Seems to indicate the whole damn film might be cancelled at this point.

What was the correct GIF? Oh yes. This one.

Feel bad for Maisie. From what I gather she died when she heard she got the part... and right after Sophie got the Apocalypse part, who was equally ecstatic.

Shesus. They should have seen which way the wind was blowing. Just wait a couple of years and then Marvel/Disney could have casted them any which way... now they're uncastable in the MCU because they're in the "old" thing. Maybe as second rate parts in, like, Guardians 3 or something. Now.

Hot Fuzz is the GIF gift that keeps on giving.

Yeah, this late in the CBM game, I feel like most actors and actresses should know which franchises are "good" and which are "bad"... unless you as an actor have a particular affinity for a character (say you loved Cyclops as a kid), why would you want to be cast in a Fox-Men movie when you know the odds are 50-50 of success? 50-50 at BEST?

Or that it's part of a franchise that is about to get acquired by another studio with 99.9% odds that it will get hard rebooted.

Yep. It's not that hard to do the homework. Writing's been on the wall for a few years now, getting clearer every day.

... beyond the morons that still light a candle that Hugh Jackman will be reprising the role of Wolverine. It's everywhere.

Tell me that's not still a thing!

What's next, do they think Tobey will be replace Tom in MCU Spidey 3?

Neither are we, Maisie. Neither are we.

So I guess the original release for this movie was April 13, 2018?

I went to see last summer's Jurassic World sequel with my family, and they absolutely hated the New Mutants trailer. I can't imagine it was the best decision for the trailer to go with the Saw-esque torture-porn theme.

Just quietly put it on Hulu/Disney+. They're going to need a bunch of stuff on there regardless, just bundle it with the other 12 X-Men movies, the 3 Fantastic Four movies, Daredevil, Elektra, Punisher and Howard the Duck as the "Pre-MCU".

Just throw "Dark Phoenix" in there, too, I say.

You mean, The Last Stand (James McAvoy Edition)?

My buddy is a huge FoX-Men fan and he's SO MAD that Dark Phoenix is set to tank. I feel bad for him.

Although I can't understand the enthusiasm. He owns the entire X-Men animated series, and that's a pretty good adaptation of the actual X-Men universe, albeit watered down for kids. The movies are... Jesus, what ARE the movies, exactly? Like "Very Loosely Inspired By The X-Men" doesn't even really cover it.

Everyone's out of character, nobody's on the right side, the order of events is all screwed up, characters exist in the complete wrong decades and anything that doesn't make sense is hand-waved away because one of the movies had a time-travel gimmick (which actually caused WAY more problems than it solved).

If you love the X-Men, how can you honestly love something that bears NO resemblance to the goddamn X-Men except for the fact that one guy has claws and another guy is in a wheelchair?

I don't get it.

That's what I've been saying for 20 years now. What confuses me is people's confusion when I say "it's nothing like X-Men should be."

If it weren't for Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, and Hugh Jackman, and later James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender, the X-Men movies would never have succeeded.

They're 90% terrible, with some great actors in a few critical roles.

I mean, to be fair, I'm a near-total neophyte.

My Dad collected Marvel books when I was a kid, and I tried to read them, but... well, 1990s Marvel books were generally decent pin-up books with okay artwork but some real nonsense passing for "stories". To anyone who prefers Marvel comics over DC's books, that's certainly their prerogative, but I dismissed them as "juvenile" when I was, like, 9. I gave it a shot, couldn't get into it. Not judging, just explaining.

The cartoons were okay, though, and I knew enough from the books to make me recognize a lot of what I saw, and I appreciated that. And later, the X-Men Legends video games were very good. Those things, the Fox cartoon and the Legends games, are where 90% of my non-movie X-Men knowledge comes from, and it's still similar enough to the books I HAVE read so as to at least be recognizable and familiar.

When I watch the movies, they're Good action films but Terrible adaptations of the X-Men universe. I don't recognize these characters, these scenarios... it's all so completely askew. And again, what else can you expect when the guy (Singer) who's responsible for most of it is on-record as saying, "I don't care about comic books, I've never read them." Then WHY, sir, are you HERE? Like, I get it, you're gay, and "metaphor" and "subtext" and all that... Fine. FINE. But why are you making "X-Men" movies if you ACTIVELY and OPENLY don't give a SH*T about the goddamn X-Men?!

It's actually kind of vulgar how Singer co-opted a popular franchise he had zero actual interest in, just so he could work out his personal "coming out" issues on a film and get paid blockbuster money to do so. Especially knowing as we do now what a scumbag human being he is.

I'm not a big fan of the Disney/Fox merger and how it brings us ten steps closer to the Disney Monopoly endgame, but I'm cautiously looking forward to seeing an X-Men universe that at least KINDA looks, feels, and acts like X-Men As I Recognize Them. That'll be nice, if nothing else.
