Hi

Name's Egon1982, i'm turning 37 and been a fan since i was 5 when the mini-series debuted and taped every episode of the series on CBS from 5 to 13 and i also remember Turtleamania in the late 80s and early 90s and all that.

I enjoy sci-fi, horror, action, fantasy, comedy, conventions, comics, books, reading, traveling, blackjack, games and all that. I'm a man who is a geek.

Welcome. I’ve been a tmnt fan since I was 3 or 4 when I started watching the original series on Rte Two in Ireland (was born in 1986). I used to tape the series a lot too.

I’m more of a comedy person, but I like a bit of the other genres you mentioned. My favourite TMNT character is Raphael as well along with Leonardo.

Why do shellheads born in the 1980s like to say Turtlemania occurred in the late 80s and early 90s?

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ruled the world from April () of 1990 to December of 1990.

We need Turtlemania ‘90 shirts, obviously.

Hi Egon,so many that register even if they do post in the introduction disappear. I hope that you will stick around this dark dwelling and share your insights. Its pretty cool that you saw the premiere airing of TMNT(1987)!

Well after the pilot, the series became a huge hit 31 years ago and had merchandise, food stuff and all.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were the kid fad of 1989 due to the syndicated Fred Wolf series reaching its peak in that year. Fads are short-lived, whereas crazes are not. Turtlemania of 1990 was launched by the release of the first live-action movie in that year. Suffice it to say, the actual TMNT craze never began in 1989 and ended in 1991 like some sources online will have you believe. The TMNT craze swept America and other countries in the year 1990 only.

1988 must have been a very successful year. It it hadn't been, season 3 would not have 47 episodes.

The Fred Wolf cartoon was getting there in the fall of 1988 into 1989. It’s likely that the creators of the show had high hopes for the cartoon also. A Fred Wolf Leonardo does appear on a July of 1989 issue of Cracked. The December of 1989 Mad Magazine cover with a generic Raphael on it was more memorable. Either way, the Turtles cartoon will be remembered by children of the very late 80s as a TV program that was popular for a short period of time in 1989. It’s similar to when Nickelodeon’s The Ren and Stimpy Show was followed enthusiastically by children of the early 1990s for a while in 1992.

The Turtles are best remembered as a very early 90s phenomenon because more people discovered them after the first live-action TMNT movie was in theaters.

I think most children already knew them well at that time.

Nickelodeon’s The Ren and Stimpy Show had an influence on cartoons after it and pop culture, whereas Tiny Toon Adventures and Batman the Animated Series did not.

I’m sorry, but that is not true. More children, teenagers, and adults knew the Turtles well after the first live-action film was shown in American movie theaters. As the website Den of Geek puts it, “In 1990 the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were at the absolute peak of their popularity.“

When did animated Batman not have an influence on other cartoons?

Can you please tell me when Batman the Animated Series ever had an influence on other cartoons first?

It was referenced in Warner Brothers cartoons, but that was it. Children of the mid 1990s were not bombarded with less obvious knockoffs of Batman the Animated Series in segments of cartoons on other channels like Ren and Stimpy fans were with Pinky and the Brain on the Animaniacs or Cow and Chicken on World Premiere Toons.

Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989 was the pop culture landmark, not Batman the Animated Series. There are only jumbo action figures by gentle giant, DC Collectibles toys, and Funko Pops for Batman the Animated Series for two reasons. There is an appreciation for the 1992 cartoon by comic book fans and children of the 90s and early 2000s alike. Lastly, the Kenner toy line was one of the best (if not the best) toy lines with cartoony-looking action figures to come out of the 1990s. Batman the Animated Series was not ever as successful as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nickelodeon’s The Ren and Stimpy Show, or Pokèmon.

It allowed action cartoons to be more violent, and darker.

How do you know that? Do you have any citations or are you going by the overall tone of the Red Sky seasons and the 4Kids TV cartoon? Why didn’t Fred Wolf Films switch over to the Red Sky theme in 1993 when Batman the Animated Series happy meal toys were at McDonald’s?
