Gorillaz

There's a new album coming out April 26th, I believe. There's a couple songs out and a new music video.

Spoiler:

This one's probably the best. At first I hated it, but now I can't get enough of that Jamaican autotune sh*t. It gets better the more you listen to it.

Anyone else have thoughts on the new songs?

I've loved everything they've ever done except most of the new stuff. Booo.

I wish. As far as whats come out, no Del.

@Powder, it's certainly different. It took me awhile to get used to it, but I like Saturn Barz and Andromeda enough. It's no Clint Eastwood or FGI, but we're never gonna beat that quality again.

The ones that are just "2D" singing are decent. The rest, blech. Unlike most people, I've never needed an adjustment period with new material. I really have gone nuts for just about everything Damon's ever touched, including his very eclectic African & Mandarin works. Just not feeling the joints he's barely on, & not solely for that reason but for their general vibe.

There's already this thread I started a few months ago but alrighty

So far I've liked Hallelujah Money and Andromeda, but Saturn Barz wasn't for me. Too much autotune or something, I don't know.

I kept hearing rumours that David Bowie would be a guest on Humanz ever since artwork of him as a Gorilla was tweeted by the band a few months before his death. Looks like that wasn't the case unfortunately

Haven't heard the new stuff yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Of their new songs, I like Andromeda the most as it has the most Damon Albarn in it. The other songs aren't terrible, but they feel off somehow. Anyway, there is 20 something songs on the album, and I'm sure the songs will grow on me with time.

The rest of their stuff is absolutely fantastic.

Pretty good stuff so far, thought that Andromeda and Hallelujah Money were a little too slower paced for my liking but I really did like Ascension and Saturn Burnz. For the Saturn Burnz music video I'm sort of mixed, on one hand I do like seeing the Gorillaz together in one place but most of the environments are too bland looking with the exception of the cosmos scene with Murdoc

Watching it in VR is something special, though. I think I've sat through it 4 or times already.

Snagged tickets to the Toronto show this morning. Hyped!

So, anyone listen to Humanz yet?

I like it better than I did Plastic Beach upon first listen. It's a good sign since I love that album.

I did. Ehhhhhh. It has a consistent sound? 2 songs stood out to me, but that was pretty much it.

I can't see this one pulling a Plastic Beach where it becomes universally loved after being shat on during it's initial release.

We'll see how time treats it but if you're using yourself as any indicator...

So, I've probably gone through the entire album about 20 times already. Loving this whole album. I find myself skipping the second half of Strobelite, as I think it overstays it's welcome at 4:25. I also occasionally skip Sex Murda Party, which I think is the weakest of all the tracks.

I managed to nab two tickets to Gorillaz in Toronto. On a Monday though, so, that's kinda balls. Also, as someone who usually sees local or niche bands and little else, yeeeeah were these tickets more than what I'm used to shelling out. 2 tickets came to $256. Yikes.
