deviantART's Secret Santa is a go!
There was talk of them not doing it, but it looks like the Secret Santa art trade is happening after all. I participated a couple years ago and it was a lot of fun - I wrote a pretty good action-heavy fic and got a really nice piece of fanart in return.
So I think I'm in for this year. Even though it's ridiculous for me to take on another thing right now... what can I say, I work good under pressure. Anyways, who's in? There are quite a few talented artists here... It would be great to have some of you guys participate. Deadline for sign-up is November 30. Assignments will be given on Dec. 1 and are due by Jan. 1. links: Secret Santa group on dA This year's guidelines General rules

I think this would be a lot of fun to get in on. I may consider it.

I'm thinking I'll sign up. I love requests, although I don't usually do them under that kind of pressure but what the hey, it sounds like fun.
Only thing is I haven't a clue what to ask for in return! |

Not to be a snob, but is there any quality control? I mean, let's face it, DA is full of lunatics and fetishists and people who copy stock poses or have some other poorly regarded technique.

Pretty much. There's no guarantee that you'll receive the highest quality of art in return, since everyone's skill varies. But there are standards, and of course you make a request for what you want (so you can say, "gimme a pic of Raph and Casey bro'ing it up, no funny business" and that's what you'll get). Some people request tcest and erotic stuff I guess, but that's their bag and they'll be paired up with people who want to do that kind of stuff.
You give them a list of things you will or won't do, also. My list of won'ts is pretty long... like no tcest, no fetish or romance, self-inserts, OCs, chibi/kid turtles, etc. So I get paired up with other boring people like myself. I've seen some really good artists participate in the past, but again, it varies. You can check through the past year's folders and see for yourself though. I only did it once, but I had a lot of fun with it. I loved the fanart I got in return, but I also worked really hard on the piece I did, and the recipient was stoked about it. And that was reward in itself.

Sounds decent enough. I'm only a bit concerned that my "wonts" list will be huge, rivaling your own, I'm sure. I'm very picky, at least when you take into consideration your average DA requests. I'd like to give it a go, though.

Maybe we should do a Technodrome Artist Secret Santa...skip the middle man.

Or fan works in general that could include fan fics. That would be fun.

Sounds fun, though I'm not clear how this works. Kinda new to this.
Sign-up meaning people post in this thread to participate? Then when's the contest deadline? |

Gotta say, it sounds like fun, but I highly doubt I'd have time to do it properly. Normally I don't have a lot of things to work on in my spare time in Nov/Dec, but for once I do. Ah well, maybe next year.
And yeah, my list of "won't"s would be really long, too, lol.

On the plus side, I imagine most of us with a long list of won'ts will get paired with each other.
I'm committed to the dA one this year, so I doubt I'd have time for more than one, but I'd totally be down for a 'drome SS myself. I think the overall concept of it is cool, and no doubt this community could pump out some really great stuff.

I went ahead and signed up for it on DA. Prolly a bit stupid of me considering how busy I am, but it just seems like a lot of fun. Getting something neat will be a plus, but I'm more into the idea of making someone else happy, even moreso anonymously (sorta).

Awesome, Powder. Yeah, I sent my list in today too. Dang, now I'm hoping I'll get lucky and land you for my request.

Aaaaaaand of course they slap me with a shipping request despite my being very clear I wanted nothing of the sort. Oh deviantart, why must you be such a cesspool?

Nothing too bad, really. It's just irksome for me since I don't really like shipping. I don't wanna say what it is as that'd potentially give away the user whose request I'm doing,
& they may very well be a member here.

I still don't have my assignment, anyone else waiting? They put a journal up saying they're running behind but I hope it's not too much longer. I get really busy in the last two weeks up to Christmas and it'll be a squeeze to fit in.
