Why even bother with Mutagen if the raw Ooze is that useful?

For some reason I haven't really thought about this before, but why was Stockgen/Null's main research into Ooze about making Mutagen? I mean yes, we know Stockgen's mutagen project was funded by an evil alien in need of soldiers, and Null has some otherworldly connection as well. Not to mention how the Foot clan needed to be on top as well. However, why does it seem to be their main project into Ooze research?

Raw ooze has been used to:
  • Regrow lost limbs.
  • Reverse aging.
  • Cure paralysis.
  • Increase muscle mass.
  • Repair alcohol damage.
  • Induce and maintain suspended animation.
  • And (allegedly) make one biologically immortal.

And keep in mind that barely (if any) modifications need to be made for these effects. Making a monster army is great and all, but you could sell a bottle of this stuff for billions. Make your monster serum and sell the leftovers to fund other projects. Who wouldn't want to be a jacked, eternally young immortal with all their medical conditions cured? I know I would.

I don't think I've ever seen a version of that panel so pristine .

My guess is that if it's capable of versatility, why not expand it beyond being the miracle cure-all a Snake Oil salesman in the old Wild West would have killed for.

(Huh...IDW, make that a character they can meet time travelling, that sounds really cool)

Nigel West Dickens would love to get his hands on some Ooze for sure!

Maybe because humans prefer destruction (war) rather than repair (cure)?

They would rather use the ooze to make "weapons" then as a cure for illnesses etc?

Just a thought...(maybe the answer to your question is human nature)
