35th anniversary of the Nintendo Gameboy
I forgot posting this in April, so I do it now instead, in time for the release in North America instead. Mid 2024 marks the 35th anniversary of the Nintendo Gameboy. The console that gave us Kirby and Pokémon.
It was first launched in Japan on 21 April 1989, later in North America on 31 July the same year, followed up by being launched in Europe on 28 September 1990 and in South Korea on 2 May 1991. It was eventually discontinued on 31 March 2003. While replacing the Game & Watch, it was later in turn replaced with the Gameboy Color (October 199, Gameboy Advance (March 2001) and finally the Gameboy Advance (February 2003). April 1989. It is a dark time for Sega. Although the Sega Mega Drive–Genesis has been developed, Nintendo programmers in Japan have developed a portable video game console, and challenged Sega across the planet. Its amazing how the most successful Gameboy games of all time were released nearly a decade after the portable console's release.

When I was younger, I only played portable video games in department stores and shopping malls. |

The original Gameboy killer app was Tetris. It literally debuted with the system. I think if you weren't around in the 80's or early 90's people have no idea how big Tetris was back then.
