Eccleston was wasted on a typical worthless one-bit MCU villain role.
Goldblum and actress who played Hel, in contrast, were not, so I have some hopes for this. Even though I don't think of Bale as a comedic actor.

It would honestly be a shame; Bale has an outspoken hatred of those kinds of movies and has sworn up and down that he'd never lower himself to do one. He's always prided himself on being a "serious" actor and not a CGI/motion capture Blockbuster Movie kinda guy.

Like, he'd be good in any role anyone wants to cast him in, because he's Christian Bale. But it would be sad to see him do a movie like this because it would basically be an admission of, "Yeah, I snorted all my Batman money and now I'm kind of stuck."

It would be kinda like how Sunny/Tammy Sytch refused to even pose for Playboy in her prime because she was "above" that, and then ends up doing buttsex porn in her middle-age because of her drug problems and legal fees. One part "Yay, finally!" mixed with two parts "Oof, that's actually sad they have to resort to this."

Though Bale is about at that age where he will probably want to start doing stuff that his kids will enjoy, or whatever. "Look at Daddy on screen looking like an alien next to Thor doing goofy things!" etc..

I enjoyed Ragnarok but I found it a bad direction to go in for Thor. I don't know that great things will come of this movie but mostly I am happy to see Portman brought back into things, and there's the possibility of heartstrings to be pulled with the cancer storyline.

I can't be the only one who kind of finds it offensive to people with cancer that we're gonna be doing a thing where someone gets "cured" of it or whatever by being given a magical hammer. Feels kind of irresponsible. Nobody asked me, but it's the first thing that comes to my mind regardless. "Sucks you have cancer, BUT now you're Thor, so don't worry about it!" That sounds awful on its face, but I guess execution is everything. I'm sure it'll be handled with more grace than that, or at least one would hope. That's just my knee-jerk reaction.

That's about where my thoughts begin and end on this. I only liked the first Thor movie and I generally hate everything this director does, so it's an easy pass for me. It's been at least ten years since everyone realized that Natalie Portman simply isn't that good an actress, so she alone isn't gonna be enough to get me to pay attention.

Fair point about Bale, though. I just hate when people get like that. "I know, I DID have principles... but I wanna make this parasite that fell out of my wife smile a few times before he grows up and starts telling me how bad I ruined his life. So now I'm a clown." It's so... sad.

Principles everywhere exist to be broken. Doubly so in Hollywood.

World will lose absolutely nothing, if Bale starts playing clowns.
And as a big fan of Thor: Ragnarok, it gives me hope to see Bale in a role which won't make me feel like turning off channel.
