Hmm. Maybe this should be called the "Retro Game Collecting Thread." I mean, with people discussing the Wii U, what's to keep it from being exactly the same as the "General Discussion/Latest Purchases" thread?

Yeah, I agree. Discussion of the Wii U doesn't belong in this thread at all.

I want one. Looks goddamn mint. No yellowing or what not. Probably to make up for all the spiders inside. |

Yeah, I'm really happy with it. Got it for a good price and the games came as throw-ins, so that was really nice of the guy. Now I've gotta buckle down on my Famicom want list and get some of the more interesting stuff in. Akumajo special boku Dracula-kun has to be my first get.

Oh, how melancholy I do get when eBay auctions boast "FREE SHIPPING," but only within the United States. Inevitably, Canadian shipping is something obscene, like $15.
*sigh* I grow weary. Well, how about that. Judge Dredd for the SNES actually looks and sounds pretty damn decent. It's got some nice retro cachet, as far as I'm concerned. Looks like another one to track down. |

Unlike the NES, you're way more likely to find a game surprisingly playable on the SNES. Honestly, the only SNES game I've ever thought was truly awful was Spider-Man and X-Men: Arcade's Revenge. What a mess of a game.
My current SNES game want is Hagane, but the price for it is obscene, as is to be expected out of any of those Blockbuster only games. I'm thinking of just getting the Super Famicom version, which still isn't cheap, especially boxed, but is probably the best alternative. |

Also: I finally bought it. ...Because it's a fair price ($25 before shipping). And it's my birthday today. And I just recently got a hundred and fifty bucks from my income tax return. And I goddamn want it. So, let us celebrate... ...WITH SOME F*CKIN' TUNES. Last edited by Ecto Jedi; 05-18-2013 at 08:36 AM. |

Nice work, man! Have fun with that and Happy Birthday! I found a copy of Judge Dredd for $9 shipped if you're interested.

Super Star Wars for $8.99 is a great deal but I once downloaded Super Return of the Jedi for the Virtual Console and, well, wasn't much impressed. I don't know. Maybe I'd prefer the original? Quote:
Battletoads & Double Dragon is amazing, too, but I'm naturally not as familiar with it for the simple fact that I only played it a few times on a rented console and much later on through computer emulators. Still a classic. We'll see where it actually ranks on the pantheon when I spend some decent time with it. Last edited by Ecto Jedi; 05-18-2013 at 10:31 PM. |

That's the one. Bought a few things off of them not long ago and they were great, so I'm eyeing some of the other wares they have.

Unfortunately their prices for Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie are out of my range ($51.35, $41.08, and $49.30, respectively).

As an aside, where the f*ck does eBay get its "Detail item info" boxes?

This game must be deeper than I thought! "with multiple game-pads for gaming input, ensures an enhanced gaming experience." Man, statements like that really put me in the mood for multi-player!

Played it on the Game Boy as a kid. Could barely beat Spider-man's 1st stage. Funny thing is the graphics, aside from color, are almost identical. Also what's up with a Spider-man game where you can't jump AND web-sling at the same time. You have to be flat footed to even attempt to swing from a web line.

But it is difficult. Just unforgivably, unabashedly, unbelievably difficult. And not like so many other games due to cheap mechanics or broken controls -- fiendishly, devilishly difficult. With vehicle stages. And leather. And a 16-bit metal soundtrack. Love it. Can't. Wait. Last edited by Ecto Jedi; 05-20-2013 at 09:06 AM. |

I've only played Spider-man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge on Genesis. I can't give it much credit, but I think it was actually a little better than I expected (considering how low my expectations were). The Spider-man controls were pretty weird (not as good as Sega's own Spidey game from the early 90s) but his stages were generally more fun than the X-Men stuff. Storm's swimming stages truly are an awful concept and poorly executed. Playing as Wolverine isn't too bad, but it's certainly not as fun as it should be either. I remember the Cyclops & Gambit stages being very difficult as well.
