For the U.S. released version of Sonic CD, I actually enjoy listening to Stardust Speedway (Present Time).

Robotnik's Boss Theme for the U.S. version of Sonic CD doesn't invoke so much the induced nightmare fuel feels for me as it used to, but it still sounds unsettling. (You actually get to hear Robo's Boss Theme in the hidden message -rumored to be- 'Fun Is Infinite With Sega Enterprises' within the game.)

However, I actually enjoyed listening to Final Fever for the EU / Japanese version of Sonic CD.

Collecting the emeralds in Sonic 3 (as Sonic) is way better. In Sonic 2, Tails just about screws up any and all attempts to collect enough rings just to earn an emerald. It remains difficult just to get the emeralds as Sonic without Tails.

It is easier for me to obtain all the emeralds in Sonic 2 as Knuckles, and I usually earn get them all within the first level.

What is this "rumored to be" line refer to? I could be reading this wrong, but it seems like you're referring to the translation? It's not exact but that's more or less what it says.

That is correct. Even though it is just a sentence created by one of the developers of the game with a quirky nickname, there was some confusion concerning that one message, and especially who created the message.

There was a certain rumor across the internet that if anyone found that message, then they owned a bootlegged copy of the game. I think that people eventually figured it out that they were getting worked up over a Sonic CD easter egg.

SO I beat Sonic 2 on the 3DS for the other day and unlocked the Super Sonic mode... he turns into Super Saiyan invincible mode and thus kills everything he touches and no one can harm him. That's not fun. So yeah **** getting all the emeralds in this game ever

Never knew there was a 3DS version. Could you use the emeralds in the final stage?

The first two Genesis Sonic games have 3DS remakes. You can get them off the eShop. They're pretty good and you can select which stages to start at. It's fun when I sometimes just feel like playing a certain stage.

I assume you can. In the Super Sonic mode you play the whole game as Super Sonic... or so I think. I turned off once I got past Chemical Plant zone with Super Saiyan Sonic.

I wish they did a 3DS remake of Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

Btw, what are the zones in Genesis Sonic games you guys never liked? I've never been a fan of Marble Zone and Labyrinth Zone in Sonic 1. Marble Zone is a tad boring and you don't even run much in there. As for Labyrinth Zone it's just frustrating since Sonic might drown if you're not careful. In Sonic 2 I don't like Aquatic Ruin Zone much. Hill Top Zone also feels a bit meh and Metropolis Zone can be relentlessly cheap. In Sonic 3 screw Marble Garden Zone.

If I could pick my favourite Genesis Sonic games zones and put them all in one game it'd be:

Green Hill Zone
Emerald Hill Zone
Chemical Plant Zone
Hydro City Zone
Spring Yard Zone
Oil Ocean Zone
Casino Night Zone
Star Light Zone
Scrap Brain Zone
Wing Fortress Zone

This would have been a pretty damn good game.

I never disliked most of the zones in the Genesis/Mega Drive games aside from Labyrinth Zone and Metropolis Zone. Labyrinth wasn't that bad for me, though. Metropolis was way more frustrating and the worst level ever, in my opinion.

I always thought Marble Zone was a terrible 2nd level followup to Green Hill but it has grown on me over the years. Spring Yard Zone was probably a pretty cool level in 1991 and was the template for the "pinball stage" but has since been eclipsed in almost every other Sonic game.

The programmers even said that they wanted Labyrinth Zone to be the 2nd zone but realised it was a bit too hard for a second zone, so they went with marble Zone instead. And also because they weren't too sure if the audience would like the game to be fast paced in every single level(remember it was the very first Sonic game) so they put a slower paced zone right after Green Hill so the "player wouldn't run out of breath".

Well I dunno how most players felt about it but I've never been a big fan of Marble Zone.

I know, I own all the Sonic Steam games but yeah I'd like some of the spin-offs as well like the ones on Sonic Gems collection, Knuckles Chaotix, Flicky, Shadow the Hedgehog, etc.

I especially think not having Shadow The Hedgehog, Colors and 06 being big losses as they're basically "main line" games. I've never played 06 but I doubt it's as bad as people make it out to be, it was just Sonic Adventure 3 which came out in 2006 but played like a game from 1999.

had no idea so many Sonic games were available on Steam's store.

Sonic Adventure 2 is available but not the first one?

What do you guys think about Sonic All Star Racing? I played a bit of it back in 2013 when it was free for the weekend on steam and... eh some of the cast choices were odd(football manager and shogun really?) but overall it was fun.

I'm a big fan of every Sonic All Star Racing game I've played.

I always thought it was weird, especially since all the advertising was "WOW SONIC IS SO FAST, HE'S FAST! SPEED! SPEED! BLAST PROCESSING!!" and whatnot to really set it apart from Mario. The Green Hill Zone had some parts to blast though and the loop the loop and all that good stuff.... then came the Marble Zone that went right back to taking your time, timing your jumps, avoiding the hazards and all that.... just like any other side-scroller at the time.

Yeah, even though Sonic 1 was fun, it definitely failed in this aspect. I never thought anything of it until I was older. Sonic 2 kinda fixed that problem...minus stages like Metropolis Zone, IMO.

Yeah, I know, right? The speed feels more like a gimmick and marketing strategy to show off Genesis' speed in comparison to SNES'. Other than that... it doesn't add much to the gameplay does it? When you're speeding through ramps and loops... all you do is watch Sonic rolling like a rock and catching rings.

It's kind of funny how Sonic games punish you so often for actually going fast. In Sonic 1 pretty much only Green Hill and Spring Yard are places to go fast and maybe Star Light Zone. Marble Zone? No way. Labyrinth zone... well it's underwater so no. Scrap Brain Zone? Yeah right, good luck not dying.

Metropolis Zone is a bit broken. A lot of times it seems you're gonna take a hit no matter what.

They released a first look at Classic Sonic's gameplay in Sonic Forces:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1wYD5b4VUw

Cons for me: it's once again Green Hill.
Pros for me: it looks pretty and the game play looks solid.

At least it's brighter than it was in Generations.
