IRL Escape Rooms

The Georgetown escape room that’s bringing movies like ‘Friday the 13th’ to life

Escape Room Live has announced that its third location will open in Georgetown on M Street Northwest, likely by the end of the summer. As with other escape room games, which have recently cropped up all over the world, players will work in teams to solve puzzles and brainteasers in order to "escape" the room in which they're trapped -- before time runs out.

The Georgetown space will be different than the company's existing locations in Glover Park and Alexandria. Thanks to a partnership with Paramount and Sony Pictures Entertainment, the new location's five rooms will have themes and plots based on hit movies: "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "Titanic," "Ghostbusters," "The Mummy" and "Friday the 13th." According to Escape Room Live owner Ginger Flesher-Sonnier, a sixth room, based on Edgar Allan Poe's stories, will premiere later this year.
If they were to actually make it look like one of the lairs, why would we want to escape?? I hope there are pics eventually.

Article doesn't say WHICH Georgetown ( as if the Washington Post only has local readers?), but far as I can tell it sounds like it's in Washington, DC.

Are you telling me I can go somewhere to be chased down by Foot Soldiers?

I want in.

Actually, no, I don't. I may eat pizza as often as a ninja turtle, but I sure as hell ain't in the same physical condition they are.

That's cool, yo!

Sounds like it would be a fun time.

A while back (early last year, I think), I came across a Russian group that did something similar with the TMNT experience.

Looks like the pages and video are mostly defunct now, but they clearly put a lot of work into it.

Plenty. If anyone does ever check it out I hope they get pics if able. Doubt there will be Foot Soldiers if these are just rooms, but would be cool if it's designed really well.

That Russian one looks pretty awesome.

Wondered about that one. Maybe it looks like a passenger cabin and the theme is getting out before the ship goes down?

I'm picturing screens on the walls made to look like portholes and rising water shown on it and eerie sinking ship sounds... o.O

That one is a little too morbid for me. (Not sure where he is on the family tree, but someone who shared my last name died with it. I'll pass.)

Wow, that sounds really fun! I would love to join in on something like that...despite my lack of good physical condition. I'm overweight and have become lazier over the years. ^^ lol Either way, still sounds fun, trying to escape Foot Soldiers and Shredder.

This sounds amazing. For TMNT it must be something like a sewer or alleyway where you're running from the Foot or something. They can't do the lair because like someone else said I would just want to ignore the time limit and hang out there all day.

Would a escape room that resembles part of The Technodrome be out of the question, because that would be a neat idea.

Did anyone in the DC area ever try this escape room? Looks like it has cycled out of rotation now. Would love to hear a firsthand account!

EDIT: found this review online: https://escapeauthority.com/review-tmnt/ Looks pretty fun... but sounds like they've since converted the room into a generic "Runaway Subway" experience and stripped the TMNT theme away. Cowabummer. Maybe the niche marketing wasn't bringing in enough escapees.
