Would you play through a remake of the NES Game?

When the official TMNT Instagram page posted this image, for a second I thought they were announcing a re-imagined version of the original TMNT NES game.

As difficult as this game was, would you play through a re-imagined version? I'd personally be all for it!

The action-adventure concept is at least interesting.

They'd have to fix one or two of those stupid jumps. If so, then I guess so, maybe.

"Danger of the Ooze" or whatever, the second Nick game, was already very similar to the original NES game in a lot of ways. Felt like a spiritual successor.

That's the only TMNT game worth revisiting... so yes, I guess.

I would totally play a remake of it. If they didn't make it as difficult as the original was.

If they:

1) fix the jumping controls;
2) balance the Turtles better by this time making Raphael and Michelangelo ACTUALLY useful and not just turtles to sacrifice in the dam(n) level while saving Donatello for boss fights and tougher enemies;
3) get rid of respawning enemies sh*t just because you mistimed a f*cking jump;
4) Get rid of tricky jumps close to the ceiling;
5) Add like a 4 second post-hit invincibility after you get hit by an enemy, so that you don't lose a turtle in about 5 seconds while being cornered by enemies.

...then maybe.

This game had a great concept and ideas on paper, but was poorly executed.

"Re-Shell" Konami's Ultra game, oh yeah I'd play the hell out of it.

Didn't Turtles in Time Re-shelled kinda bomb?

I guess it'd be tough to make the first ever TMNT NES more hated. It's 2019. A lot of its problems are due to the game having been a product of a time where it was hard to make difficulty in games fair and non-glitchy.

Improved graphics sure, but the remake must be every bit as difficult and frustrating.

Maybe even more.

Shredder could've done more than blow up the Channel Six building. I don't mean as far as murdering Splinter, but think of the possibilities if censors were not an issue.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

Not completely, but I think that the NES tmnt game would lose its magic if its re-made to be much easier.

Or maybe make a better game, but include a bonus option to go into "Old school mode", where the games' difficulty is like the original.

I'm not sure what the numbers looked like, but I personally enjoyed Re-Shelled very much. It was smooth, had a fun style, and enough of a nostalgia kick to make however many Microsoft points I had to spend to get it well worth the purchase.

If the NES game were to get similar treatment, I'd definitely want them to introduce some better checkpoints (seem to remember that there were some checkpoints in a few places). Like, perhaps right before some of those blasted jumps, or at varying points in the dam level.

Yeah. I guess there's just not an audience in 2019 for dated, two-button-mashing Final Fight clones.

Oh, now I see what you mean. I respectfully disagree, since that game's difficulty wasn't particularly charming or magic.

Well, perhaps "bombed" wasn't the best adjective. I meant, most people seemed to dislike it.

Neither it was back when it came out, which was... 2009 or so?

Turtles in Time is a fun game, but it's a bit overrated. I dunno why some people say it's the best beat 'em up ever. I wonder if it's because they were influenced by Screwattack's opinion on the game? TiT is a good game and all, but I think Streets of Rage and Final Fight at their best were better games overall.

I will agree to the awesomeness of Streets if Rage. Would love to see Sega re-visit that property.

This was my first thought. I have a lot of fond memories yelling at that game. I think I finally beat the underwater part sometime in my 20's. It didn't get any easier after that, though.

But imagine the first game reimagined in 3D. With added light RPG elements.

I beat the dam(n) level when I was 17 or so. Tbh that level isn't actually that bad, so it's kinda strange how most people who played the game couldn't get past it. All you need is a bit of patience and knowing how to cycle through your turtles carefully.

The furthest I've gotten was to the airport level.
