yeah, cubed is always trashing me for being old and out dated.

everytime I see that thread, my natural instinct is to join in and offer advice, then I see who started it, and say, eh, screw it .

It ended disappointingly with Beholder Dad just being like "'kay, sweetie" and disintegrating the Mindflayer. Which is why Tami only decided to call for his help in real emergencies.

And what do we get for trudging through a sewer, going up against Gazers, a bunch of goblins, a dark dwarf and a bandit, the slime they were trying to block out, and a mindflayer and his half-orc, all in order to save one guy? A run-down manor haunted by its previous owner. Which my halfling had to pay out of her pocket because she was absolutely loaded. Thanks Volo.

It's interesting trying to keep Tami out of Mary Sue territory, but I think she is to some degree.
Omg my group just finished Dragon Heist a few weeks ago and we started Dungeon of the Mad Mage last week, it's pretty crazy so far.

We ended Dragon Heist as the proud owners of a bar in Trollskull Alley and significantly richer than when we'd started.

I picked up a D&D Starter Set at Target the other day since it was only $20.

I have no idea what to do next, though, because I played D&D all of three times, no later than 1995.

My wife and I would like to give it a try one day, which is why I picked it up, but I really feel a bit overwhelmed by it. Any tips are appreciated. Probably won't mess with it anytime soon, but hopefully one day.

Met with one off the writers of the Michael Bay TMNT films today (Josh Appelbaum) at work. Seemed like a good guy so I just bit my tongue

Best tip is to have fun. The 5th edition rules are super light and easy to learn, and if you forget something just make something up on the fly.

The Starter set adventure is great for both first time players and dungeon masters.

Fair enough. But for example, it's cool that the kit comes with some pre-loaded characters; can these be changed or customized and still work with the provided scenario? For example, my wife more or less just wants to be Xena.

I can't stress enough, I'm beyond a neophyte at this. And the included booklets are soooo looooong.

Also, game boards and kits. Little figurines. I'm aware that's a whole other huge thing. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Most likely, it's only ever gonna be she and I playing.

Thanks.

I have the same kit, but haven't really had the chance to be a DM myself. I've mostly just played in other people's games.

Spoiler:
My ultimate DM desire is to make a homebrew campaign, wherin noobies within the Xanathar Guild are tasked with the oh-so-dangerous task...of replacing Xanathar's dead fish before he notices.

yeah, the pre-made characters can be tweaked and customize as you wish. The Adventure is very open to any player characters, and if you're doing a solo adventure with you wife you can beef up her character with higher ability scores, free feat(s) or start with some magic swag so the character can fight the monsters single-handedly or add some adventuring npcs as hirelings.

You don't really need miniatures and battle maps, at least not until you're onto the game. Minis are expensive and all the theater-of-the-mind works great in 5e

I just feel like I don't even know where to begin, although I guess taking an honest crack at the guidebook should be Step 1.

I appreciate the input, thanks. Who knows when we'll get to it, but it was so cheap I figured I'd never have a better chance, and now we can jump in whenever. One day, hopefully.

Have you been listening in on my games remotely? I just started a new side-trek adventure that is part Phantom (the 90's movie) and part Indie Jones Crystal Skulls. In the underdark. In the middle of a war between genocidal dark elves and a tribe of "endangered" dino-people.

I will second most of this. I haven't checked out 5th ed since the beta test packets, but it seemed very easy to get into, and character creation was much simpler than in the version I use- but then, I am a veteran player and D&M, so learning the new system was just a matter of adjusting to the new ruleset.

If you have any questions, you can always pm me for advice or suggestions! I have oodles of books and modules on hand for answers to just about anything you need! (And I run a weekly game myself, so I can help with hows and the dos and do nots of running the game. My first suggestion is to have her play a fighter, and just tweak it to fit with the skills of Xena, such as preferred weapon, acrobatic feats, and seduction.)

Thanks! At least I know a couple folks here who've been doing this for a while.

I remember seeing a rulebook for an old DC Universe-based game at my comic shop a while back. If they still have it I'll pick it up one'a these days.

Do you remember the title? There have been several superhero-based games, like Mutants and Masterminds, Spycraft, Champions, etc....

Free Speech is being severly restricted these days.

logged in to another site, and got this message.

'you where banned for
Not respecting creators of New She-Ra show'

unbelievable. considering their attack on the original fans and the original actors of the REAL show.....sigh.

20 years on that forum, and not one single problem...and they decide to do this out of the total blue. usually they give you a warning if they feel you step off too far. smh.

Nah, but it definitely wasn't one of those. It was some generic-sounding DC Super-Heroes/DC Universe kinda thing. Probably came out in the late-90s.

Hah, that's exactly what happened to me here a few months back; at least that was a Temp Ban.

That's sh*tty of them, though. I've said this before, if boards aren't gonna let people voice their opinions, they need to CLEARLY post a rule at the "door": "Only positive feedback or f*ck off." Just be transparent. Don't ambush people simply for speaking their minds.

it seems to be changing in a bad way...so that a narrative of what is and isn't acceptable seems to be forming. they'll let one user post stuff that is supposed to be in an 'adult topic only' forum (i.e. relationship stuff)....and delete about 15 posts after that. leaving the post that started the trouble still up.

sigh. even though I stand by everything I say, i must have caught a mod in a really bad mood :/.....
