I knew that spiked interest and caught some headlines but I'm pleasantly surprised to see how well it did. With the ramp up to #100 also going strong, it's an important time for them to put their best work out there and catch any potential new readers. Hopefully issue #100 is pretty good.

TMNT #98 sold incredible 34,373 units.
The rise of sales numbers is incredible and #100 hasn't even been out yet. Wow! |

How many of these 23k will actually like what they are reading and stick with it? Direction change completion will commence with #101. Mutant Town and Mona Lisa need to impress.

I know its physical copies, but I am not sure if its world wide or just the US. But these numbers do not include digital sales.

Most don’t stick with it which is why sales always decline after a spike. I imagine most bought the first printing of Jennika’s mutation in hope it gets really rare someday like how Harley Quinn’s first appearance in the Batman animated comics can now sell for around $700 if it’s graded.

I remember the days when my friends and I would horde our copies of Spawn #1 and like, Batman #497, thinking for sure we were sitting on gold mines.

That makes sense for the first issue centered around a new character that was hyped up. Just like the issue where she first mutated, it could be worth something later down the line if the character persists in other iterations of the franchise.

#100-#102 sold 25-30k. Looks like people sampling did not like the direction.

Sad fact that a lot of titles see dilution of numbers after big events, the drop is scary sometimes, but aren't these numbers still higher than pre-100 finale? Just glancing back to April/May numbers?

I am surprised that IDW TMNT rarely breaks into top 100 comics on the market with their sales. IDW TMNT definitely earns its cult classic status in terms of its lower sales compared to the mainstream comics. It is popular with a particular group of people for sure but it seems slow in gaining new fans. However, I think it is good to know that TMNT is a franchise that can keep afloat even with its less than stellar performance in some mediums. Yay TMNT fans! :3

It's very hard to be near the top when DC and Marvel dominate every sales month always. It's the same reason other Image or IDW or Dark Horse comics, outside the really popular ones, struggle to sell even half as much.

Do we have any sources for data of where the sales numbers are with the recent issues?

This was posted last month but they still lost a staggering amount of money last quarter of $1.28 million. At this point they're unsure if the company will ever turn a profit again. I'm curious to see this updated again by the end of the year. |
