I'm not so sure insurance companies consider the eye procedure as cosmetic. Just not medically necessary do to the cure being to put on glasses. A knee injury is not so easily cured so requires surgery.

Not to mention the fact that a lot of the time, knee replacements are necessary for people like my father; his knee was in awful shape because of his age and the surgery ended up being a little more drastic than expected when they actually got in to do the replacement.

I'd consider eye bag removal way later on. My mom's side seems to have a problem with that and it seems rather simple/not so painful.

Oh, alright. Hopefully one day more things like this surgery are covered.

Oh, with eye correction surgery I would absolutely do that, no doubt. Sadly my eyes have not been stable for it, my mom planned a vacation trip for us both to have laser and just recover on the beach, but since my eye sight keep deteriorate, she went and did it alone
You eyes should be stable for about 1-2 years, if not the operation won't be effective. |

What about hair transplants or regrowing hair? I notice I'm growing a bit of a bald spot, but I sure as hell am not going to spend $10,000 for some hair transplant.
I'd rather just shave it all off in the future. Never had a shaved head before myself, but I may have to go that direction within the next 5 years or so. |

Laser eye surgery isn't just for people who don't want to wear glasses. It can be the difference between glasses and blindness, so if you can't get insurance that covers that in your part of the world then your insurance companies smoke pole. |

I wish insurance would cover more preventive measures when folks take care of themselves. So if I purchased "healthy food" the grocery store bills insurance. I would need insurance first though. Haven't had any in years.

If the infection spreads or gets into the blood stream, well you go septic or it can go right to the brain and you're done. Why when I had an abscess behind a fractured tooth (and terrible pain) my dentist had me taking an antibiotic to get rid of it first before he'd even touch that tooth. Pulling it or doing other work (such as the root canal I ended up with) could wind up letting the infection into your bloodstream. Quote:
Like you, I can't for the same reason. I'm glad I used to have a really great eye doctor (prior to his retirement) who told me. The deterioration slowed down years ago, but it hasn't stopped. Last edited by IndigoErth; 07-07-2017 at 10:56 AM. |

Yep. A tooth filling is one of those cases where an artificial extension of the body is literally life-saving. There are times when such things are absolutely necessary and cavities are one of them.

I would agree. As for eye surgery, I've been told that even with laser surgery I will never have better than 20/80 or so but I figure that is WAAAY better than the 20/950 or so that it is now. I am literally legally blind without glasses. Last I checked contacts were no longer even an option for my eyes. Not strong enough.

Honestly, I'm lucky to be at that point, but I still can barely read anything ten feet away from me in large fonts. And it does get steadily worse with every visit to the optometrist.
I've always needed glasses, but I wasn't good at wearing them consistently until I was in sixth grade. And even then, I needed to wear the kind that didn't have nose pads because it was more comfortable. I can now, though.

How does FIXING something like eyes teeth or whatever (cleft palates come to mind) mess you up?

Maybe Wesley's already too pretty and shouldn't ruin a good thing.
I mean, technically it could mess you up if the job was botched or you're one of those who are obsessive compulsive with plastic surgery and continuing to "fix" things until you make it terrible. I couldn't imagine doing it though. How do you look in the mirror and, for example, ever get used to a new nose or whatnot? Would just be too weird for me. If born with a defect, okay maybe, but if all is normal already it would be strange. |

Thats the thing though- even purely cosmetic surgery is intended to "fix" a problem area. Even if it is just a nose job. If someone feels they have something "wrong" like nose too big, it can seriously hurt their self esteem. And then some people have "cosmetic" surgery to fix things like facial burns, or other surface imperfections that cause problems in their lives. Heck even breast implants or reductions can be neccessary for some people.
