It's not a dealbreaker for me though. It just kinda ticks me off how expensive LEGO sets are and yet they are really bad at producing new parts to solve problems like this.
Well, if you have any of the old 2003 Mega Bloks TMNT, their weapons were actually newly molded weapons for them that from the Leo and Mike I still have, do fit in LEGO hands okay.

Just wait for Amazon and some other retailers to start stocking these sets on a regular basis. You will easily be able to score all of them (minus the Baxter limited edition set) for at least 15-20% off MSRP. If you have to have them now you likely won't get a deal though.

Oh, Baxter is limited edition?

I may put in an order for that and the lair set then and get the others later.

I'd like some proof of Baxter being limited edition. I don't recall that being mentioned at all

It said Hard to Find on the Lego website... Which doesn't technically mean that its Limited Edition, just that it will only be sold in Lego Stores and by one participating Retailer, which here is Toys R Us.

It was mentioned back in the first post:

Limited Edition isn't exactly a proper term to use, but considering its essentially a retail exclusive it sort of comes out that way in the wash

LEGO used to call the store exclusive sets "Limited Edition" and now they are pegged "Hard to Find" but they are both far from the truth. They are typically easily available at the retail locations for the specific chain (ie - Target, TRU, Walmart) and at LEGO stores as well as online at both the chain and LEGO shop @ home.

These sets are usually available for at least 1 year so you have plenty of time to get them. They will be part of sales during the year for less than MSRP so you just have to be patient and keep an eye out for them.

"Hard to find" is LEGO marketing terminology. It just means it is a retailer exclusive. It won't go out of print earlier than the other TMNT sets, but it is possible that they will go up in value more over time because they probably make a lot fewer of them.

So what is the general consensus on these sets?

Seem a bit overpriced, especially compared to the 2003 Mega Blok TMNT sets.

They are priced no different than other Lego sets. Mega Bloks are basically Lego knockoffs, so of course they're priced lower. That's the only reason anyone buys them instead of Legos.

I have the kraang set. I think its worth its price. The only thing i dont like is mikeys nunchucks. I took two lightsaber hilts and put the chains on it.

I have to disagree with some of the above comments. Most LEGO sets are expensive -- but the TMNT sets seem very pricey for the number of bricks or what is contained int he set. The Krang set for example, is around $20 at my local TRU and its just a couple of rods and figures.

I understand Mega Bloks are lower quality, but I just don't see the value in these sets. I'll wait for clearance or a sale.

Thanks for the input, as usual.

Your beef is with TRU, not the sets in general. They are pricing them above the MSRP. The Kraang set is supposed to be $13, and that's what other retailers have it for. Just wait for them to show up at your local Walmart or Target.
