Well, not everybody calls it that. Maybe the Griswolds would think a little differently:

Maybe it's a midwest thing? It was called that in Missouri.

Big in the Southeast too, at least back in the 80s.

Yeah use to hear my Grandpa call it Wallyworld as well, about ten years ago. So it's in the PNW. Thought he was weird until I heard another person also use the phrase.
Yeah same situation for me. |

Wait, really?
I've lived in Missouri for a LONG time and I've never heard it referred by that name. But then again, I'm not really a social dude so it's likely that's why I've never heard of that. Quote:

I was actually fortunate to catch Best Buy's listing for it when preorders went up for it around 1am, and I pounced, and hoped it wouldn't turn out to be like that Wal-Mart fiasco when preorders went up on their site, and then the preorders people put in were then canceled. I made it so they'd ship it to my residence. So hopefully they'll have enough for those who did preorder.
Despite my success of preordering from Best Buy's site, I still checked Wal-Mart's site and Amazon's site to see if they might have also started taking preorders. Someone at my job wants one too, and I thought of ordering two from Best Buy, but then I wondered if my order would get canceled for that later on. So at work, I told the person at my job to be on the lookout for preorders on retail sites. Then I got this text from GameStop around 1pm saying that you can preorder from them. That's when I went on my lunch break and went home to try to preorder at their site, since it's about a 10 minute drive from my building to my job. I did a search on their site, and no listing came up. that would come up was the same page where you submit your name and e-mail address so you can get updates, and there was no place there to click so you can preorder. Fortunately, there's a GameStop close enough to my building for me to walk to. When I got there, I might have been the sixth person to get on the line to preorder the SNES Classic. They started taking our information down for preorders in moments. They also said that they'd only be taking about ten preorders. So I should be good. Since I live in New York, my other option would have been to go down to the Nintendo NY store in Manhattan very early, on the day of its release, and I'd have probably gotten one. I'm actually still prepared to do that if one of the orders I placed doesn't go through. Somehow, I think GameStop is more likely to make good on my preorder. Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both. I actually arrived back at work from my break 30 minutes late. I texted my supervisor to tell her that I have an emergency, to which she replied "No problem, take your time". I read it to the guys standing next to me, and they told me I have a cool supervisor. I knew the preorders were supposed to go live later this month, but I didn't think they'd start as early as they did. I lucked out since I'll be going out of town this Saturday, and I don't know how the wi-fi is at the hotel where I'll be staying. |

Congrats, Storm Eagle! I'm happy for you!
I have given up on ever owning one of these at retail price. Even though I was checking all the retailer sites yesterday. I think Nintendo makes these products purely for online reviewers or scalpers and their robotic mass-purchase agents. https://www.cnet.com/news/nintendo-s...preorder-rant/ Hopefully, Star Fox 2 will be available for individual digital purchase on some system at some point.

GameStop tweeted that if you didn't get to preorder from them yesterday, that stores will get enough for walk-ins for when it's released. https://twitter.com/GameStop/status/900208450071916544 It would be nice if Star Fox 2 did become available from the eShop, but there's a reason that the first one still isn't. That was touched upon earlier in this thread, but it looks like there may be hope in the future. |

I also read GameStop will supposedly have some in stock in store on release day. Never got the NES classic but searched often for one. Couldn't let myself pay over retail. |

I know everybody hates those ThinkGeek "bundles" where they include a Nintendo Classic system with a bunch of their other backlog gimmicks at high prices. But I wouldn't mind owning a fully functional Mega Man helmet and ProtoMan blaster. But alas, even those listings sell out super fast.

I also succeeded at getting a BestBuy pre-order from the website.
If you don't have a pre-order, last year I was successful at getting the NES Classic by going to Target on launch day. I think I got there around 7:40 for the 8:00am store open. Was about 13th in line and they had about 24 systems. Honestly, I kind of felt bad considering how easily I was able to get it. I really only tried on a whim, going over to Target before work to see if it would be a possibility.

Nintendo now says that the SNES Classic will still be selling in 2018. Also, that the NES Classic will become available again.

Scalpers better hurry and scalp before Nintendo floods the market!
(If only.)

Yes (if only) indeed. I would love one of these but am not willing to pay over retail or jump through retailer hoops. I just wish Nintendo would put enough product on shelves that I could casually purchase one on some random weekend as I was buying eggs and milk.
