So much for Metalinka. It looks like the silicon soul bit means Metalheads must be destroyed.
It does not say anything about Splinter or Karai in #98 or #99. Not even the Dragon father of the Pantheon. We all assume that the devastation generically describes them. Aside from Splinter's death, what other devastation could there be? I am sure that you can come up with a few.

Why does everyone assume Splinter's going to die, I think he probably end up get trapped somewhere and confront the Rat king similar to Mirage City at War and 2012 Darkest Plight.

It's interesting to see that the Turtles will deal with Bishop before taking on Karai, just like they handled Krang before Shredder in the first 50 issues, only this time the circumstances seem a lot more dire and urgent. |

My assumption has always come from the fact that he is Shredder’s guide in shredder in hell.

He should blow up if only to slim down the villain roster after issue 100. I think we know a bit of a clean slate is coming so I think some deaths are expecting. Even if it’s a robot.

Up until a month ago, I believed this strongly as well. While that very well may happen still, in celebration, I guess you could say, of the upcoming #100 I've been rereading the entire series up to this point with me paying much more attention to detail than before. In the Shredder Villain Micro (where the afterlife concepts come from) the Kid mentions to Shredder that time does not pass in a straight line in the afterlife (which makes sense since Shredder fights Japanese warriors from different time periods and even a Confederate soldier in that Micro... when Shredder himself died in the 1600s). So, after reading that, I realized that, while it's possible Splinter will die during this arc, its seemingly equally as possible that Splinter being present in Shredder in Hell means that he dies eventually (obviously) but not necessarily at this point in the story. We will just have to wait and see.

Updated with currently released covers. No cover A for #99 but we already know from SDCC that it depicts Splinter behind bars.

I really hope Splinter doesn't die. I remember thinking he would in issue 50 as well, look how that turned out. But I feel like he has died in almost all the incarnations of the Turtles (TMNT 2k3,Nick TMNT, Movie, Mirage, even Archie)...
So, TMNT Urban Legends is expected to wrap up in June of next year? Not bad!Crazy how fast 2 years pass!

Here's a low res, cropped and color corrected shot of the #99 cover as seen at SDCC:
Spoiler:
This issue seems very Splinter-oriented. No wonder it's double sized, if it's meant to be the showdown with Bishop and Metalhead as well. |
