Top 10 Christmas Movies
When I mean Christmas movies, I'm referring to the ones that are Christmas themed...not ones that take place during the month of December. I'm well aware that Die Hard takes place on Christmas, but the central focus isn't ON Christmas lol. That being said, what are your top 10 movies?
1. Jingle All The Way 2. Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever 3. Christmas with the Kranks 4. The Santa Clause 5. Deck The Halls 6. Santa's Little Helper 7. Home Alone 8. Krampus 9. Black Christmas

10. MST3K: Santa Claus Conquerors the Martians
9. Rankin-Bass Little Drummer Boy (would be higher if I had seen it more) 8. Rankin-Bass Frosty 7. Rankin-Bass Rudolph 6. A Christmas Story 5. That One Version of A Christmas Carol I saw in high school 4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Chuck Jones version) 3. Muppet Christmas Carol 2. Disney Christmas Carol 1. Santa Claus is Coming to Town And now...to gush on Santa Claus is Coming to Town because it's the movie I look forward to seeing the most at Christmas time. Between that and "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus", it's the better movie to me. And weirdly, of all the Rankin-Bass Christmas movies, it's the one that takes itself pretty seriously. I like its somber tone (appropriate since one of the main locations is literally called "Somber Town"), but not so much that edgelords can get themselves into a tizzy about how "dark and serious" it is. Because even with that, it still has the warmth it needs for a "Santa Origin Story". The fact that he just stops the Winter Warlock with the power of generosity is just absolutely comical, especially since he's the reason why Chris' biological mother gave him up in the first place. "I'll kill you for trespassing!" "Oh I'm so sorry about that, good sir! Would you like this toy and my friendship?" "...Yes please." Also for some reason, I get just a little bit emotional during the wedding scene, because damn, what a way to get married on the run. There's one particular version of A Christmas Carol I haven't seen since high school drama class, but I want to see it again. Mostly because during the Christmas Future segment, there was a beautiful sequence in a prison (wherein a prisoner was playing Silent Night on a whistle or something) that just blew my tiny little 15 year old mind and I can't remember for the life of me which one it was.

Ah yeah, I remember that one. Pretty sure that one hit closer to the book than anything else, complete with ALL of Scrooge's Christmas-based traumas.
(I got pretty p!ssed at my classmates in the reading of the "scripted" version of one of the plays because nobody knew the words to the "All the Pretty Little Horses" lullaby, and I still don't know why it's there, but I didn't care since it's was one of my favorites)

1. Home Alone. I grew up watching it every Black Friday and it is a hit with multiple generations of youth to this day.
2. A Christmas Story. So many classic moments from the pink bunny pajamas to the leg lamp to sticking the tongue on the pole to beating up the bully to "oh fudge" to "shooting his eye out" after all the warnings. 3. Its a Wonderful Life- A concept that goes beyond Christmas and captures it so well. 4. Elf- The last Christmas great. Sure a few movies ceneted around Christmas up to about 13,but nothing memorable. So stupid yet so funny and like others on my list very quotable! Ferrell's second film(?) was his best performance. 5.National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation-the only Vacation film that was not raunchy in humor and only one I truly like. It has a few memorable moments with quirky goof Clark and Cousin Eddie. Honorable Mention: 6. The Grinch- The origin story of The Grinch as depicted by Ron Howard and portrayed by Jim Carray. The character became an anti-hero and sympathetic. Well done! Underrated special: Rudolph & Frosty: Christmas In July 1979 Rankin-Bass film. It takes place after Rudolph's Shiny New Year and Frosty's Winter Wonderland as shown by Crystal being present ( and addition to a son and daughter snowpeople) and Big Ben. Its corny and aimed at elementary school kids. I saw it when ABC Family started the 25 Days of Christmas in the mid 2000s' and even though I was in high school I appreciated it. I liked the Rudolph meets Frosty concept (though they already knew each oter and were friends). The only thing more interesting would be The Grinch taking away the commercialism from The Peanuts gang.

Wow, no one even mentions my all-time favorite....
So, in order from most to least faveorite- 1. White Christmas. Bing and Danny gave us my all-time favorite Christmas movie ever, and I LOVE that finale with the beautiful set, Christmas gowns, and opening the barn to see the snow falling. Bing's greatest holiday hit song is given its best and most memorable version, which is also among my fave holiday songs. 2. Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Nuff said here- hands down the best Vacation movie, and SOOO funny! The cat and the squirrel scenes with the Christmas tree are just- I have no words.... 3. Scrooged. One of Bill Murrey's best roles, and a hilarious "modern" take on A Christmas Carol. The Christmas Present "fairy" is my favorite part. Also, some of the fake tv spots are incredibly apt and funny. 4. Home Alone. The original, though the second one has some lovely heartfelt moments as well. A staple that I love watching. 5. Miracle On 34th Street. The classic original, which I think is the best version. 6. Frosty the Snowman. I love this animated special, it's probably one of the few "kid" Christmas movies I enjoy. 7. Prancer. Don't know why, but this one always gives me feels. Maybe it's the animal lover in me. Or just the idea of actually finding one of Santa's team.... 8. Ernest Saves Christmas. Yes, it's kind of goofy, but it was the best of the "Ernesr" movies for several reasons, mainly that it was a bit less dumb, had some genuine feeling to it, and the idea that Santa's mantle gets passed down, long before Tim Allen did it! 9. The Santa Clause. Speaking of Tim.... Fun movie, a lot of heart, and great visual gags. We all wish Santa could be our dad.... 10. How the Grinch Stole Christmas. My other favorite animated/"kiddie" Christmas classic. I have fond memories of reading my Dr. Seus books long past the age they are meant for, and this one being brought to life made me really happy. Still does.

Ernest Saves Christmas is definitely one of his better ones, but let's not overlook "Ernest Goes To Camp", which was also pretty heartfelt, and has an awesome soundtrack.
I'd say they're pretty even. I, personally, think "...Goes To Camp" is superior, for several reasons, but I understand why "...Saves Christmas" is most peoples' sentimental favorite. "Scrooged" is my favorite. I doubt I could think of 10. The He-Man/She-Ra Christmas Special is definitely way up there.

I noticed that there are less and less Christmas movie offerings every year. Not only that nothing that can be considered a Christmas classic. Since Polar Express (2004) has there been any notable Christmas movie? There was Aurthur Christmas and Fred Clause, in 2011 and 2012 but I don't think either caught on. Why has Hollywood stopped trying to put out holiday films and regulate it to a sappy Hallmark television movie? Thoughts?
