Hasbro Reviving MicroNauts, MASK, And Action Man

From a conference call earlier today

Right jolly old elf

My brother used to collect Action Man...not one of them kept their trousers on

We've had a few scraps of M.A.S.K now and then, with the Matt Tracker toy released during an anniversary year for G.I Joe (Hasborn tied M.A.S.K into Joe/TF continuity at that point), just give us a new animated series out of this please.

Under a new deal between the studio and Hasbro's Allspark Pictures, G.I. Joe will join up with characters from the Micronauts, Visionairies, M.A.S.K. and ROM brands.

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are embarking on a new universe of interrelated characters and stories. The studio — which is already in the process of expanding its Transformers universe after four movies based on that popular Hasbro toy line — is announcing a new deal with Hasbro on Tuesday that will see Paramount and Allspark Pictures, Hasbro’s film label, build an interconnected, cross-property onscreen universe, featuring characters from five of Hasbro’s other brands: G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionairies, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) and ROM.

Allspark Pictures will produce the films, and Brian Goldner, Hasbro chairman, president and CEO, Hasbro exec vp and chief content officer Stephen Davis, Hasbro head of film development Josh Feldman are working with Paramount to shape the new universe from the five properties. Just as has been done with Transformers, where Akiva Goldsman led a writers’ room to develop further installments in that franchise, Hasbro and Paramount plan to assemble a writers’ room, comprised of top talent, to develop a creative roadmap.

The Transformers franchise has grossed more than $3.8 billion to-date, and the two G.I. Joe movies Paramount has released, in 2009 and 2013, have grossed more than $675 million worldwide.

"Paramount and Hasbro have had a longstanding relationship and we're proud of the success we've enjoyed on the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises,” Brad Grey, Paramount chairman and CEO, said in announcing the deal. "We're excited to grow our agreement and make even more movies based upon these popular and powerful Hasbro characters and their worlds."

“Hasbro and Allspark Pictures put storytelling at the center of everything that we do. These brands are filled with memorable stories and vivid characters, and this universe creates a framework for how they will become interconnected,” Goldner added. “Extending our partnership with Paramount allows us to continue our long-term strategy and overall vision to build dynamic worlds for all of our brands, and we are thrilled to collaborate with them as we develop these properties.”

WME’s Rob Carlson represented Hasbro in the deal.

The 90's Action Man was amazing, he was James Bond, Rambo and Batman in one package. Fighting Dr. X and Professor Gangrene. You can go a long way creating a OC out of Duke from GI Joe and rebrand the toy.

Hasbro has put together an impressive group of writers for its cinematic universe writers room. The team will work together to create an interconnected universe for G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) and ROM. The names include:

– Michael Chabon (Spider-Man 2, novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay)
– Brian K. Vaughn (Y The Last Man, Saga)
– Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel)
– Lindsey Beer (Lionsgate’s upcoming Kingkiller Chronicle)
– Cheo Coker (Luke Cage showrunner)
– John Francis Daley & Johnathan Goldstein (Spider-Man: Homecoming)
– Joe Robert Cole (American Crime Story: People vs. OJ Simpson, Black Panther)
– Jeff Pinkner (adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower)
– Nicole Riegel (Blacklist script Dogfight)
– Geneva Robertson (upcoming Tomb Raider reboot)

Akiva Goldsman will oversee the room on behalf of Hasbro and Paramount. He will also executive produce all of the films. He has a similar role for Hasbro’s Transformers writers room. Hasbro’s film label Allspark Pictures will produce, as will Hasbro chairman and CEO Brian Goldner and executive vice president/CCO Stephen Davis. Hasbro head of storytelling Josh Feldman will co-executive produce. The first meeting will be held Monday at Paramount, the studio that worked Hasbro on both the Transformers and G.I. Joe movies. Hasbro artists will also be at the meeting to draw concepts and characters.

Davis said: “We first and foremost put together a list of writers who we wanted to be in business with and could be the world-builders that we needed. But we want to be sure that in the room we have diverse perspectives, diverse backgrounds and diverse experiences.”

One of the plans is to make properties like G.I. Joe and M.A.S.K. more inclusive after traditionally skewing towards male audiences.

Davis added: “Female empowerment is a central theme through a lot of these properties and one of the reasons we wanted diverse voices.”

Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey said: “Bringing together a writers room of this caliber is a bold step for our partnership, and one that we believe is critical for building these brands into new, successful franchises for the future.”

I wonder if this will open up the possibility of a GI Joe/Transformers crossover movie, there is a lot of potential for that.

Hasbro's All-Spark Slate for 2020 through to 2021. M.A.S.K is absent, instead replaced by another My Little Pony Movie

Oh man, D&D 2021. But can it top the perfection that is the first movie with Bruce Payne as the best villain of all cinema. Or The Book of Vile Darkness movie with the best depiction of a Mindflayer

I would prefer a D&D movie based on the 80's cartoon.

So I take it the G.I.Joe movie is a reboot?

M.A.S.K. has an interesting concept, but is hardly my first choice of an 80's cartoon I would like to see made into a live action movie.

Yes, yes, YES!!!

And don't forget that absolutely AMAZING beholder in the first, too. Or any of the many magical items shown, or.... Y'know what? I want to go watch those again now.

I could get behind this. It would make for an awesome movie, to be sure. But only if they have Uni in it. And who would play Erik?? (Or any of them, really.)

If they don't creat another Mask film I won't complain, I loved the 90s film too much to want another one.
