I don't think so: it would be strange to introduce mutants into MCU with a Frankenstein of the movie.

From the trailer it comes off as a failed movie adaptation of a YA novel - like "I Am No. 12" or 4 or whatever that was.

But I like that actress in the ridiculous show "Queen of the South" so there's that.

That trailer was so bland it hurts. If they didn't say the word "mutant" I would assume it was another generic horror movie.

They're releasing it to cut their losses since the movie was practically done. Besides that X-men in the MCU is likely still a few years off, probably at least 4-5 years, so by then this movie will be forgotten anyway.

I was curious if Marvel/Disney would end up seeing something in the movie more than Fox did... but the recent stuff about the director being restored full creative control over the edit and it being his vision 100% suggests more Disney just kind of going, "Oh, whatever. We're not using this but at least it can be consistent with the original 'vision.'" A throwaway. Hopefully it gets back some of the money they lost with Dark Phoenix and all.

Maybe a proper X-Men movie is about 4 years off, but guaranteed we'll start getting X-Men stuff way more sooner than later to start setting stuff up. Storm in Black Panther 2 and so on.

Since they're never gonna bring the Fox-Men into the MCU they need to just end it and kill it already so they can rebuild the brand in a year or so. This movie stopped needing to exist the moment Disney bought FOX and Phoenix failed.

Yeah, but they paid for it. Gotta try and get SOME money back. One can argue that they shouldn't have bothered in the first place - and that would be the truth - but it's too late, now.

They definitely got together, crunched the numbers, and decided whether a theatrical or streaming release would potentially recoup more of their investment. They're most likely going to lose a lot of money, but if they didn't think they'd get at least half of what they already spent back, they'd kick it to Disney+ or whatever.

It's probably a good decision. They can probably count on at least a few "curiosity tickets" sold to people who go see whatever's out and don't follow the "dirt sheets". Anyone who'd potentially stream it has been following the production over the last several years and is already well-aware that it's a lost cause, so there's no money in a streaming or download or straight-to-disc release. They're banking on someone who doesn't know any better, seeing a commercial and buying a ticket. Otherwise, they wouldn't bother.

I mean, ultimately, they shouldn't have bothered making the thing in the first place, but again, too late now.

I doubt it. Seems like a really weird choice. Why keep a $hittier part of the Fox-Men for the MCU, and not stars like McAvoy, Fassbender, Stewart, or McKellan?

Just a guess, but because the New Mutants are a brand new and tiny corner of the mutant landscape they can either keep or ignore going forward, and because McAvoy, Fassbender, Stewart, and McKellen are all part of the larger mutant landscape that is tarnished and ruined?
