the sci-fi aspects of the Turtles, versus the earlier ninja-esque stories, the Turtles are loaded with visual appeal, action and explosions. I mean, if this version leans more towards the sci-fi aspects of the Turtles, shadowy/ninja elements will be fewer and far between, especially if we enter into Triceraton territory, which totally needs to happen.

and thats what frustrates me...out the gate, BEFORE this movie even comes out, sites like this, are perpetuating this cycle of negative press, all in an effort to generate hits. and the thing is...they are generally misinformed, and in turn are misinforming others. at least here, we fans, have the chance to speak about the good and the bad, do our best to back things ups. but the vast majority of traffic to these forums are fans to begin with. negative press is gonna kill this movie before it ever has a chance. if this movie bombs let it be because it actually sucks, but not because some idiot reporters decided to drive traffic to their sites by bashing on films that are popular to bash on.

Well, in Bay's defense (which I don't understand with this movie, since he's not the one directing it) in TF2, the forest fight between Optimus and the other Decepticons was mostly a hand to hand with swords being used at that moment, and it was a kick ass fight. In IMAX, it was effing AWESOME, so I do think he is more than capable in shooting a good fighting scene.

But still I would have preferred Matthew Vaughn instead, because he can shoot action scenes, create an intense atmosphere, and knows how to direct teenagers to act like teenagers. But alas, we got what we got, so maybe next time.
