I certainly don't remember this type of language in superhero movies when I was a kid. Especially from a Marvel movie aimed at the younger crowd like Spiderman.
You're a cuck.

Has any other Marvel movie ever dropped the F-bomb? I admit to not remembering as it's been years since I've rewatched some of them, so I don't think so.

The closest thing I could think of is X-men: First Class where Wolverine told young Xavier and Magneto to, "Go f*ck yourself" and that's not even part of the mainline Marvel universe and made by Fox. I also didn't expect to see "porn" name dropped in a Spiderman movie, especially by an underage teenager.

Go rewatch Civil War and literally the first words Spiderman spoke when he saw giant Ant-Man were "HOLY S**T!!".

It's the norm nowadays in entertainment, even for kids. Shocking? Hardly.

Which isn't the same thing as the F-bomb. I know they've said things like, "bastard" or "asshole" before.

Never, and they never will (Disney). But even at a PG-13 level, they can. They're allowed one non-sexual use of the F word per PG-13 movie, per MPAA.

It was censored anyways. Why are we even talking about this?

Sounds like a mess to me.

Actually, given the underworld ties of these villains I am smelling a possible Kingpin or Silvermane connection. I could see them all working for one of them. Including Stromm.

Seeing Peter Park filming with a phone and texting isn't like the Peter of my day who carried a camera strapped around his neck and took notes with a pencil and paper.

Actually it's exactly like that. Peter is a journalist in comic canon and this is just a more modern version of him carrying a camera around. The only difference is that he is not getting paid for it. YET.

If anything, THIS is what took me out of the movie. Neither Peter nor Aunt May are the type to swear, and May ESPECIALLY should not be. This is Aunt MAY fer crissakes! The loving and nurturing MORAL COMPASS who raised Peter with strong values?!! Yeah, just NO.

I'm a loving and nurturing father raising my children with strong values.

Doesn't mean that type of person doesn't occasionally swear like a sailor with Tourette's Syndrome.

Yeah, I'm calling a flag on the play that it's out of character for a born and bred New Yorker to not drop an F-bomb every now and again, and that they lose their status as a moral compass when they do so.

If anything, I think this would highlight just how taken aback she is by the situation.

Exactly. Most everyone I know curses, even my grandparents. It's just lazy writing to have a pure-of-heart character never do anything "wrong". I know wonderful people who swear a lot and absolute scum who don't.

But yeah, she just found out her nephew was Spider-Man. Be real. Also, it got one of the biggest laughs of the night in my theater.

I remember in Iron Man 2, someone told Tony "**** you Tony Stark!".

It's weird that everyone expects Aunt May to be like this:

Yeah, but it was bleeped.

That's the difference between Disney and Fox.

I mean, can you imagine Elsa zapping people with her ice powers and snarling, "F*** you, peasants, WINTER IS COMING!!!"

... Because I can, and it cracks me up.

There's a couple "f*ck"s throughout the X-Men movies. (The PG-13 ones of course. Obviously Logan and Deadpool used a lot more.) I specifically remember the ones in Apocalypse and The Wolverine.

I was surprised by the language/slightly more raunchy humor in Homecoming, in a good way. Unlike GOTG Vol. 2, where I felt some of the crude stuff felt a little forced, in this movie it made things feel more realistic to actual high school. Having younger actors also helps with that of course.

To be fair Aunt May is now a young hot 52 year old, she isn't a 70 year old woman. 50 is the new 40, of course she's going to react differently than the Aunt May's in the past.

This is the new age of 2017. Spiderman is filming with an iphone of all things instead of a portable camera, Aunt May is young and hip, and Michael Keaton has a black wife and daughter. Spiderman's two love interests in the movie were black, and Flash was also dark skinned. You can tell everything about this movie was made in the modern year of 2017...not 1962 or even the early 2000's like the other Spiderman movies.

Times have changed.

I think what's changed is how we expect women that age to act/dress.
Let's not forget, that Marisa Tomei now is older than Rue Rue McClanahan was when she started playing Blanche on the Golden Girls.

Yeah but May is from a generation (canonically) where that is considered crude and inappropriate in the extreme. Her generation is the one that would be shocked by even the hint of impropriety in language or media content- a "June Cleaver" type, if you will. In the comics she has NEVER dropped so much as a "sh**" or a "SoB" or an f bomb, because she simply WOULDN'T. She's like my grandmother that way. (I can count on ONE hand the number of times she has dropped ANY foul language during my entire life. And this is a crazy lady who took a sledgehammer to a rabid skunk....) Aunt May is cut from the same cloth- prim and proper.

Might not be out of character for MOST New Yorkers, but yes it is VERY out of character for her. May goes back to the clean-cut, "tv family" image of the 50's and 60's in her speech and behavior- in fact in the comics she has even called Peter out on HIS occasional use of "foul language"! So yes, in this case it very much goes against her character's moral code.

Not lazy wrting. There ARE people who do not curse. My grandmother is one of them. I've heard her do it only TWICE in my life- and both times she was raging mad (at my uncle) and the sheer shock of even hearing her say something like that made the rest of us leave the room in a hurry because we understood that she was PISSED. Aunt May is even more reserved in character. Always has been.

You are not wrong there. May would have grown up in a time where women in general were not supposed to even know such words much less use them. Now women use that sort of language all the time and no one bats an eye. But it's still jarring when it comes from a character you KNOW would never talk like that!

You mean to one that stays true to the character? Then yeah, but only because that is how she was/is written. The original trilogy was far more comic accurate where she is concerned, and that was only a decade and a half ago. I dislike the "new updated" version and I particularly dislike the actress playing her. Couldn't stand her in My Cousin Vinny either. It's all wrong for who this character is.
