50th anniversary of the first manned Moon landing
This week is the 50th anniversary of the first manned Moon landing, which occurred in July 1969
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-48911106 In September this year, it's 60 years since unmanned spaceprobe Luna 2 of the Soviet Union landed on Moon, and became the first Humanmade object to land on another astronomical object than Earth http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/d...00/3054080.stm Last edited by Original TMNT Cartoon Fan; 07-16-2019 at 03:18 PM. |

Ah yes, who could forget when Wallace and Gromit made history on that fateful day, until then we could only speculate on wheter or not the moon consisted of cheese.
Nah, in all seriousness, a great leap for mankind indeed. A shame further manned missions to other bodies in the solar systems are too dangerous. Just regular manned missions to earth's orbit takes their toll on people, the Apollo guys are real heroes for being able to get to the moon and back intact. |

Did we really land on the moon? Why was that flag moving?
Looks like a hoax video cooked up in some dingy studio tbh. |

This is something I actually find sad. 50 years later and our biggest achievement is the internet. Which of course is awesome but it shows how slow technology actually moves imo. I’m talking about real meaningful technology.
Sure there are plenty of other advancements that are cool and helpful but some depend on the internet and ones that don’t are still not exactly life changing. They’re just more efficient and convenient. Except for modern medicine and the internet things are not really that super high tech. Smaller scale technology like better entertainment and better computers are more so luxuries yet still took some to get where they are. I wish aliens (if they can get here or have been here) would reveal themselves and share their technology. I do not really believe the government has reverse-engineered supposed ufos to invent new machines. It’s plausible but I think our technology has had a pretty consistent flow on its own. I do not see any mysterious leap like I’ve heard some suggest.

Bill Gates
A lot of topics in science and technology needs its own Bill Gates, not only home computers, mobile telephones and the Internet.

But the computer in your pocket is far more powerful than all the computers that put men on the moon. |

But ya in general our daily technology is just better made. I know that how you use things depends on how they make a difference but I think people understand what I meant. There’s been no greater tangible advancement like the internet.

All this Moon landing hype reminded me of ex-Technodrome member Jarrah White, who's developed quite a reputation in the conspiracy world thanks to his beliefs on the 'staged' landing
Recently, he became an astrophysicist (though it's just a minor degree) |

That's no excuse. Only adventurous people apply to become astronauts. Or should we stop educating pilots, train drivers, ship captains, policemen-policewomen or firefighters too, just because it's too dangerous?

The problem with sending people to Mars is that it takes three years to get there. Spending a few months in orbit will cause signifigant loss in muscle mass and often takes a toll on mental health, imagine what happens after three years. Then when you finally get to Mars, you're gonna have to start making a shelter ASAP or else you'll be bombarded with radiation. When that's done, you need to grow food with limited resources or else you'll starve. And if you actually plan on going back to Earth, that's another three year long journey in 0G. You are more likely to survive being stabbed by a drug dealer or going into a burning building than going on a mission like this. |
