I meant in the sense that Bond is still going to find ways of winning the women over, learn a lesson along the way, become a better character and agent etc. He's not going to be usurped the whole movie. He'll break out of his funk and adapt to survive.

Isn't he? Looking at the box office, Skyfall (the 2nd to last film) made the most money of any Bond film (though I'm a little iffy on the inflation, to be fair) and even the latest one, SPECTRE, which was largely critically panned, made the 2nd most of all.

Now, I'm pragmatic about this. I kind of have always wished the Brocollis had introduced the idea of "James Bond" as a moniker that is passed down from agent to agent. Like, Sean Connery "James Bond" retires or dies, now George Lazenby "James Bond" comes in to assume the same identity, but they all have different real names. Who they were isn't important. There wouldn't even be any need for reboots, ever, as every time a new Bond actor takes over it would basically be that anyway, as it'd be a new character learning the ropes. Plus all that history gets saved.

But the thing is, they didn't do that. With Casino Royale and that (unnecessary, I would argue... "b-b-but what about Austin Powers??!" is a horrible reason to jettison decades of Bond history and lore) reboot they doubled down on exactly who James Bond is, and it isn't a moniker. We even got to know some of the Bond family history in "Skyfall." Now, nothing is saying that "007" can't be the thing that is retired from and assumed by other people, but not the name "James Bond." That just isn't the universe they've established.

They're not going to make this a permanent change because James Bond is more marketable than 007. Making James Bond black could happen but a woman is losing too much branding.

As far as this new female 007, well either she's the villain or she dies and gives the title back or hell Craig passes the torch to her at the end of the movie marking the end of the Craig 007 continuity and either a new 007 continuity or "continuing" regular 007 continuity after.

No big deal either way.

It's very true. It could very well be TPTB playing around a bit with our expectations. As in... we think it's this SJW revenge/misogynistic reversal thing, but she actually ends up being the villain (as you say), a thing that Bond has to confront and destroy -- in the actual film.

Pathetic pandering to PC SJW Culture Hollywood. have no clue. Look, I am not a HUGE 007 fan. I do like some of the movies, because I love action flicks, Bond is the man's man. There is nothing wrong with men having a franchise of their own. A commentator I followed said the SJW formula for dominating Hollywood is take an established franchise with a predominately male fan base, replace all of the strong men with women, call anyone who dislikes it names, fail at the box office, blame the fans, rinse and repeat. Wake me up when Hollywood is done trying to self implode.

here are plenty of movies with strong female leads (Alien and Aliens, Kill Bill, Terminator 1 and 2, Heavy Metal's Taarna story etc) and there is always the option to, I don't know, make something NEW *gasps* Hijacking all of these franchises to make them 'woke' is calculated and egregious. I have never had a problem with Bond. I have enjoyed some of the movies. I did not need to see a female bond. It is OK for men to have something they enjoy. If the tables were turned and someone did a white, female Shaft then people would be screeching from the rooftops (with good reason). or if you did an Alien remake where Ripley is a male then it's just double standards and just as lazy and bad.

No need for a female James Bond as the character himself is designed to me a man, make your own character who is female similar to James Bond and that one is Atomic blonde which is it's own example of a female version of James bond just like Lara Croft is a female version of Indiana Jones that is her own character since 1997.

The glut of all-female remakes like oceans 8 and Ghostbusters is, in my opinion, lazy, disingenuous & harmful towards the push for real diversity even the upcoming Cliffhanger remake which will bomb big time. It's a really cynical, lazy half assed marketing ploy. Why remakes? Give women NEW concepts and scripts, not tired retreads of old male films. women deserve better with their own films like Kill Bill and Atomic Blonde for example.

Forced changes die out pretty quickly.
Sometimes even 70 years is not enough.
