Didn't watch the show regularly, but I did pop over to check this out. It's very odd to wrap things up with what is basically an Elseworlds story that takes a rather depressing turn, but I respect them for hitting the darker comic vibe that TMNT tends to have when seperated from the show's standard super hero formula.

Most TMNT universes seem to have depressing or sci-fi futures.

Mirage of course has the world being flooded while part of it remains in tact and futuristic, and all the Turtles go their seperate ways. Archie had the polar ice caps melt and sea levels rise in a similar fashion.

4kids had Fast Forward which showed all aliens living on Earth. Nick now has this bleak ending with a Mad Maxx future. Even the original cartoon had the Red sky era, lol.

So far every animated series has had a conclusion then extra season(s)

OT could be said to wrap with Shredder Triumphant then had the red sky seasons
2K3 wrapped with the demon Shredder arc then had FF and BTTS
2K12 wrapped with Super Shredder then had Tales

Of all the possible futures I definitely think the 2K3 got the best deal!

I think Turtle Trek is a better ending than Shredder Triumphant since it comes right before the Dregg era and doesn't leave the villains still on the run but the season 7 finale works too, especially for those who don't like the Red Sky seasons.

Shredder Triumphant is good, but it does kind of end on an ominous note with Splinter assuring his students that just because they lack the Techodrome, Shredder and Krang are not to be underestimated.

I prefer the "Big" trilogy as the end...especially since CBBC in the UK never aired anything past season three and you had to have satellite to watch the remainder of the series at the time.

Yeah, I realize Shredder Triumphant isn't perfect (to be fair even Turtles Forever ended with a "Shredder won't be gone for long" moment). It was more just an observation that all three series had a sort of end then a retool for their final seasons. Just thought it was an interesting pattern.

Well this was freakin' awesome.

Was this based on any existing TMNT comic? Because I was very impressed by it all. Or is it just Nick's love-letter to Mad Max?

I think it might have been a bit of both.

The Palladium RPG had a couple of expansion books about a post Humanity Wasteland. Roadhogs, and after the bomb, are the two I can think of off the top of my head.

But that was definitely a Road Warrior/Fury Road homage.

Wow, deep cut.

Does the mutagen bomb show up at the end of any of the other episodes? Or do we first hear about it in the finale?

And a little bit of Beyond Thunderdome.

Donnie in a robot body reminded me of the Image comics where Donnie fuses with a cyborg or something. He also resembled Chappie somewhat.

Donnie's been a cyborg in both Image and IDW. He was even in Metalhead in IDW.

I'm actually surprised at just how poignant this finale was! Possibly the best ending to any TMNT Series.

I especially loved how many of the ancillary character arcs and plotlines were intentionally left unresolved.

After all the Turtles' grand-scale efforts and adventures, the show, very cleverly, emphasised that they were still teenagers - outcast mutants living in the sewers, a small part of something much larger with no real control over external factors that created them (and so end them), and I loved how spontaneously the world just...ends.

We're not even given info on who dropped the bomb! It's all incredibly mysterious - but it makes sense within the context of the narrative because we went through 5 seasons dealing with this kind of stuff.

Half the cast is dead and the Turtles themselves are lesser versions of what they were thanks to the effects of the bomb. This is all accentuated by their eventual reunion which gave a sense of profound melancholy and hope at the same time.

It's the 'Same As It Never Was' of the 2012 Series. Very happy with how the show concluded! Really going to miss this one. :'(

Cool, I haven't started the IDW comics yet.

Not technically true.

A cyborg is defined as a person whose physical abilities are extended beyond normal limitations by mechanical/robotic elements built into the body.

In Image this was the case, as he had all those robotic augmentations that he got from that one cyborg.

But in IDW only his consciousness was transferred to the Metalhead body. Not sure if that counts as being a cyborg or not...
But then you have the artificial shell Harold and Fugitoid gave him. It's hard to say if that counts towards him being a cyborg too...

Hmm

The shell is artificial, not robotic, so he's not a cyborg. You wouldn't call a person with a prosthetic leg a cyborg.

Shame we haven't found a way to harness the power of the sun over the years

Somebody asked about a TMNT art book.

I asked Ciro on IG about possibly getting a book with all the pre-production art and he says he's hoping to start work on it soon. So there's that to look forward to.
