Official Episode Discussion S2 #18 "Pizza Face"

The fact that this episode has inspired such anger and hate in people is bizarre. Some of you really should lighten up. Now I know what Ciro meant when he said, "Go out and enjoy life."

I never knew a single episode could cause people to form such vehement hatred.

I forgot to post my thoughts on this episode yesterday...all in all I thought it was pretty funny and a nice change of pace. Really hate Leo's new voice though, that better not be a permanent change. BTW, did anyone else see they re-used Vic's (Spider Bytez before he was mutated) model with the pizza over his face as one of the "zombies"? Oh, and it was nice to see Irma again. So yeah, just a nice, fun episode IMO.

Not a bad episode, though I gotta admit I'm a little disappointed they didn't actually use a more humanoid model design resembling the action figure. Instead they basically ripped off Mel Brook's Pizza the Hut character from Spaceballs.

That's impossible. The not-Vic model was the one that even smacked Mikey to the roof. He was basically front and center.

I do see where people are coming from with Mikey eating Pizzaface. Him being alive as a slice of pizza (how does that even work? Pizza Face was a giant slice of pizza, how would one perfect slice cut itself away from that?) doesn't change the fact that Mikey ate a human. Saying 'it's ok cuz he's alive' is like someone taking a bite out of your arm and saying 'no biggie, you're still alive'.

But I think this is one of those times in cartoons you're supposed to turn your brain off, not 'think too much into it' and see it as something goofy as Mikey eating a giant talking pizza monster.

Of course thinking too much about it..... well that's almost as nasty as Shredder boiling them alive and eating giant-sized turtle soup....

Mikey was pretty brutal this episode XD He was even the bad cop.

Jeph! Always nice to hear from you. It's like the old days. That was a disappointment for me as well. I loved the Pizzaface figure and thought he would have made an excellent nemesis in the old cartoon. And while I really liked Pizza face's voice here, the image of Mikey eating him was just too disturbing for me.

I thought this episode was terrible. I think this series is going downhill, as this is the second episode I haven't finished because I didn't like it, the other one being the ad for fantasy turtle action figures. I stopped watching this one around when they started the whole "they think he's lying" thing. It was just too tiring for me to watch.

Only thing I can say about this episode is that I didn't notice it wasn't Jason Biggs' voice for Leo and I actually thought Pizzaface sounded like Danny DeVito.

I didn't pay that much attention to the episode really. Thought it was pretty dumb.

You know, I'm starting to seriously wonder if that retromutagen Mikey doused himself with in "Mikey gets Shellacne" actually did something to Mikey's DNA. Cause we have that possible gag where there was a portal in the porta-potty that only Mikey was able to access in Metalhead rewired. And in this episode when he was going all "Bad Cop" on that pizza. At one point he rips a pepperoni off it and eats it but isn't affected. It could be that it's only the cheese has the effect on the eater. But maybe Mikey could be immune to pizza face because of the events in episode 5.

pretty sure it's just for the laughs

but that would be a welcomed twist.

Seen it finally. Here I go:

Yays/Lols

- Irma appeared again! (Aww but she later got left behind alone.. )
- Mikey centric episode. Some people tend to dislike it cause Nick is not taking a serious approach on him seriously, but I think that's part of his charm. Face it people, this is how Mikey really is in this universe. He's goofy, carefree and is serious when he needs to be. He won't change anytime soon, and the kids generally love how he is.
- April's "date" with Casey. Irma's not buying it and neither am I (cause we know Apritello is where it's at hehe).
- Mikey making pizza. I love how they showed in detail how it's done from rolling the dough, spreading the sauce..He's so lively and happily singing (nice voice too), it's infectious. And Ice Cream Kitty joined in too! (Kittykittykittykitty lol)
- TMNT 1 movie reference with the pizza delivery
- Mikey's fight segments
- Antonio being Pizza Face! I mean we only get to see his face on the pizza logo brand but hey, he's an actual character in this universe. That kinda amuses me - it's like Colonel Sanders from KFC suddenly being a character you interact with.



Nays

- Repeated use of same citizen models. I see the body of that lil girl Leo had tea with, SpiderBytez human body, the blonde girl, etc. But yeah this is a tv series animation, budgets and all. Understandable tbh.



Shocking/Bizarre moments

- pizza delivery guy crashed into Irma. WTF I thought she died for a moment but she seemed fine.
- Mikey's interrogation scene. When he's about to cruelly toss the pizza into the fireplace. I love the suggested brutality here.
- Mikey's homemade pizza has a ... dead rat??? An eyeball possibly from a fish.. and other weird stuff. Well, he's a mutant and they did eat algae and worms before so this is not so farfetched I guess.. and he's a growing teenager so... you go Mikey.
- Antonio tasting the mutagen. I guess the mutagen has a bizarre hypnotic attribute to it because people seems to want to consume it.. be it as tea, energy drink, secret pizza ingredient..
- Mikey eating Pizza Face. How can he stomach it all (literally)?

Overall

I enjoyed this episode very much. A 8.5/10

And I actually didn't realize Leo's changed voice until I see the end credits. He seems to be doing exceedingly fine in his role and I'm happy either way.

If-- or should I say when, Pizzaface returns, I hope he teams up with another villain. I'd also love to see Shredder's reaction to this mutant. "What? A talking pizza? Stockman, I take it back! Those pigs and rhinos are starting to sound more reasonable!" Nah but seriously, this incarnation of Pizzaface definitely appeals to my inner child. I like my OT fig, but this was what I was expecting in the early 90's as a kid of about 7 or so. Ciro and co nailed him.

You can't just tell people to "lighten up" just because they don't like an episode. You can't force people to like it. I didn't like the episode either, not because it was badly made, just because for me personally it felt "way too out there", too forced, gross and because it wasn't really my kind of humor.

This doesn't mean the episode was bad (certainly not), just that everyone has his/her own preference of what they would like in an episode.


Besides, "Mazes and Mutants" was silly/crazy too, but I definitely enjoyed that one. It all depends on the person who is watching.

I honestly thought you'd dislike this one, Cubed. You haven't been too thrilled with all the mutants lately. I'm not trying to be a smarta$$ or anything. I was seriously surprised you'd like this story. Cool beans. I went into it optimistic and wasn't disappointed. It would have been cool to see Pf more than just a bit in the 3rd act, although I liked that video game level boss vibe he seemed to give off. I'm a sucker for mutagencentric eps myself. You guys are talking to the fellow who used to mix up soap and water in the bathroom sink around 1990 as a kid of about 7 and pretend it was ooze.

Since I love horror movies, I have to say I enjoy the whole mutagen ick factor in this show. The humor is never unbearable, to me anyway. I just get down on my knees and thank God there are no Breadwinnerish fart jokes. Allot of the humor the show has to offer is actually rather dark and twisted if you think about it. EG Kirby regurgitating the rat carcass in Mutation Sitch and April Derp in Kraang Conspiracy. Sort of feels like the humor presented to viewers of the Return of The Living Dead films. Can't help but think some of the writers are gaga for 80's horror movies. Good on them!

Two days later, I think the thing I hate about this episode the most is I no longer have any affection or desire for pizza. I'm completely turned off. I hope my reaction passes as this is or was my favorite food.

I actually gave away a whole pizza last night. Once I opened the box, I just couldn't do it.
