Your favourite person from each foreign country
I thought this would make a fun "game". Think of actors, historical figures, musicians, athletes, authors, comedians, etc. you really like and then think of what country they're from and list them in this thread. Ofc feel free to provide a quick explanation or description.
I'll only list countries that have someone I clearly like above everyone else or someone from there. I'll start: EUROPE Austria: Falco. Rock me Amadeus! Belgium: Hergé. The creator of Tintin. Czech Republic: Franz Kafka... and yes I know he died a bit too early for THAT. Denmark: King Diamond. Metal musician England: Hugh Laurie, I guess. Been a fan of him since Black Adder. Finland: Mika Hakkinen, former Formula 1 racer. Most people preferred the German Michael Schumacher at the time. I preferred the Finnish guy. Germany: Friedrich Nietzsche. One of the greatest philosophers of all time. Greece: I guess Alexander the Great. He sure left his mark in history. Holland: Pierre van Hooijdonk. Also a very underrated footballer. Hungary: Franz Liszt, definitely! Ireland: Oscar Wilde would be my pick. Italy: Monica Bellucci. Talk about a lady who's aged like a fine wine. Norway: Edvard Much, perhaps? Poland: Chopin. What an amazing pianist he was! Scotland: Gordon Ramsey, the cussing cook. Sweden: Henrik Larson. One of the most underrated footballers of all time. ASIA Japan - As a massive Nintendo fan it has to be Shigeru Miyamoto, of course Mongolia - Well, Genghis Khan... South Korea - One of my best friends. If you're reading this, you're welcome! AMERICAS Argentina - Lionel Messi. One of the greatest football players of all time and the best one in the world at the moment. Brazil - I guess Ronaldinho. 2002-2006 Ronaldinho was the best player in the world. Canada - Y2J Chris Jericho. One of the best wrestlers ever and entertaining as hell on the mic. I love that guy. Colombia - Sofia Vergara for the most shallow reasons. Cuba - Ana de Armas for the most shallow reasons. Paraguay - Oscar "Tacuara" Cardozo. Top foreign goal scorer in my football club's(Benfica) history. Uruguay - Luiz Suárez. One of the best football players in the world. USA - Larry David, maybe? I loved both Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm and he was the genius behind both shows. AFRICA Mozambique - Eusébio, of course. Greatest Portuguese footballer ever and also biggest Benfica legend was born there . |

Also, Genghis Khan? Controversial!

Nothing wrong with that. If you asked me to make a top 20 list of favourite Japanese people a lot of them would be pornstars as well. But since this is a family friendly forum it's better to avoid mentioning them
I couldn't think of a single Australian or Kiwi in particular that I truly like. Sorry. |

Portugal: magellan. One of the first explorers I learnt about.
England: Winston Churchill. Inspiring person who gave great speeches. Wales: Tom Jones. Amazing voice. Canada: Chad Kroeger. Distinctive voice. France: Charles de Gaulle USA: Sarah Michelle Gellar. Favourite actress. Great in Buffy and Cruel Intentions. Germany: Anne Frank. Japan: Yuji Naka. Co-creator of Sonic, who is still one of my fav characters, though I don’t play games much these days. Can’t think of any others at the moment.

There are theories might have been Portuguese but I've never understood their origin... |

Actually, I'd rather you had let him remain instead of picking Nelly Furtado Good lord, the Euro 2004 song of hers still haunts me to this day. It was like nails on a chalkboard. Nelly isn't Portuguese either, technically. She's of Portuguese ancestry but was born and raised in Canada

But there's a region in northern Greece called Macedonia. There's a bit dispute between Greece and FYROM over who owns the rights to the name Macedonia. The country of Macedonia has spent a lot of money in Alexander the Great statues and such afaik. They're trying to find some sort of cultural identity.
