So i'm guessing these ultimate collections are based on the origional mirage comics?
And they are a totally seperate story from the 5 issues of the IDW series?
And then the micro series are sperate again?

Sorry for the daft questions, just would be nice if i can my head around it all lol

Yeah, the Ultimate Collections are for the original Mirage series, and even then, only for the Eastman/Laird issues (they include the Mirage Microseries, though).

The TMNT Classics trades collect original Mirage issues that weren't by Eastman and Laird, grouping the stories by creator or theme.

The IDW ongoing series is collected in 4-issue trades ("Change is Constant", "Enemies Old, Enemies New", "Sins of the Fathers", etc).
The IDW Microseries are collected in trades labeled TMNT Microseries and in 4 issue batches (there are only 8 issues so far but more are coming this year).

There's also the TMNT Adventures Classics trades, but those are for the Archie series.

Admittedly, IDW's marketing strategy for their TMNT trades is a little confusing. There being so much TMNT comic material to sort and package, though, it was kind of inevitable.

Perhaps then i will just start right at the begining with the mirage comics and go from there

Guys, you have all been more than helpfull and i really appreciate it.

Now just gotta wait for my birthday and perhaps order my 1st load of comics

I just got my copy today (for some reason Comixzone.com is a month behind on their monthly issues).

Anyhow this is one of the freshest and BEST story-lines ever for the TMNT. I am going to say that Mateus Santolouco IS THE BEST TMNT artist I have ever scene, I love the way he draws April and Casey, I love the small details he gives the turtles (like pockets on their belts!, height/weight difference, details that no one has ever really given the TMNT)

Art aside this story is awesome, I love how it combines ancient Japan (my love of Akira Kuriosawa films, Sci-Fi, and the estranged importance of family.

I have friends that are into comics and were into the Turtles back in the day, those guys are dads now too and this is one comic that i will get once it's in collected form for them as presents for them to see how awesome IDW's run is...

Love the art, love the way the style is and glad to see Santolouco is moving over to the next big TMNT story arc..
