Volume 4, as it stands, is still one giant cocktease. Say what you will about it, but stuff was getting really interesting.

I kind of wish someone would just get the premise/plot ideas from Laird and do a faster and more competent job scripting it.

Woo-hoo! Success!

Here's the final cover:

And a note from Dan on www.miragelicensing.com:

This is the final issue of Tales volume two and the story is tied directly into TMNT volume one #19, #20 and #21. What seems like a million years ago now, Andrew Modeen asked if we had any plans to utilize the same cover motif from those isses for the last issue of Tales volume two. I don't remember if we'd discussed it here (I don't recall that we did, but my memory blows) - regardless, it was a cool idea. However, it would muck up the continuity of the series' covers using such a drastically different format. So we hemmed and hawed a little bit and when it was finally time to send the issue to Brenner Printing, Eric Talbot came to what we think is a logical conclusion - just do a flip cover and use both versions! So the last issue of the book will also be the first issue (I think) where we use a flip cover for the series. We went with the classic RTNY cover style for the actual cover because there was no room for the UPC that had to go on the back cover. So thanks Andrew for the cool suggestion! This is a nice way to put a cap on the series and Mirage Publishing in general (although Mirage may do some more TMNT comic projects in the future, nothing is set in stone at the moment). As always, thank you very much for the decades of support - we couldn't have done it without you!

OH YEAH!

Thanks for getting the idea to Mirage, Andrew. Really cool that they took the suggestion to heart.

Right down to the "Book 1.5". Really, really cool of them to run with that.

The only thing that would be cooller at this point is if they printed it on the old newsprint, not the current glossy paper.

I love how Dan said, "Mirage may do more TMNT comics in the future, although nothing is set in stone."

C'mon, we need to get the climax of Volume 4 at some point. Just finish that damn series already, PL said he wanted to wrap it up in 6 issues.

If memory serves, he said it could be wrapped up in 6 issues, not that he wanted it be done in such.

I'm really glad they also went the a new (or is it really "old") font for the title. It harkens back to Tales of TMNT Volume 1 and meshes much more nicely with the other Return to New York issues. And the touched up color looks great as well!

As others have said, well done ,Andrew, for your enduring influence with the TMNT comic franchise!

I'm glad they went with it as well, shame they couldn't get Eastman to do the cover art.

+100 points. I agree. The entire issue should have been an Eastman/Laird Collabo in my honest opinion. I know that wouldn't of happened (& obviously it didn't) but I digress.

Nah, it should've been Lawson on pencils and Eastman on inks, just like in #21. "Return to New York" was just as much, if not more Jim Lawson's baby than either Peter or Kevin alone... Lawson definitely ought to be in the mix there.

Peter ought to have done up the cover.

I kinda hope they don't do a frontispiece in this issue.

The frontispiece has already been shown on Dooney's Deviantart-

Spoiler:

" This is the splash page that I drew for the last issue of Tales of the TMNT (#70). I colorized it in Photoshop for fun. I can hear Raphael in my head saying,'Next?' "

Great news about the flip cover. Gonna haveta buy two - one to stick in with vol 1, and one to stick in with Tales.

I take it everyone has seen the previews for this book? I think i've figured out what i've been missing* from Lawson's art: duoshading. It looks really, really, really awesome.

*Must say though, i'm a massive Lawson fan. But the duoshading just seems to take it to another level.

The duoshading makes a world of difference. Without it, Lawson's stuff really does tend to look like a "coloring book", to put it crudely.

Still not the same look or feel as the vintage RTNY issues, but it is much prettier than Lawson's latest efforts.

And good to see it isn't just a Raph vs. Zog fight. Some Foot stuff in there to break up the monotony. Looking forward to this!

The final cover is kick-ass and a great testament to the fact that Mirage's core members did care about the fans. Serves as a great last hurrah.

I remember showing my tmnt comics to a friend and she thought that they were coloring books.
