You don't honestly NEED any more attention to the Batman corner of the DCU than that, you're covered. As is, there'd have to be 42 hours in a day and twelve days in a week just to have all of Batman's in-print adventures take place in any sort of continuity, if they were real. Too much!

Granted, they kept falling back on Brainiac, mostly, but... that's not really an issue, I like Brainiac. Up through the late-70s it was like every mook could find Kryptonite just laying around - indeed, a ton of old Silver Age Superman stories DID start out exactly that way, "Some Random Guy Finds Kryptonite" and we're off to the races. It was horrible. They finally got it to a good place with there only being so much of the stuff floating around, only to f*ck it up again because Geoff Johns and Mark Waid love Super-Friends way too much for not being at the age when it's appropriate to eat one's boogers. Thanks, guys!

For whatever reason, I feel like Gail's writing was at its best early on, before she became an "overnight success" and gained 300lbs. After that she caters way too much to the wokesters. I know she's always had certain sensibilities but they weren't always so damn blatant.

It's not so much that kryptonite is overused, I think it's more that the same type of kryptonite is used. Why is it almost always green?
There's like a few dozen types of kryptonite, use something else other than Green, red or blue Heck, bring the pink kryptonite back

I only really liked "Crisis of the Crimson Kryptonite" as it is because the whole thing was a gag and Mxyzptlk didn't pay enough attention to make "proper" Kryptonite for Lex in the first place (plus he only wanted to annoy Superman, not kill him). Thus it being red and taking Clark's powers away rather than killing or mutating him; it was entirely synthetic, and also magical, so the miscoloring and improper effects made sense. Too much of a cartoon gimmick. Doesn't seem very practical or in any way tethered to reality. "Green Kryptonite causes intense radiation sickness and death, it just happens to work much faster on Kryptonians due to their unique genetic make-up but will eventually kill anyone who touches it. It was created by the chain reaction in Krypton's core which eventually led to it blowing up." All of that at least makes SOME kind of sense. The "a color and effect for everything in the entire box of crayons" just seems like some First-Grader type storytelling. I hate it. I always hated it. "Black Kryptonite brings out your Dark Side, or can literally create an Evil Doppelganger!" Oooooooh EDGY! Barf. Someone who works at Hot Topic came up with that idea, I guarantee it.

I kinda always had issues with her personal philosophy going back to the stupid "Women In Refridgerators" essay. Talk about having one's heart in the right place but their head squarely jammed up their ass.
Essentially, you can never write about a Bad Thing happening to a woman, especially not at the hands of a man, because by default it's sexist and "attacking women". Bad Things can only happen to women in fiction if an ENTIRE arbitrary checklist of criteria is adhered to. Woman has to write the story, female character can't be married or in a relationship with a guy, the person doing the Bad Thing to the female character can't be a male, and on and on and ON. Otherwise it's sexist. "It's sexist because the female character is seen as being in a relationship with the man, therefore she's just an appendage. It's sexist because a bad thing is only written to happen to the female in order to motivate the heroic male character. It's sexist because having a male character do a Bad Thing to a fictional female character encourages actual violence against women in real life. It's sexist because men write these stories and it comes from a place of wishful thinking and they're just getting back at the girls who wouldn't date them in high school." Howwwwww aboooooout.... people just write whatever they want, and we leave the armchair psycho-analyzing to people like Freud, and NOT a former hairdresser, mmmmmmkaaaaaay? Part of why I would NEVER write for money - even though I really like to write - is because I would NEVER want to have to adhere to a Checklist. That's not "art" and it's not creative. Art doesn't have "Rules". Guidelines, maybe, at best. But absolutely NO "You can't do this/You have to do this" nonsense. That's stupid.

I had to do a couple of those as part of a group thing I did a few years back. Wasn't bad, I actually kind of liked the challenge of it. Forced me to think of things I wouldn't have otherwise. I don't remember any specific exercises but I have them in a folder somewhere. Kinda fun in that context, but I get what you mean.

AOL buying out Time-Warner and absorbing Ted Turner's companies was a disaster for the various properties. How did it effect DC specifically? Mile High's newsletter caught my eye with the headline DC Fires Its Staff!. Layoffs would be more accurate. Didio was fired but not Harras and these others. Here is an excerpt from Chuck's newsletter:
So what is going to happen to DC Comics? Probably not much that is good. They will eventually be sold for scrap, with someone picking up their creative library and trademarks on the cheap. In the meantime, they will still publish a few titles, but with the people who were the heart and soul of the company now unemployed, I doubt if they will ever return to their glory of year's past, before this endless series of profoundly stupid corporate masters gutted their creativity. Sadly, this truly is, paradise lost. DC will survive this its just a question of what form will the comic company be in as time progresses. I barely paid attention to AT&T buying Time- Warner and now I wonder if it will be worse than the ill fated AOL buyout.

Even if it's true, they produce so much stuff that it's hard for me to complain.
I don't mean to negate your criticism, I'm just saying that for me, there is so much awesome DC material out there, whether that's movies, comics, or whatever, that I have no reason to complain. If we are just talking film, then maybe my lack of criticism is due to not being bothered by the frequency of releases. I just know that I'm not mad at the studio that gave me Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, BvS, Joker, HBO's Watchmen etc. all in the last decade or so. Go ahead and break one hundred eggs as long as a steady (enough for me) supply of omelettes are coming along. And again, it's true that I find the majority of their recent films to be complete and utter stinkers, but I just ignore them and make sure there is something else that appeals to me coming soon, and luckily there always is (Reeve's Batman and Gunn's SS seem to be right on track, for example). You didn't like "Shazam"? I thought it was pretty good. I expected to groan and roll my eyes quite often but came away very pleasantly surprised.
I mean, I'm just assuming based on what you said about their "recent" movies. That counts as fairly recent, to me, so I wasn't sure. It had a few issues but I gave it high marks. Actually the only thing I can remember that seriously pissed me off recently was BoP, and I only saw clips. I saw enough of it to know I shouldn't watch the whole thing.

Actually, I haven't watched Shazam, but maybe I'll get around to that soon. I think I might like it.

I think BOP pissed off a ton of hardcore DC Fans. That Jurnie chick still wants to play fake black canary again in movies and I wish she would **** off and let the real BC get played on screen

Maybe she is upset that people still think of her as Denise Frazer from her two seasons on Full House before her family's failed sitcom. Not only was the look of Black Canary wrong the whole character seemed off. I understand that films take liberties with characters to fit their vision, but the core of the character is almost always still present. From the snippets I saw Birds of Prey did not do that at all. Mr. Zsasz has Gotham to fall back on, but Black Mask has two episodes of The Batman?
