That was cool! Now I'm starting to want the option of dynamic digital comic for IDW's TMNT!

Batman '66 did it back in 2013!

I found it enjoyable. Basically, just one big chase. Sillier than your average Fred Wolf episode, clearly making use of the existing Funko TMNT figures and playing off the old Party Wagon accessories especially. It reminded me of an average issue of the Fleetway UK Hero Turtles.

And now I have a strange craving for Ninja Turtles breakfast cereal... even the old "ninja nets," which I think got a conscious reference in this issue.

Read it, it's cute but it's really nothing special. The most interesting aspect is that it made me wonder how a continuation of the FW show would be written.

See, it's basically an FW episode except it constantly makes fun of the FW show in the dialogue. It points out how the Technodrome was always stuck somewhere, points out how Krang's plan rarely ever have a real purpose and Bebop actually calls Shredder and Krang "mom and dad".

Between this, Turtles Forever and Trans-Dimensional, is it just too tempting for writers to poke holes in the FW cartoon when given the chance?

I had a good laugh with the Mom and Dad line from Bebop xD. Just like it was in the cartoon...

The original cartoon itself made fun of itself all the time. There's one episode where Raphael says, "Next time let's hope the writers come up with some better story plots." etc.

I don't think what these later writers/iterations making fun of it is anything new, the show itself knew it was a funny self-parody.

Here's my full summary and review of TMNT Funko Universe #1 at TMNT Entity.

My shop had a hard time ordering this one for some reason. They couldn't find it in their catalog. I'm betting they kept looking under "Funko" instead of "TMNT Funko" even though I told them a hundred times what it was called. But whatever, I still managed to get it.

And I'm glad I did. It was basically just an episode of the old cartoon but with Funko figure designs. Goellner captured the voices of the characters really well, though yeah, he did resort to "lol the 80s cartoonw as so weird" jokes a bit much. But I appreciated the sincerity of everything else, right down to Bebop and Rocksteady saying "Toitles". I love it when writers remember that.

Had my comic shop order me one, so I finally got to read it.
That was a surprisingly good issue! The humor was spot on and I actually laughed out loud a couple of times. The whole thing felt like an episode of the OT. I'm glad IDW decided to make this issue.

Tonally, this was totally on point. You can tell Caleb's a genuine fan of the OT, not a casual making passive references. & the artist even did a pretty faithful imagining of their lair. As others have said, it could practically pass for an episode of the OT.

Way better than it had any right to be, I actually enjoyed it for what it is.
