Reeves has a backup plan to replace Affleck:

Jake Gyendyall is the current rumor for a new Batman. I think he'd work better as a new Joker or Dick Grayson though.

I love Jake's work but he's an awful choice. He's like a bright-eyed "big kid" in everything, which works for almost everything he's done but doesn't remotely work for the most iconic brooding vigilante of them all.

Well Affleck got 2 movies as Batman, similar to Michael Keaton and one less than Christian Bale.
Live action Batman never seems to last long with the same actor anyway. Bruce Wayne is always the easiest character to cast. |

But not even making it to do one standalone, actual Batman movie? That seems pretty embarassing.

More or less than being in a suit with bat-nipples?

Eh... true. Probably less. One polarizing movie plus one bad makeshift one vs. a standalone horrifically awful standalone one. I'd probably take the former. Probably more money in it, too.

And here's the latest rumor about Jake Gyllenhaal assuming the role.

I honestly don't know who I would try to cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne.
I feel like I could Tom Cruise could do a good job but I would be distracted by the fact that he's crazy in real life. I think Armie Hammer might work if he died his hair to Bruce Wayne's signature black

Could this be the first Batman movie I won't care to see?
I say cancel it, or just like the Joker origin movie which we might or might not ever see, just make it a full standalone and not part of the DCCU.

Why would you say that when Matt Reeves is a good director and whatever this movie turns out to be, it's bound to be much better than the whole Synder films and likely Dark Knight rises as well.

The Dark Knight Rises was pretty weak for a Batman film though. Not to mention, a disappointing ending to an otherwise great trilogy.

I loved it, probably more than TDK. It only suffers because it feels like we are missing a movie in between TDK and TDKR... the "should I take up the cowl again?" and "oooh, mah knees!" stuff is hard to sell when he was only Batman for like a week.

i felt like the Dark Knight was pretty weak.
Apart from a piss poor joker attempt...and performance. The whole 'batman has to take the blame for harvey dents murder' bit I remember not making much sense. It's been a while since I Saw the movie, but IIRC, I don't remember batman even taking direct part in the action, and suddenly gordon is framing him for the murder? even if they both know he didn't do it? Not sure if that is how it went down, but that is how my memory is coming up on details. |

I'm not on board a semi-rebooted DCEU, either give us the original vision or a complete reboot. "Salvaging" the current DCEU is going to give us a crappy shared universe.
