Was Shinigami originally a member of the foot?

This question popped into my mind when I remembered that Karai and Shinigami are both members of the Foot Clan who were childhood friends.

Was Shinigami also a member of the foot clan from the start due to her lineage or just an outsider who happened to be good friends with Karai?

If she was good friends with Karai from the start, then was she originally a criminal in Japan who hated Hamato Yoshi just as Karai did?

I find this fascinating partially because Shinigami is very loyal to Karai in her mission to restore the honour of the foot but doesn't often voice her own opinion.

I wonder what Shinigami would've been like during seasons 1-2 when Karai was an enemy of the turtles, and what led her to side with Karai after she joined the turtles rather than joining the Shredder like most other Foot Clan members.

Most likely. I don't think Shredder would have allowed her to have non-Foot Clan friends.

OR... she wasn't and Karai, rebel that she is, hung out with her anyway. Maybe that's why Shini came back when the Foot Clan was falling apart.

We may have to question this at any Turtle Panels this year.

Hopefully, season 5 will have a flashback of their childhood.

I like to think that she wasn't and Karai hung out with her despite her father's protests.

The thing is, if she really was part of the Foot, then she would've been evil at first which she shows no signs of.

I like the idea of Karai rebelling against Shredder by befriending someone outside of the Foot.

this seems more like the case because if she was part of the foot in the 1st place, then why in the world did she do that initiation test to join the foot?

But her character sheet calls her 'the witch of the footclan' its possible that when Shredder first left for New York he left Karai back at the foot clan in Japan. When the turtles and locating splinter proved to be more of a problem for his henchmutants he summoned her to succeed where Bradford and Xever failed. When Karai learned the truth and broke free of the shredders control she left the city so Shredder would not find her, contacted Shinigami and filled her in on what has happened. And shini willingly joined her because they were friends and relied on one another.
