It's a far-fetched dream, my friend. First & foremost, Peter does not wish to associate himself with the turtles at all anymore given the exception of business affairs. He's shown us in varrying degrees that he acts more towards the direction of what he feels the franchise 'needs' rather then what the fans want. Also, if the subject beared the same level of importance to him as it does us, he would've pushed for it himself. On another note, yet not lighter one, Viacom is a big robotic suit and tie cooporation & I highly doubt they value the opinion of a demographic they have no interest in conditioning themselves to. I have no intentions of souring your mood but the facts are grim these days. However, I would surely sign a petition to bring these comics foward & although they generally aren't successful in carrying out the objective I'm sure many folks here at the technodrome would also put their gripes aside & sign it aswell.

He only reserved rights related to the Mirage universe, and only for comics, so both those are out from peter or mirage. And Nick wouldn't do it directly, you'd have to get someone to lisence it.

So, Tales Vol2 is coming to an end with issue 70. But, from what I gather, this was a decision taken long before anyone knew about the Viacom buyout.

Does anyone know (rather than just suspect) why Mirage decided to cancel the run?

Because it was, and has been for a long time, losing money would be my first guess.

The comics have been a vanity project for Peter for a long time. They only existed because Pete wanted them to. Obviously that interest has been fading for quite some time, so as soon as he decided he didn't care anymore...thats all she wrote.

That really just applied to Vol. 4. Tales was simply an issue of how long Peter was willing to pay for it.

So Pete was keeping the comics division going even without it making a profit? I can think of few companies that would ever do that.

I guess he could always justify it while ever the TMNT licenses (videgames, films, cartoon) were bringing in lots of cash. Was there any indication these things weren't making as much as they used to do?

It would be cool if TMNT had a triple digit milestone number, they deserve it IMO.

There was a point where sales were sliding across the board. The decline of support for the toys and the animated series were the big hitters.

If Mirage had never bothered with making different volumes, the last issue of Mirage TMNT (Vol. 4, #30) would actually be TMNT #105.

Interestingly, #25 of Volume 4 would have been TMNT #100. For all intents and purposes, it can still be considered the 100th Mirage TMNT (the core series, not spinoffs like Tales, etc.) issue. I think Laird should have made a bigger deal about that.

Just for fun, if you want to factor Vol. 3 into things, Vol. 4 #2 would have been #100 and right now we would be all way up to #128 (that being TMNT Vol. 4, #30).

Here be a link to his blog a few months ago. Scroll down to find it. Looks like it was to be/will be called Paleo: Loner. There's more Paleo art kicking around his blog than that, and looks like he done quite a few pages. Looks great if ya ask me!

No idea! Wonder if Lawson even knows himself?

Perhaps a question in the comments page on his blog may give an answer...
