Rap today

This is what I'm talking about. wtf is this?

A song about a cuck who knows his girlfriend is cheating on him, but wants to urge her to keep doing it, but just don't do it at the house.

This is what rap's come to now? Really?

I thought the Weeknd's first album was an absolute masterpiece of music. It's terrific, through and through. After that his radio hits have been really good, but I haven't been compelled to pick up and album after that first one.

Starboy was one of those records that had a time and a place and it dropped right when it should have. It was mechanically and structurally sound and even the track listing was built correctly for the album. It reminds me a lot of Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories" as far as indisputable masterpiece albums go.

On that note, "Random Access Memories" is getting a limited anniversary "Drumless" release on vinyl and CD. I have a solid record collection, but it's becoming too cumbersome - I'll probably order the CD.

I guess you haven't heard Pound Town yet if you think that's the low for this past year.

But it's "shocking" in entirely culturally different ways than, say the 90s or early 2000s. That was about getting money, b**ches, beating up people and possibly shooting people and fighting cops. Now, it's "Please honey, when you cheat on me, do it somewhere other than the house." wtf??

Is this an evolution? No, it's SAD.

I was never a huge fan of rap and even had a phase where I honestly hated the genre for the most part.

But honestly, rap peaked with gangsta rap. Even though its lyrics and themes didn't seduce me or appeal to me, that stuff is way better than most of the popular rap songs of today.

Those types of lyrics are cringey for sure but I can think of several similar examples in Hip Hop, RnB or Reggae from 20 years ago, like Shaggy‘s „It wasn‘t me“ or John Legend‘s „She don‘t need to know“. It‘s not really new.

Speaking of rap…

Oh, snap

They even had Mikey on stage. A lot of TMNT fans are gonna just seethe over this. Bad move, Vanilla
