Thanks for the comments... I liked the look of that piece, so I wanted to try and get it. Fortunately it stayed within my general budget heh, especially as I'm pretty much there for going to SDCC this year now.

Now is your chance Steve at Shellback just posted a ton of pages for sale straight from Kevin. I think the lastest page is from book 8.

I saw that I contacted Steve about them too. Buuuuuuut, I'm getting married next year so I have to save a ton of money. Maybe, I'll have to put it on my credit card.

Can I be totally honest?

MM is what led me to stop reading TMNT - not because of the art, in fact that cover above is just beautiful, but the book had until that point a darker look, and then it went lighthearted and almost campy... I guess what I am saying is that as a reader at the time the MM art was nice in its own way but it was such an incredibly jarring transition (no fault of MM) that I was just left wondering WTF am I reading, is this even the same title??

I just think that both the readers and MM were put in a tough spot the way the title was transitioned. Maybe Kevin and Pete were just too busy at that time to do it any other way.

Now I haven't read those issues since I was a kid so maybe my recollections are unfair, but that's the impression it made on me as a kid. I can definitely appreciate it now, but I do wish there had been a greater consistency in, not the artwork, but the tone of the artwork and stories.

It was sort of like, I dunno, a movie that was a horror for the first 45 minutes and then anchorman for the last 45 minutes, it was just a WTF moment as a reader.

Again, none of this is to say anything about the MM art itself, which is nice, especially the above cover.

I totally get what you're saying. personally, I like MM's stuff. I like his stories, but I love his art. back in the day I was only able to get the v1 issues sporadically. I didn't read the MM issues until about a year after they were originally released and I kinda thought the same thing. not just with him thought, but with all the "new" artists that I started seeing. I was kinda thrown for a loop. I didn't dislike any of the books, but I was confused why they were not the same style that I had been seeing and why the stories were so different. I was pretty young though, so it didn't quite really register. the only thing I knew was that there was a change. however, I was digging seeing the different styles of art, so I didn't think too much more about it. again, I was pretty young so at that time I was more into the art than the stories per say.

wow, cool but a little too pricey for me. kevin is smart. I think he is selling the "decent" regular pages to the hungry sharks who are willing to drop big bucks for a little piece of history. these sales are inflating the turtle art market and once it gets really juicy, I bet he'll start dropping some of the more prime time pages and they'll go for really outrageous prices. i'm no economist, but I getting the strong feeling of a bubble here...

Yeah, as awesome as it looks at first seeing a grouping of them, when I break them down I can't really pull the trigger.

I thought the best deal was the #5 page because that one has the turtles on it. But its not a page I'm in love with. All five of the others don't have the turtles so that's a drag. The #8 page with cerebus is cool as I love that character too, but, for 2500 I can basically get a cerebus cover so I can't justify spending that dough on an tmnt interior page with cerebus.

Ha, Eastman is smart. Compared to his eBay pages, these are a steal. Can't fault his sense of business...

I would agree with this, #5 is probably the best OA for your dollar. In a way, seeing these prices are helping my impulses subside. It's alot harde to impulse buy a page for a few grand rather than a few hundred.

Alot of Mark's writing in the late 80's was very satiristic and hard to follow for some. He is a little goofy like the rest of us. Mark is not concerned about conformity. His art/writing speaks for itself. I hear alot of people voice they don't get him, which is fine. Trust me, if you look at his work beyond TMNT, you'll get a better picture of his style. And no doubt he has talent beyond most!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
