Does Hokum Hare count as a TMNT character?
As we all know, Hokum Hare came from a "Fairy Tale" dimension, as he was based on an easter rabbit. In that same episode we had Jack and the Giant from the beanstalk and other fairy tale creatures. Had Hokum not stuck around for "Once upon a time machine" he would just be a one-off fairy tale character.
So does he count as a TMNT character? Or is he just a fairy tale creature? |

I see him as a tmnt character, but in the same way that I would see Merlin from the European vacation as a tmnt character. They count because they appeared in a tmnt incarnation, but are not ideas exclusive to tmnt like the turtles, splinter, shredder etc.
I don't dislike hokum, but I think Usagi was much better done in his 2 episodes and if Hokum was to be his own character, then I would've been interested in seeing him done as a parody of Bugs Bunny or something like that. Last edited by FredWolfLeonardo; 06-23-2017 at 01:59 PM. |

That's my logic.
Which means Batman, Savage Dragon, & a host of others are technically TMNT characters.

Thor is a Marvel character, in addition to being a Norse god, no?

Technically yes but ONLY that "version" of Thor. Just as Aries is both a Marvel and DC character in additiin to being a Greek god. They are just different incarnations of him, each unique to the universe they are used in. Aries in DC is typically a villain. Marvel's version is actually an Avenger! A hard-a**ed and violent hero but one of the "good guys" nonetheless. Thus Usagi is "technically" a TMNT character by virtue of appearing with rhem but is also his own thing. So Hokum certainly qualifies as well since he has never appeared elsewhere.

Yes; of course he is. He may have origin as the hare of tortise in the hare, but that dies not nake him not a TMNT one. I mean are Ares and Circe not Wonder Woman villains or to a greater extent not DC characters?
I bet a large percentage of people think of Usagi as a TMNT character. I also bet like myself despite learning that Usagi was the lead character of his own comic universe, struggle to see him as something other than an ally of the Turtles.

I'm surprised Santa doesn't exist for real in any TMNT universe, he's usually real in a lot of kids properties like Power Rangers, Pokemon and whatnot

Only twice, actually, and his second was only a cameo:
https://www.serebii.net/anime/characters/santa.shtml He hasn't appeared since the Johto era more than 17 years ago back in 2001. And go figure, this is my 30,000th post on the drome and it's about Santa Claus appearing in Pokemon of all things. |

Not more than John H. Watson, Sherlock Holmes and James Moriaty, or Arthur, Guinevere and Merlin.

I am curious as which point some random one-off character introduced in the course of a franchise becomes a new intellectual property. When Laird sold to Nickelodeon, we wondered which characters were considered true TMNT characters and which characters might not necessarily belong to the franchise.
Take the original "Pigeon Peter" who was just a generic pigeon from a random episode of the Fred Wolf cartoon, but in the last couple of years, he's become so well established as his own mutant that it wouldn't surprise if he got his own action figure eventually. Hokum Hare might have been a generic man-bunny like dozens of other characters, but does he become copyright-protected if IDW or Nick re-invents him?

Hokum Hare was based on the the hare form the fairytale "The turtle and the hare", which he was in the fairytale reality. It was when he came to Earth he acted like the Easter Bunny.

No, it's the other one. The 'evil' one that is usually one of Mr. Burns' lawyers. He has glasses and blue hair, and I'm not sure if he was ever given a name.
