James Gunn Writing Suicide Squad 2

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/he...edium=referral

Hollywood Reporter confirms he is writing

Gunn has closed a deal to pen the script. At this stage, there is no director deal but talks could proceed depending on the outcome.

By the time DC learn how to do a Marvel movie right, Marvel will have put out a DC movie done right. Hell I'd say Winter Solider, Civil War, and Infinity War are close to that already.

Hm... Interesting...
  1. His non-PC jokes are brought to attention.
  2. Disney gets rid of him for it.
  3. Starts working for WB on a sequel to a financially successful but critically panned movie.

From that we can assume he won't have any "Ghost" involvement on GotG3, being busy and all. What also interests me here is that despite SS being financially successful, they don't bring the previous writer/director back, do they believe it'll make even more money if they have a more respectable name attached?

I also can't help but wonder about a potential connection between GotG3 being put on hold and the success of Venom. While Venom is hardly a critical success, it has might quite the pretty so far, proving that Venom actually does have mainstream appeal when divorced from Spider-Man. Plans to eventually include Venom in a Spider-Man movie were almost certain, but now they know for sure they don't really need Spider-Man for Venom. In theory, they might alter GotG3 to include Venom.

Its not a sequel

Studio sources say that James Gunn is not developing a #SuicideSquad “sequel” but a brand new take on the DC property

Oh, reboot of the movie that isn't 5 year old yet?
Par for the course for the modern Hollywood and DC.

Doesn't sound like a "reboot" just not a direct sequel. Likely, some characters will be swapped out for others and there's going to be no real connective tissue from this movie from the last.

My guess anyways.

This is honestly just hilarious to me. Not only did he rebound to a DC movie, but to a follow-up to Guardians Lite? The irony is unreal.

Yeah, the equivalent of what G.I. Joe: Retaliation was to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is what I'd expect IF this even materializes. Watch them even throw The Rock in there as Black Adam, to boot.

I doubt that James Gunn directing a new Suicide Squad means that it will be like the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. If anything. I can see this new take be more in line to his previous work. Before the Guardian movies. He's done movies that were more on the dark and twisted side of things. Super and Slither.

Suicide Squad are a team of Supervillains. So he can get all dark and twisted with them.

Its official now. James Gunn will write the new Suicide Squad movie. But they did not say if he's going to direct it.
