TMNT: Out of the Shadows - first anniversary

One year ago today TMNT: Out of the Shadows was released in the US.

I personally loved the movie, and am sad that these characters may never be seen again in any way (a third movie, comics, toys etc.).

I thought it would be nice to make a thread about the first anniversary, I know a lot of members here did not like the movie (or the 2014 movie) but I'm also sure I'm not the only one that does enjoy it.

Threezero should release the four Turtles plus Bebop and Rocksteady 1/6 scale figures this year.

Prime 1 Studio has just recently released Bebop and Rocksteady statues with the four Turtles following later in the year.

After that, who knows, but I wouldn't mind new stories or merchandise based on these Turtles.

And virtually nobody talking about it for months, has the public consciousness forgotten about this awful movie yet?

I'm still trying to forget these movies exist. They were horrible. 'Nuff said.

Also, in the spirit of Andrew NDB:

Thankfully this storyline won't continue and hopefully they'll learn from their mistakes when they eventually reboot.

I thought it was fine, it fixed a few things the first one did wrong though this one was clearly aimed at a younger audience. I can't say I disliked it, it's fine. I wish we could've had a third movie just to see what they did.

Are you talking about just this forum? It has been up for discussion all the time here...

This section of the forum has basically been dead.

The stories were not great, but sad that the actors won't get to be them anymore. Esp with Pete having his vocal acting used only once. (I could see him voicing an older animated series Leo someday.) If nothing else, I will miss this Leo. (Three years ago I would not image I'd ever be saying it about these films, but never mind, love him here too; if not everything else going on around him.)

Although, with no third film, I would still pay money for a DVD/Blu-ray packed full of both 2014 and 2016 outtakes, goofiness and whatnot from the Turtles' actors with the Turtles rendered into it. Watching the Turtles genuinely messing up their own lines would be superior to any plot line those writers could ever come up with.

Stil kind of wish there would be a third... with the stipulation that GOOD writers are brought in, keep Bay & Co. OUT, ditch FOX, and fix Casey. (Also, stop trying too hard to be the past and just be good. Sans unnecessarily screwing up included lore elements.) Maybe the Turtle designs aren't up to the preferences of plenty, but they're the least of the issues...

And they're hardly the only un-pretty design if you consider all designs from all media ever, and at that rate not actually the worst to ever be. Case in point... 1993? Only cute in the samurai gear. At least 2016 Leo accomplishes it just with better lighting and a grin.

If they even dared try a third someday... prob safest to just make one unconnected to these last two. Just claim they are older now, in their 20s or 30s, and come up with a new story. It might be safer territory for these people.

Is it so wrong to just want a good film...that just happens to star the Turtles? Stop trying to rewrite the past if you can't handle it.

Last hint of any possible date I saw about it not long ago suggested August.

Dean Israelite, the director of Power Rangers, blamed his film's box-office performance on the film's PG-13 rating. He believes that if it had been given a PG rating, then it would've done better.

http://screenrant.com/power-rangers-rating-success/

I think after parents took their children to see 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, they thought it had too much adult humor and sexual references that they didn't want to see Out of the Shadows. Maybe those films and Power Rangers should've been rated PG and had a "Big Hero 6" type feel to it.

Or maybe OOTS was a bad movie that was a sequel to another bad movie and no one wanted to see it?

Your right. But OOTS was a better movie than the first. It was not hard to top the first film. But the 2nd film was still bad lol.

Yeah, this isn't exactly rocket science. Rotten Tomatoes implies a mostly negative response from both critics and the audience, even before you check what the "positive" reviews have to say.

Yes, it would, but that's not what ratings exist for (even if a lot of ratings are just a joke).

Yeah, it's still not a good film.

So is Platinum Dunes out of the TMNT movie making business now? I know they said there wouldn't be a third movie...but I don't want them involved in anything TMNT related ever again.

I don't think Paramount are ever going to trust them to make another one, they're probably just going to go back to making terrible horror movies and terrible remakes of horror movies. If the first one had mediocre box office returns and the second one straight up failed, it's better to let the studio keep doing what they're best at.

Well the first one did more than they were expecting, but their issue was that they made a terrible first movie and no one decided to show up for the sequel. I agree, they should let Platinum Dunes stick to their terrible horror genre films, but my worry is if there's some licensing situation that keeps TMNT within PD? Possibly not ... but I still would hate to see that.

That's quite a different story, I don't think that information is public. If I had to guess, I'd say no, Paramount probably just handed the project off to a studio they trusted. I seriously don't think Platinum Dunes has much of a say on TMNT.

In case they do have some agreement with Paramount, it'll probably expire in a few years and the license is up for grabs. If not, there's probably some workaround and I don't think there's anything preventing them from putting new writers and directors on it, doesn't have to be made by the same people just because their logo is slapped on the movie.
