I was wondering why any of the big comic book movie sites hasn't reported on it. and there's the reason why. Its not really huge news. I hate when they over hype things that turned out to be something that isn't to be hyped about. Its playing to the audience's expectations and then being let down when its not what they thought it would be.
I blame NBC's Today Show for over hyping this announcement. |

He was hyping up something that is huge for him, it's not his fault geek blog sites took advantage of that to generate clicks and create false assumptions.

Actually, for Jackman fans- particularly those who know of his theater experience- this IS big news. I for one would LOVE to go see this, since I've already seen his Broadway work on Oklahoma!. The man can sing! And dance, too. (His filmography includes Happy Feet, where he was the main character's dad, who sounded a lot like Elvis, for some reason....)

- And I'm aware, thus why I said "CURRENT Powers-That Be". But if you don't think this is also something Disney "encouraged" them to do, under the table and off the books, as a way to easier segue the R-rated Deadpool character into the lighter, fluffier MCU later on once everything is settled, well... c'mon, of course they did. They can kayfabe it all they want but it's definitely what's going on. ------------------------ Anyways. Hugh Jackman is now officially the grown-up version of the little kid who walks into a crowded room at a party, says "Everyone, I have an announcement to make!", and then loudly burps. I kinda admire the trolling job, but still... he knew full well what he was doing. He did manage to get a lot of attention for something that few people will ultimately care about, though. Guy could have a great future in the wrestling business playing the spin game like that. Carny as f*ck.

This PG-13 release is a limited release that in no way shape or form can prove the validity of your claim........ Could DeadPool be successful as a PG-13 or even more successful? Maybe, but I personally don't think it would be as successful or popular bc toning down deadpool would take away a lot of his charm

People sure are willing to believe anything they're told by big companies anymore. That's neat.
You will never see an R-Rated super-hero movie, Deadpool or otherwise, ever again, unless DC/WB decides to make people get all mad at them again. Semantics of "who owns what right this minute" and "who started talking to who behind closed doors about future products and direction" be damned. There is zero financial incentive to make "adult-oriented" super-hero movie fare when the current and most-desired target demographic is children. I'm not sure why that's a complicated idea to grasp for some people. This whole thing is only so Disney/Marvel can monitor the situation and see how best to handle the Deadpool character going forward. It's plain to see for miles. I agree with you that a watered-down Deadpool is stupid and pointless, but when your Grand Plan is to make everything into a kid's cartoon whether it fits or not... well, it actually makes perfect sense. Not to you or I, but to the ones in "the office". I mean, watering down the TMNT so they can sell them to ADHD-riddled 4-year olds is a horrible idea, too, and yet... well, here we are. It doesn't have to "make sense" in order to be Reality, it just has to make money. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, good for everybody, but I don't think I am. No more R-rated super-hero movies. Since it seems to matter so much, what do I win if/when I'm proven right?

The PG-13 "Once Upon a Deadpool" Fox movie means that Disney will make Deadpool PG-13 in the MCU! False! #1. On multiple occasions Disney and Feige have said they will "find a way" and have even thrown out ideas for how that would work. #2. It's largely for cancer, which is why Reynolds ran with it. #3. It's just a quick cash grab before the door imminently and completely closes on Fox being able to independently make Marvel stuff. #4. Ryan Reynolds wouldn't have any interest in doing a straight-up Deadpool movie in PG-13 and Disney isn't going to be very likely to want to start a search for a new Deadpool anytime soon. #5. Both R-rated Deadpool movies made around 800 million each... no one is going to want and try and screw with that by pacifying it. Disney is going to throw lots of money at Hugh Jackman and he will un-retire as Wolverine! False! #1. Hugh Jackman has retired from the part, very publicly. #2. Hugh Jackman is 50 now, too old to start fresh (again) on the character. #3. Disney has already said they would fold it all together (the X-Men into the MCU), a thing which is literally not possible without a total X-Men movie reboot. #4. The Fox-Men movies' "present day" is currently 1995 ("Dark Phoenix") and the MCU's "present day" is 2018. This is not compatible, even if Disney had any interest in retaining the Fox-Men verse... which they don't. #5. Disney's modus operandi is all about brand unity going forward past the Fox acquisition of properties... retaining even one actor playing one of the pre-existing X-Men characters (Jackman as Wolverine) would create and invite unnecessary confusion that things are retained from the old Fox movies, which there won't be.

Again, it's great that some of you are so trusting. There's another word... can't quite think of it... starts with a "G", I think... hmmmmm....
I also can't believe that everyone thinks that "Ryan Reynolds wouldn't do Deadpool unless it was Rated-R" means jack squat to the company that made a Han Solo movie starring Some Bozo Nobody Cares About And Looks Nothing Like Harrison Ford. You guys have already proven you'll go see anything they make. They can, and will "screw with" anything, because you've all proven that it works. The brand name label is what matters, not the content. If they recast the role, and make all Deadpool movies PG-13 (or even PG) going forward, you'll all bitch about it, but you'll STILL go see it, and they know that. Expect some big announcement in 2020 about "Doing what's best in order to allow audiences of all ages to experience the magic and wonder of these characters" and a casting reshuffle, along with Reynolds being cut a nice check and possibly a ceremonial "producer" credit in exchange for not publicly calling them out on screwing up Deadpool. Let's remember, once upon a time, he DID do "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", and he HAD to have known way before they stuck a camera in his face that it was all wrong. But he took the check anyway. Don't pretend Van f*cking Wilder is some kind of altruist who's only in this for the artistic integrity of the Deadpool character. It's a job. He's an actor, those chiseled abs of his ain't gonna last forever and he's gonna be thinking of his future first and foremost. If that means Disney goes to him and says, "Here's X million, tell everyone that Neutered Deadpool is awesome," well, that's life. Eastman did it on those TMNT flicks, y'all still love him for some reason. It's how these things work, man. The answer to every "But WHY would they do something stupid like ____?" is always MONEY. It's why there's not going to be any more R-Rated super-hero movies, and why we're still gonna probably see Jackman sporting claws (maybe just) one more time, even if it's just a brief cameo or something. Which is all I'd really expect; not a full blown "role" but like, maybe a scene in a Dr. Strange flick or something, they're talking about the Multiverse or whatever and you see a brief shot of Jackman as Wolverine. It's perfectly reasonable to expect that, because Hugh would get like $10 million for a single day of work and he'd be a complete idiot not to, if they asked him to. Also, remember how many times Marc Hammill "publicly retired" from playing the Joker, and he still keeps doing it once in a while and saying, "Well, I meant EXCEPT for this specific circumstance... which has nothing to do with the LAST time I said this..." It's a work, man. "I'm done with ____" means "They haven't offered me enough yet." Nothing more. All things are negotiable. Am I seriously the only cynic left? I can't be. I can't be the only person who just hears "Blah blah bullsh*t, bullsh*t, spin, lies, spin, lies, bullsh*t" whenever people wearing suits talk, right? Because FYI, that's what you're supposed to hear. But again, WHAT do I win if I'm right? Since it matters so much.
