Hmm. One of my wife's favorite characters, so that's kind of a bummer. Definitely not a surprise, though.

With a budget that "low" it doesn't sound like it would have aimed very high, anyway. Although it's not like there's a gigantic league of Red Sonja fans. Maybe 10+ years ago when her book was kinda hot. I get that every studio wants its own "Wonder Woman" now but I don't know if they could have done it without coming off like a retread.

Sorry for being suspicious, but we live in an era where a lot of misinformation is being spread all over the media, and a lot of that misinformation is by smaller and lesser known media outlets and websites or by places such as Breitbart, so I was wondering if the link you originally shared could be one of those without you knowing it, so I asked just to be sure. It's a controversial opinion, but I've always wondered about that myself. Like ever since I was a kid, I had the theory that part of the reason why priests were always getting caught with little boys was because they were secretly gay, closeted and self-loathing, and since they weren't "allowed" to just Be Gay, they felt compelled to act out on those urges with the only type of males they would be able to silence and control. I'm sure there are other reasons - most of these people were typically abused as kids, themselves, for one thing - but that theory always made sense to me.

Some people find that theory abhorrent, claiming that it demonizes homosexuals, or at least that's what some people tell me, but the way I see it, it really does more to condemn the environment that forces people into the closet. I know that I have no problem with gay people at all; I just feel like a mixture of persecution and mental illness could be to blame, sometimes. I'm sure there's no one singular reason this happens.

I have a lot of friends in the LGBTQ culture. They really dislike the argument that priests are just frustrated homosexuals acting out in a secretive way. Not because it demonizes homosexuality outright, but because it fails to make the distinction between homosexuality and pedophilia.

There's plenty of gay men out there who grew up oppressed that didn't turn out this way. The circumstances of their upbringing were unfortunate, and their family ties have been severed, but it's not as though they feel the need to prey on children to fulfill their sexual desires.

There's a solid argument to be made that this is a great haven for pedophiles rather than homosexuals. The same goes for instances in other professions where men are left alone with children.

It's alarming how often a school has some dark history involving teachers sexually abusing kids. But it's not like I haven't studied under or met teachers who were either closeted or openly gay. And to date I haven't heard anything of them being predators.

So does it demonize homosexuals? I'd say to an extent. The same extent that if boys weren't allowed to date girls when they were younger, they'd turn into pedophile rapists when they get older. A poor upbringing isn't a recipe for a specific kind of mental illness, just a factor in developing it.

Homosexuality isn't considered a mental illness (anymore (to my knowledge)). Pedophilia, however, is definitely viewed as a psychological issue. And very disturbing and dangerous one at that.

OK, something seems to be wrong with the link, so I'll just assume McKellen's statement doesn't go much deeper than that and that it means "young boys are less likely to out them".

I guess that's possible? But if it was that simple, why not just get male prostitutes who'll likely keep their mouths shut about their clients anyway? I don't see why you have to go after young boys if that's an option.
