Stellar Blade
Has anyone played this? What's the consensus on it? From what I gather it's a rookie Korean developer who wants to "bring beauty" back to video games and show the world that Korea is capable of making top notch games. I'm of two minds about it. #1, shut up, brain, it's a gorgeously rendered woman and it all looks fairly oogleable. And fun. #2, how in the world can I take this character seriously? This person intricately does all these little lace things, puts on tons of makeup, wears big stilettos, but is the best swordsman ever? And she has zero muscle. One swipe from one of those robo-Giger things and she'd be broken.

It's an action/combat game like Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden mixed with Dark Souls. If you don't like "hard" action games this may not be for you. I haven't played it yet but it's a pretty good game.

She's a cyborg of sorts. She doesn't necessarily need muscle. Those robo-Gigers things can't match her strength, speed and agility.

Normally it wouldn't be too terrible big deal. However, it was that way it was in Asia and the game was sold to America on an Anti-censorship/Anti-Sweet Baby stance. It boiled down to deceptive marketing as they promised no censorship. |

I have this game coming in the mail. Hopefully it's not too hard, but a mix of Dark Souls with Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden is basically what it's described as. These action games always have really tough bosses, they're meant to be throwbacks to the old 8-bit and 16-bit bosses that were hard to kill and you die in like 2-3 hits until you memorize their patterns.

I'm more concerned it's too easy/too simple.

I finished the game, it took about 20 hours but I didn't do all the sidequests which seemed repetitive. The game is fun and gets hard during the last 3 bosses, but if you upgraded all your skills you have a lot of stuff to do. There's also an easy mode you can switch to if you can't get past a boss.
Fun game. I cycled through about 10 outfits in the game but barely noticed anything worth caring about. |
