Has the Technodrome become generic looking?

The technodrome that inspired the name of this forum was this machine meant to instill fear into anyone who saw it and of alien origin coming from Dimension X.

It was re-designed for Turtles Forever into a Death Star looking generic sphere after the "upgrades" which eliminated its iconic look. However since then the other appearances of the drome have kept that look for the most part, the Nick show and the PD movie bot had it being a sphere that floats with just a generic laser as the "eye". I can't comment on IDW since I haven't read it but the one picture I found online while it does try to have the iconic eye at the top it still looks mostly generic.

I remember when TF aired people praising the look as it was "modernizing" the drome since the original looked "dated/80s" but I never saw it like that, I saw it as alien and very different from any other "evil" weapon while the new one has nothing to set it apart. Those are my thoughts, but what about yours?
