Just going through my 360 achievements this afternoon (some 400+ games) and seeing so much amazing stuff from this generation that I loved. Stuff like Beautiful Katamari, Binary Domain, Sleeping Dogs, Mark of the Ninja, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. The list kind of goes on and on.

What an incredible generation of games.

GTA V is the game of the generation. Not just because of the missions, but because of all those tiny details you would miss if you don't go around simply exploring the city and countryside. Its the best open world game this gen.

Its fitting that GTA V came out right before the new consoles, it had a fitting "the big final game" for this gen.

I was surprised by their choice.

Zelda skyward sword would be my pick. Like what a previous poster said, it really used the full potential of the Wii, and was really the final send off to the console.

The padding at the end of the game killed it for me. I was really into it until that point.

Well, gang. The year is almost over. I didn't wanna make a separate thread for Game of the Year, so let's discuss here.

Super Mario 3D world is great. A game that was kind of better than I was expecting was Tomb Raider. Really looking forward to the next gen version. I played a toooon of the new DMC, which reminds that Revengeance was also this year which was ALSO good. Dead Space 3 was a ton of fun with my bud. Bioshock, man. Xillia! All those 3DS games! Aaaargh. Ton of stuff. I'll have to come back later with a decision.

What were you guys' favorites?

Lego Marvel. Great open world, so many characters all done so well, great puns, a whole ton of references, great VAs.

Before you say anything the ONLY games I played this year were Lego Marvel, Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins, and Teenage Mutant Ninja **** Game by Activision. (the Nick one, not OotS)
But if 5 min of play counts Arkham Origins would tie for my GOTY.

Did some research and pulled out my top 10 games of the year. Note that I'm not including Wind Waker HD, nor have I played A Link Between Worlds, which may have made the list.

10. Puppeteer
9. Dead Space 3
8. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
7. Shin Megami Tensei IV
6. Fire Emblem Awakening
5. Pokemon X/Y
4. Pikmin 3
3. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
2. Super Mario 3D World
1. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Holy sh*t! I didn't realize just how much Nintendo killed it for me this year. The 3DS took nearly half my list and stuff like Project X Zone and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon just missed out. Bioshock Infinite was just barely edged out by Puppeteer and Dead Space 3, which are more a tie for 9th than anything. I think DS3 was deeply deeply flawed and a step back for the series in so many ways, but I had so much fun playing both it and the DLC with my buddy Cure that I felt it had to make my list. The top 6 I think are the most solid lock I've had in many years as I absolutely adored all of them without question. Ni No Kuni really came out of nowhere to become my absolute favourite game of the year. SM3DW fills me with some much joy, but at the end of the day it kind of follows a very familiar pattern. I also enjoyed a bunch of the launch X1 games a lot, like Ryse, DR3 (which I'm still working on) and Killer Instinct, but they couldn't knock anything off of such an incredibly strong list.

Best game I played in 2013 that wasn't actually released in 2013 - Nier

Nier is f*cking insane and there's no amount of explaining that game that real gets through just how weird and oddly affecting the story/characters are. It's incredible without actually being a fantastically designed game.

Good list, homie, and thanks for the shout out.

I think my game of the year is Tales of Xillia. I rocked that game and loved it. Runners up would be Rayman, DMC, and Mario.
