Well I've been away for a long while working and spending time with family. I wanted to show some people stuff I have been working on as a way to honor my mother

After going to Disney with my wife and purchasing a customer built toy saber I wanted to get a "real" custom saber but after ordering it I had and idea. I thought it would be cool to incorporate her cancer ribbon colors into the saber. After joining serveral Facebook saber groups met so great people. Oh of those people was a gentleman who had gone through someone in his family dieing and then creating a saber for them. He had suggested having a phrase etched into the saber something that connected to my mother.

Before she passed she posted a poem
Death Is Nothing At All By Henry Scott-Holland
"Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just round the corner.

All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!"

I then had the saber custom etched by a fantastic Craftsman in aurebesh (or galactic basic) with the phrase "Death is nothing at all. It does not count. All is well."
As well as having a custom. Shroud made with angle wings and a halo. I then had it powder coated. And it's currently away getting ready to have it installed.

With the announcement of Star Wars land I decided that would be the perfect place to honor her with this saber. But I wanted to be in Character.

The saber belongs to a sith who lost someone near to him who then realizes he must repent against the sith ways and becomes a grey force user who balances himself in the force. I wanted and coplay to go with this idea. I found an amazing commissioner who does Japanese inspired Jedi/sith robes and commissioned an outfit for this character.

Thought since I have post In a while some might be interested.

That's very cool and sweet, Sam. Great way to honor her memory.

And thanks to both you and her for sharing that poem, I must hang onto it. (Edit: Actually, seeing that it exists as a book, I may have to give that to my mom on the 2nd anniversary of the loss of my dad.)

So sorry for your loss, Sam, but that is an awesome way to honor her memory. My grandfather passed away from pancreatic cancer last year and it was very hard for me to deal with. He was sick for five years and though he never had any pain, he still suffered and was tired. He hated living that way and I know he was ready to go even though it sucks to lose him as he was my only living grandfather I had left. Now I just have one grandmother in my family and I always want to make sure to spend as much time with her as possible.

Just know that I know how you feel and what you're going through. Best wishes.

Everytime I read or hear it I get very emotional. It's a great poem.

It really sucks cancer is just guh I don't even know how to express how mad cancer makes me. After my mom passed we've been trying to spend as much time with my father and sister and her family.

Thank you both for your responses

You're welcome, Sam. I also had a classmate who died of leukemia before we graduated high school and that was also rough for me. Cancer is evil and I really wish a cure could be found and shared with the world.
